my god I ran into this problem today..I went to Barnes and Noble today and tried to purchase a book...it was a POD only....or buy it off Amazon deal...wth...I was upset but tried not to take it out only the lady it is not her fault!
I thought this was an old story that was somewhat debunked. Amazon is not going to carry exclusively Booksurge for POD.
My jaw has dropped, I'm gasping for air. I am, perhaps, a bit slow to update my information but I'm updating right now and am horrified to say that it looks like Amazon.com may become both an author's and a publisher's nightmare; and worse yet, a consumer's nightmare.
For details on the BookSurge forced takeover of Amazon.com book purchases, please see the following articles by the owner of WritersWeekly.com, Angela Hoy:

Also, try this google search:

The articles have not only click able and researchable information, but readers of these articles are encouraged to do their own googling to find out the truth about this takeover. I call it "hostile" as it is a greedy (VERY) grab by Amazon.com for a huge amount of profit (48%) with a huge DROP of quality. Who's responsible? BookSurge. "Let BookSurge print your books...or else" ...!!!????
Please read these articles and do your own research, then think carefully: very carefully, about whether or not to stay with Amazon.com for your main book purchasing source. Writers just finished a well publicized strike on the major networks recently, turning Hollywood as well as many television shows on their ear for months over a 3 cent raise. Don't think they won't band together again! I, for one, encourage them to do just that through whatever writer's organization they choose, including the Writer's Guild of America. As an author I am outraged. As a reader I am angry beyond words. And as a consumer? I'm updating my library card.
In my own words: This time the Great Depression will be about the greed of the few vs. the good of the many. The People beware!
