2986314 I'm reading No Easy Answers: The Truth About Death at Columbine by Brooks Brown and Rob Merritt

message 72: by Lorifog (new)

1864510 I just finished Through the window by Diane Fanning and it was very good. What a sociopath Tommy Lynn Sells was1

I'm going to check out Suffer the Little Children.

1336770 I love Ann Rule too and I did the same thing and drifted away after reading just about everything from her a few years back. I still need to read the two new ones she has- I even have one and I just haven't got to it yet. I do love her writing though!
I started Suffer The Little Children last night and am almost halfway through. It's nothing short of unreal. I can't even give examples of what's unreal - there is far to much to choose from. How I'll ever review this I have no idea. It's terrifying that there are people in this world like these people in the book.... and it's sad but I'm talking about everyone except for the victims, even the people around the murderer are insane.

message 70: by Melissa (new)

Nophoto-f-25x33 I just bought "But I Trusted You" and other cases by Ann Rule, I used to read everything she wrote, but kind of drifted away some-this one looks like classic Rule-I live the way she writes-will post in 24 hours and let everyone know how it is-I tend to finish them quickly, altho I try to pace myself-to make them last longer-lol. Not having read one in awhile I'll prob read this one too fast.

I'm going to go to this site in a minute - I hope it's not too addicting! lol I'm already addicted to this one and my sister just got me addicted to FaceBook! The last thing I need is another one but I love puzzles!
My Mom found a website awhile back and it's freerice.com and it's kind of cool - I go to it for awhile sometimes. It's questions and if you answer them correctly rice gets donated to poor countries. You can switch between words and math and all that but the last time I was there it was still pretty simple. I like the word questions myself.

1336770 I like Fanning too - you just gave me an idea to so thank you! I was wondering how I was going to pick through my t.c.'s in storage but wasn't sure so now I'm going to look for a few of those.
I don't think I've heard of that Dahmer book either so I have to go check that one out.

message 66: by Lorifog (new)

1864510 I finished Secrets in the Cellar a few days ago and thought it was really good. I recommended it to a friend, too. Then, I read The Milwaukee Murders about Dahmer...geez what a sick puppy. I just ordered a few more by Diane Fanning...love her writing! I haven't gotten the OJ one yet...soon though.

message 65: by Angela (new)

2986314 I am currently reading Serial Killers by Peter Vronsky

message 64: by Lorifog (new)

1864510 Thanks Dan!

Just finished Father Forgive me by John Glatt...good but a bit wordy in some parts. I'm moving on to Secrets in the Cellar next.

message 63: by ♥Eva♥ (new)

1336770 Thanks a lot Dan! I'm always looking for more books! :)

message 62: by Dan (new)

2938560 I recommend the "Best American Crime" and "Best American Mystery" series. Great writing and compelling stories.

message 61: by ♥Eva♥ (new)

1336770 I've often thought of all the books before GR that I'll never remember! lol Sometimes I'll come across one and add it but there have to be soooo many that I'll never see again. :(
I don't think I've ever read any about Bundy. I'm sure I probably have one or two listed to-read though.

message 60: by Lorifog (new)

1864510 Going pretty well Eva, it does go on just a little at certain points but not enough for me to lose interest in it . I am the same way reading true crime...I really like more aobut the crime and the brain workings of the criminal mind....when a book gets too bogged down in extraneous details ~my mind wanders. I read a few books about Ted Buncy a number of years ago that were reallllly good....can't remember the author though. That was before I discovered goodreads :)

message 59: by ♥Eva♥ (new)

1336770 I'd love to read one together! I love doing that and seeing how opinions differ! And I'm the exact same way with t.c. books. I'm actually just now starting to read them again after about a three or four year drought. Luckily I've been still buying and ordering ones I thought looked interesting.... I knew I'd get back into it one day! lol
This one was good but he went on way too much about the fathers work and professional life. A small part was needed for the story but it just went on and on and on about his accomplishments prefessionally and that bored me to no end. I wanted their lives and the crime, not his work. But it wasn't bad - I do think he's a good writer.
How is yours going?

message 58: by Lorifog (new)

1864510 Let us know what you have Eva....maybe we can read one together? I go through periods of true crime and then not so much for a while.....I'm in one of those right now!

message 57: by ♥Eva♥ (new)

1336770 Lorifog wrote: "I've been reading Father, Forgive Me by John Glatt. It's pretty good. I also picked up Nightstalker the other day....looking to get into that one."

Hey I just finished Never Leave Me by John Glatt! I liked it but he went on a little too much about the husband's work and the company he started and all that. I'm sure that would be interesting to some people but I wanted more about their lives and the crime and that sort of thing. But it wasn't bad.
I'm going to grab a whole bunch of t.c. books this weekend from my storage unit. I'm so happy to be looking forward to reading them again after so long!

message 56: by Lorifog (new)

1864510 I've been reading Father, Forgive Me by John Glatt. It's pretty good. I also picked up Nightstalker the other day....looking to get into that one.

1041370 I am like you. I have 3 e books right now and there is one i really want to read which is a book about Lance Armstrong and his manipulations. Plus someone on shelfari asked me to read his book plus the OJ one.

I rather have a book in my hands because I already sit behind my computer too much. Reading relaxes me, the PC not so much.

message 54: by ♥Eva♥ (new)

1336770 I have two or three ebooks I tried to read and haven't been able to yet. One is by an author I REALLY like too and the ebook is a spin-off on the exact story I really love. But I just can't sit and read at my computer.
I'm thinking about printing it out and then trying it like that!

message 53: by Lorifog (new)

1864510 Thanks Marlene but I think I'll try to pick it up at the library. I really prefer having a book in my hand. I haven't gotten into the whole ebook, kindle scene yet...lol I'm just finishing up When the Wind Blows by James Patterson. I just love his books!

message 52: by ♥Eva♥ (new)

1336770 I just copied and pasted them from someone else! I'll send you one in a message and I have a butterfly too I think and then you can copy and paste them yourself!

1041370 Lorifog. I think I have it on my computer as an E book. If you want it I can see if I still have it somewhere?

I just started puzzling but i think I make it too hard on myself. I buy these very difficult puzzles and then do not look at the picture at all. I did 3 and then i got bored. I noticed it wasn't really relaxing for me. Maybe i should just look at the picture.

I liked Secrets in The cellar but not as much as our lovely Eva did. Maye because I live in Europe I knew a lot of what was in the book already and left me with so many questions, but hey I read it really fast so it is a page turner!
Eva how did you get those hearts next to your name? love them.
Still reading Affinity.

I think that's why I wanted to read it - I saw it at the library one say and couldn't help but be curious. It was so strange though.... I guess it would have to be but like you said, how could even even have the gall to go ahead with that? For what purpose?
I liked Secrets in the Cellar myself. I think Marlene will say this too - there were some unanswered questions - but for the most part I thought it was intrigueing.

message 49: by Lorifog (new)

1864510 Oh cool Marlene...how was Secrets in the Cellar? That looks really good to me. I was talking about "If I did it..." I can't believe that someone would actually have the gall to write it, but knowing that not a penny goes to him, I'd actually like to read it to find out what goes through his sick little mind.

I don't have much time to get bored ( except at work! lol). Married here, two kids a dog, love games, love puzzles and of course books...
Lori :)

message 48: by ♥Eva♥ (new)

1336770 I don't really get to bored because I'm always with a book. lol
I play some games on my phone and do have a Nintendo DS but I rarely play that anymore. Besides, when I get bored I just log on here and fix listings that need help. :)

Which OJ book are you talking about?
If I Did It Confessions of the Killer or I Want to Tell You My Response to Your Letters, Your Messages, Your Questions?
I read those two and I gave the first one 2 stars and the second one 1 star. It's been awhile since I read them so I can't remember much. I do remember one being somewhat interesting so I'm guessing that's the one I gave 2 stars - If I Did It. (What a nut for writing that....)
The other one I remember having a bunch of excerpts from letters he'd received while in prison. And he did through in the token one or two letters from people against him, saying he should rot in hell, etc. but all the rest were from "supporters" and sounded so contrived. I have no doubt he made them up as he went along. One was even "from" a kid who sent him a money order for like 5 bucks and OJ said of course he sent it back. Riiiight.... lol

1041370 Hi girlies. I read both Lucky and The Lovely Bones and "enjoyed" them both. O WTH we are here in the true crime book. I can say i enjoyed it to you girls. ;)
I even bought a cheap second copy cause I released the one I had of the Lovely Bones so I can re-read one day.

Just finished Secrets in The Cellar about Josef Fritzl and now I am reading Affinity by Sarah Waters. Well I am playing a new game on my Playstation 2 during the days so not reading quickly. Too many fun things to do and not enough time (and I do not work so I feel for all of you!

Are any of you ever bored? I am never bored cause there are always so much fun things to do. I love to watch reality TV and download series (I run a server on mirc since 2001) plus the reading and love gaming, leaves me with not enough time.

I'm with you...I don't want her to benefit one cent. I've seen a lot of her on nacy Grace and the chick shows no emotion expect regarding herself...very strange. I want to read the book by OJ, too but haven't gotten around to that.

I read The Lovely Bones and just loved it! did you know a movie is coming out about that? Eva, I listen to Lucky on audio and it was really gripping. Amazing to me that she was able to share such a horrible experience.

Lori :)

1336770 Another good one, IMO, by Sebold is Lucky. This is also fiction but it is based on Sebold's own college experience. Another love-ir-or-hate-it but I liked it. I plan on reading her other The Almost Moon sometime soon - I started it months ago and wasn't in the mood so I stuck it back on the shelf and forgot about it. Let us know what you thingk of TLB!

Hi Melissa, I read The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold and it was a great book. It's not true crime though. It's actually fictional. But don't let that stop you from reading it! I don't know if you've looked at the reviews but it's a love-ir-or-hate-it book from what I've seen. From strangers and friends alike I've heard people be SO passionate about this book. I personally loved it and I know a lot of others who did also....and I know a decent number of people who hated it.

message 42: by Melissa (new)

Nophoto-f-25x33 I'm getting ready to read THE LOVELY BONES by ALICE SIEBOLD?? gotta check and make sure that's the first name of the author-I know SIEBOLD is the last name. What I know of the book is it has gotten great reviews, but is very sad-which as we all know MOST truecrime books are. I'll let you all know how it is in a few days.

message 41: by Melissa (new)

Nophoto-f-25x33 I'm debating reading the Caylee one-I've followed the case since it began-so chances are I'll read it-I just want to make sure Casey doesn't benefit from one cent of the proceeds before I buy.

message 40: by Lorifog (new)

1864510 Hi everyone

Just joined and I was wonder if anyone was planning on reading the book Mommy's Little Girl. It's about the Casey Anthony story. I just ordered it.

Lori

1336770 I must have missed the notification about these comments but I'm going to check out a few of the books mentioned. I haven't heard of Secret Cermonies or The 4 O'Clock Murders!

message 38: by Dara (last edited Oct 28, 2009 05:47PM) (new)

1314610 I just finished Under the Banner of Heaven. I am sure a number of you have read it. If you want to learn more about the blood atonement, I recommend The 4 O'Clock Murders by Scott Anderson.

1041370 I finished Murder in Mayberry and A Fannie Flagg book. Could not get into a Jennifer Crusie book. Strange bedpersons?
Now I am reading •One Thousand White Women by Jim Fergus and enjoying it a lot.

1922589 I recently interviewed true-crime reporter Dick Lehr about his new book, "The Fence: A Police Cover-up Along Boston's Racial Divide." It's an excellent read. More here:

2421470 I'm reading Murder City: The Bloody History of Chicago in the Twenties. If you're interested in the history of Chicago crime (so far not all mob related), then this is a good one for you. I'm not thrilled with the writing style, but it's still enjoyable.

1041370 Right now I am reading The Dark Design which is book 3 of Philip Jose Farmer's Riverworld series. I loved book 1, did not really like book 2 and hope book 3 is good, otherwise I will stop reading this series.

Glitter baby, Hope you find soemthign good :)

1041370 Hi Eva. I've read Escape too and Shattered Dreams and have more books like those on my wish list. Like you I love to read about polygamy. My first book was Under The Banner of Heaven, loved that one. Others I've read were Secret Cermonies, and The 4 O' Clock Murders

Stolen Innocence by Elissa Wall. Very good so far. "

I LOVED Stolen Innocence! If you haven't yet you should try Escape also- that was the first I read, with S.I. being the second and I loved them both.
I'm on a big polygamy kick right now- reading something on the subject every few weeks at least. I'm currently reading His Favorite Wife but that's going a little slow for me.

A Father's Story was pretty good. I picked it up in my library on a whim about a year or two ago and was impressed.

1041370 Sounds interesting, both books.
I finished Stolen Innocence which was really good and now I am reading 2 books.
Ugly and To Your Scattered bodies go.

Not sure if I can read Ugly. I bought too many books about kids that were abused and I find it hard to read.

message 29: by Ulrich (new)

1922589 Just finished "Gang Leader for A Day." Excellent book. Great story, fascinating characters, and it gives real insight into gangs and the urban poor. Who knew, for instance, that most drug dealers lived with their mothers?

message 28: by Mardi (new)

1129903 I'm reading Afte Etan by someone Cohen; it is about a missing boy in NYC and is good so far. and I just finished a novel for my book club, Mudbound. The novel was great.

1041370 I did read the last book . How did you like it? I am not sure if I finished it. Maybe It wasn't my book and I did not hav the time.

message 26: by Beth (new)

2228763 I just started The Bone Collector. I've seen the film and read another Lincoln Rhyme series but I want to read the whole series from start to finish.

Also starting A Fathers Story by Lionel Dahmer.

1041370 I am not reading any true crime but I am reading Non Fiction.
Stolen Innocence by Elissa Wall. Very good so far.
