Yz the Whyz (whyz) | 8595 comments With the end of our It's a Jungle Out There Challenge just two weeks away, i'm launching our next quarterly challenge.

This one is called Of The Royal Line Challenge.

The goal is to read TEN books which titles have nobility words in it (Ex. king, queen, prince, princess, lord, lady, duke, earl, viscount, duchess, etc).

Duration: Dec 1, 2009 - Feb 28, 2010

You can put up your list anytime or you can fill it out as you go.

Anyone can sign up anytime during the challenge, but only books read within the duration of the challenge period are acceptable.

We would need you to either crossed out the title or put a read date after it or you can do both, once you have completed a book.

Have fun choosing your books.

Michelle (Michelle_Mc) | 638 comments Excellent! Another one... LOL :)
I had been hoping for one, with so many finishing soon!

Would the word Royal count?
I'm in...sorting through my books

As for, part of the series title, hmm...let me think. Sure why not. *grins*

Hey...after all, all of this is just an excuse to read what we want, so if we can make it fit, why not?

ஐ Briansgirl (Book Sale Queen)ஐ (BriansGirlKate) | 3234 comments Another royal title to include would be Sheihk. For some reason over the last few years royal desert romances have been popular with Harlequin.

Would a Scottish Highland Laird work? I've got alot of those, although not sure how many of the Laird's got into the title of the book.

MK (Consultant, Corporal Therapist) (Daalmonette) Sheik is more a title of honor given to the eldest male in the family. It literally means 'elder'. I am not sure how that translate in romance novels?

Photojim (Jim_formerly_Photojim) | 5290 comments My reading is about to be curtailed for the next two months, but I'll give it a go anyhow. (go ahead and tell me I'm starting two weeks early. I joined too late to have a real go at the jungle challenge so this is my first quarterly.)

1. Queen of Hearts by Paige Cuccaro (11/16)

Yz the Whyz (whyz) | 8595 comments Briansgirl,

I'll accept Sheikh and Laird as nobility title. They are honorific by nature, so I think they'll meet the requirements.

Kenjii,

Thanks for the explanation on the word "sheikh". That's added insight.

Jim,

Welcome to the challenge. However, this challenge does not start until Dec 1st. So no reading yet.

Harlequin romances use Sheihk/Sheik as a desert title for Prince. Correct usage or not, that's what they use.

I'm with you on that. I haven't read a historical romance in forever. I've got enough sitting on my shelves though to participate, but there wasn't much to pick from!

ஐ Briansgirl (Book Sale Queen)ஐ (BriansGirlKate) | 3234 comments I've got 100's of Harlequin Romances of all different kinds to sort through. Some on shelves and I got 5 apple boxes full of the really old white cover ones. lol That's what I get for $1 bag, bag sales at the annual friends of the library sale. Wether they are any good or not is still in question. lol

MK (Consultant, Corporal Therapist) (Daalmonette) BJ and Shannon: I'll take any suggestions you have on HR. I am open to anything.

I read one RS with a sheik in it, not impressed. LOL. Could have been the author. I have another "sheik" stashed somewhere I can put in this challenge since it can be used.

message 36: by MK (Consultant, Corporal Therapist) (last edited Nov 18, 2009 12:49pm) (new)

MK (Consultant, Corporal Therapist) (Daalmonette) Gotta think of those PNR or even UF series that have LORD and LADY in the title[i.e Lords of the Underworld:]. That helps! When all else fails. I will try and use HR for the most part. A challenge is to challenge ME.

BJ Rose (BJRose) | 3898 comments Kenjii, here are some HR possibilities - most of these authors have LOT of other books, but I'm only listing those with royal title words in them:

Julie Ann Long: The Runaway Duke
Anne Gracie: The Stolen Princess and His Captive Lady
Julie Garwood: The Lion's Lady and Prince Charming
Liz Carlyle: Never Lie to a Lady and Never Deceive a Duke
Loretta Chase: Lord Perfect, Not Quite A Lady, Lord of Scoundrels
Karen Hawkins: How to Treat a Lady, How to Abduct a Highland Lord
Julia Quinn: The Duke And I, The Viscount Who Loved Me, The Lost Duke of Wyndham
Julia London: The Hazards of Hunting a Duke, The Perils of Pursuing a Prince, The Dangers of Deceiving a Viscount
Sabrina Jeffries: In the Prince's Bed, To Pleasure a Prince, One Night With a Prince
Lisa Kleypas: Lady Sophia's Lover
Johanna Lindsey: Once a Princess
Celeste Bradley has The Royal Four quartet about His Majesty's spies
Victoria Alexander had some with royal titles but I haven't kept any of those
Except for the last two authors, I've only listed the ones I've read and kept - Shannon will likely have many more.

And check out my list above - I think they're all HR

MK (Consultant, Corporal Therapist) (Daalmonette) Oh wow! Thanks BJ! I can check in to these while at work Thurs. =D.

I've not been impressed with Harlequin's Sheik/Sheihk stories either. I only have some of them as my father as passed them on to me to read.

Linda Winstead Jones has a PNR trilogy that fits this challenge:

Prince of Fire, Prince of Magic, Prince of Swords

And the first book in Christine Feehan's Carpathians series fits: Dark Prince

The Holy Terror (theholyterror) | 303 comments Kenjii wrote: "BJ and Shannon: I'll take any suggestions you have on HR. I am open to anything."

I've read very few HRs to tell you the truth. And what I could recommend doesn't fit with this challenge! : (

BJ Rose (BJRose) | 3898 comments "Kenjii wrote: "BJ and Shannon: I'll take any suggestions you have on HR. I am open to anything."

I forgot Elizabeth Thornton - she writes historical romantic-suspense, if that appeals to you more. Some of her 'royal' titles:

Princess Charming, Almost a Princess, The Perfect Princess, Shady Lady

MK (Consultant, Corporal Therapist) (Daalmonette) Thanks again BJ. I'll check those titles out.

Shannon: Thanks for letting me know. Perhaps this is the challenge to get into then?

The Holy Terror (theholyterror) | 303 comments Kenjii wrote: "Shannon: Thanks for letting me know. Perhaps this is the challenge to get into then?"

Yeah, I'm thinking this will force me out of my genre comfort zone. I've got the books on my shelves already, I might as well read them!

ஐ Briansgirl (Book Sale Queen)ஐ (BriansGirlKate) | 3234 comments I've got the last book in common with you Jane. lol
