From what I can see about the book, I have no problem in placing it within the Non-Fiction category.
I'm thinking of reading Richest Man in Babylon by George Clausen. Its written almost as a parable, but I'd like to use it as the non-fiction portion of the task. Its really about wealth management, and I'm not sure it qualifies as fiction. Any thoughts?

Both are fine.

I have no problem with that. In fact, the other one doesn't even have to be extra long ;-).
Ok this is what I have come up with for this task. My New Year's Resolution is to find romantic love, so I am going to read "loving" by Henry Green and "Keeping the Love you Find." Does this work?
My resolution is to walk 2 to 4 miles every day that I can (I have health issues and walking helps). The book I really want to read about my resolution is Just Walking by Clella Camp. The problem is it is 99 pages JUST ONE page short of the 100 pages. Can I read this and read an extra long fiction book to make up for it?

Yup, that's fine!

My resolution is to learn more about slavery so will these books work:

NON-Fiction-To Be a slave

Yes they are fine, and they DO sound hilarious!
I'm assuming that You On A Diet The Owner's Manual for Waist Management & Such a Pretty Fat One Narcissist's Quest to Discover if Her Life Makes Her Ass Look Big, or Why Pie is Not the Answer will work for this challenge.
I hope so cause I already started Such a Pretty Fat and it is hilarious!

As that was his forte I have no problem with the choice.
My resolution is to go for more nature walks/hikes, so I'm planning on using Roddy Doyle's The Woman Who Walked into Doors for my fiction and Eric Blehm's The Last Season for my non-fiction. The latter's about a park ranger famous for rescuing lost hikers who is later lost himself. Not sure if the connection's too tenuous, so I'm in need of a ruling.

Friday Night Knitting Club is a great book. The sequal Knit Two is also good.
Just checking my resolution and books to support.
Resolution: Start a knitting group to make rectangles for afghans for wounded soldiers (Homemade Afghan Project).
Fiction: The Friday Night Knitting Club
Non-fiction: Zen and the Art of Knitting

The non-fiction is fine; however, the fiction needs to have a word in the title that pertains to your resolution--baby, pregnant, family, etc.
My resolution is to be more at peace with myself. I chose The Battersea Park Road to Enlightenment for my fiction choice and The Inner Game of Stress for my non-fiction option.
If my resolution is to start a family and to possibly get pregnant, could I use What to Expect Before You're Expecting and Anne's House of Dreams by L.M. Montgomery for the fiction, because she gets pregnant and "house of dreams" totally fits what I want for myself this year - dreams of building my home and family? Thanks!

Those two sound fine!
Katy wrote: "Katie - if you're looking for a nonfiction book about getting involved in politics/your community, you could try Soul of a Citizen Living With Conviction in a Cynical Time - not sure..."Wow, Katy, that sounds just like another book from my TBR list: Citizen Democracy Political Activism in a Cyncial Age by Stephen Frantzich. I interned for him back in high school (oh, eight years ago or so) and he gave me a copy that I still haven't read. Sadly, that's not the oldest book on my TBR list.
I think for the second part of the task I'm going to read How to Overthrow the Government by Arianna Huffington--another one that's been on the TBR list forever. Thanks for the suggestion, though. That does look like an inspiring book. Must...not...add...to...list!
Roseann, I just want to make sure you are ok with my resolution before I finalize it.My resolution is to be a better and healthier mommy (patience with a 2 1/2 yr old ;P ), so I was going to read Taking Care of the Me in Mommy Becoming a Better Mom - Spirit, Body & Soul and The Mommy Club. Is this ok with you?
Thanks Roseann and Felina. I'm going to go with the writing resolution. It's an important one:) I'm going to fit The Book Thief somewhere else. So many people have enjoyed it. Thanks again!
Katie - if you're looking for a nonfiction book about getting involved in politics/your community, you could try Soul of a Citizen Living With Conviction in a Cynical Time - not sure if it would work for you but it's really good and I find it very inspiring along the lines of your resolution!

Both of your choices look fine.
For the "reading" you could try a book on procrastination.
Dlmrose wrote: "Melissa wrote: "Hi, I need help with this one! My resolution is to practice yoga more often, but I really can't find a fiction book that has yoga in the title. Non-fictions books are easy. Can I..."Thanks Dlmrose. After looking at the books and giving it some thought, I think I might use one of my other two resolutions. The fiction books about that have yoga in the title don't really interest me and I don't find them too yogic. I'm thinking about the following:
1st Resolution: Stop procrastinating and finish writing my dissertation
A. No One Writes to the Colonel: and Other Stories by Gabriel García Márquez
B. On Writing by Stephen King
2nd Resolution: Make an effort to finish books that I have started and never picked up again.
A.The Book Thief
B.TBD
Would those work? Does anyone have any book suggestions about reading? Thanks again!

Both of your choices are fine.
I don't think your resolution is vague at all, good luck!

Okay, thanks. Maybe I'll try The Greening of Ben Brown A Novel for the fiction one.
My resolution is sort of vague- it's to be a more powerful, proactive person (i.e., not so bloody lazy and bleh). So for my non fiction I am going to read The Pursuit - Success is hidden in the journey. by Dexter Yaeger. I had some trouble with the fiction...would The Power and the Glory by Graham Green work?

For the fiction: look for words like "child, care, teach, education, etc".
For the non-fiction, any how-to book on child care would be fine.

I'll go with your part A choice, but the second book just has to do with the actual resolution, so you might want to look for a book that talks about how to get involved in your community.

For the fiction-no. Try looking up titles with "environment, green, ecology, etc" in them.
The non-fiction is fine.
My resolution is to get my a$$ into gear and finally finish my Diploma in Child Care. I was hoping to be finished by the end of this year! But I got a traineeship in the library and I've had to place that as a kind of part time thing.
Any suggestions on books I could use?
