Thanks, Tressa. I'll definitely check that one out. Funny thing is I love to read blood, guts, and gore, but I don't like to watch it because I think modern "torture porn" is boring. I do like the older gore movies like Herschell Gordon Lewis's stuff, for instance, but not modern stuff like "Saw" and "Hostel". They bore me. Maybe when it's all in my head it's more fun? Who knows... ;)I also like haunted house stories. Aside of "Hell House", "The Haunting Of Hill House", and "The Shining", anyone have some good suggestions?
if you love any one genre alot you experience tons of crap because you already went through the good stuff
After reading "Guts", I want more splatterpunk. :P Girl, go grab The Summer I Died. You'll get more splatterpunk than you bargained for!
Haunted House is my favorite genre, although it's so often done badly. I guess that's true of every genre!
I don't know why I like horror, I'm such a pansy I can't even sleep with the lights out after reading some of this stuff! pathetic, to be the mom who needs a night-light
Elizabeth, try reading http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17918...
john skipp and co are some of the early writers in splatter punk.
I'd like to see more slipstream, mainly so that I'd get a better grip as to exactly what it is.After reading "Guts", I want more splatterpunk. :P
I decided to get ideas from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genre and they list about 10 subgenres of horror. "Clockpunk" got me off the horror track -- sounds neat! Back to the subject at hand, I like psychological horror. This seems to cross with the supernatural (The Haunting) but I have seen it coincide with serial killer plots (The Glistner). A Prayer for the Dying is a good example; the reader is completely absorbed into the character's personality, psyche and actions. I feel like this genre produces the most profound reading experience.
