2012 Isn't End of the World, Mayans Insist...-> Jackie's going Quaker, what to wear?
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story...Definitely not, the Mayan Indian elder insists. "I came back from England last year and, man, they had me fed up with this stuff."
Heh. Guess we can plan our 2012 activities...hm...what should be my facebook status update on January first...
Hmmmm ... maybe I should rethink that huge balloon payment that's due on my mortgage right after that.
reading that article made me feel a lot better haha i hate how there are so many shows and things trying to scare you with 2012 stuff
dude, there were lots of guys gonna score on December 31st 2011 using the "baby, c'mon...the world is going to end at midnight so let's get freaky" scam that are now going to be very unhappy with the Mayans
Oh boy...I like the line ""That the world is going to end? They wouldn't believe you. We have real concerns these days, like rain.""Makes me think of my favorite quote (I wish I knew where it was from...) "It'll all be alright in the end. If it isn't alright, it isn't the end."
Two things:1. The end of the world, according to the Mayans IF we are to believe this hooey, would take place on December 12, 20012, which would also coincide with my father's 65th birthday.
Man, I so don't want my dad's birthday to be a bummer that day.
2. You know WHY the Mayan calendar ends on that date?
Because they ran out of stone!
BA-DUM-DUM...PISSH!
Thank you, thank you! I'll be here all week, two shows Friday!
Y2K, all over again. One of my religiously zealous friends' pastor is already preaching the end times. She told everyone at school before our Christmas break in 1999 that it was nice knowing us.
totally makes sense that a preacher would be preaching end times based on a diff cultures religious beliefs. that's a guy i want to trust in. actually, biblically, no one will know when the end time will come although there are indicatorsthere, that should spark some comments ;)
Wow...I'm really confused...because for years I heard people on the left saying...http://earthhopenetwork.net/bush%20art/g...
or
http://www.manlyrash.com/blog/wp-content...
:)
For the record, I'm a fan of neither, at this point, but equal time and all that...Bush had more years to hang himself, Obama seems smarter, let's see what happens...I don't think I'd want to be president...whoever doesn't like you is pretty much guaranteed, sooner or later, to call you the devil...)
It's stupid, isn't it? Either way?
And I think that kind of talk comes from the least credible folks from the extremes.
All's fair in love, war, and political commentary, apparently.I did an entire 4-H project on political cartoons that featured George Bush.
Yeah, I agree. Or maybe it's extreme and kind of lazy venting. Although, to be fair, I think a small number of right wing extremists may think Obama is the literal antichrist...while those on the left just hated Bush a lot and probably didn't go to church much.:)

He does fit the profile much better than Bush did, in my opinion. The antichrist is supposed to usher in a period of peace, I believe.
As a journalist who covers politics as part of my job,, I'm really fed up with the rabid, bitter partisanship on both ends of the spectrum, and the knee-jerk rhetoric, and the mud-slinging. I just want to tell them all to STFU.
Christians have been preaching the end of the world since Christ ascended to heaven, probably even before that.. that's nothing new.. also an anti-christ is someone from within the church that claims to be preaching truth that misleads the people of God.. so i wouldn't include obama or bush in there, as far i as know.. and as far as the end of the world goes, i don't know or care, were not supposed to, and it holds no meaning.. i'm not going to live any different then i do now, i always try my best to do my best.. one thing i'm sure about is anyone who claims to know when the world ends doesn't..
On the other hand, David, the end of the world can make for some really cool movie effects. Even though I find the premise ridiculous, I probably will go see 2012 just because the fictional destruction looks pretty awesome in the trailers. I'm a disaster movie junkie.
I think that all this hype about the world ending in 2012 is all for nothing. I mean its just going to though people off like it did when we came to the year 2000.
The thing I find most mind blowing about millenial cults is that they often continue on after the world doesn't end. I mean I would think that if somebody tells me join my church because the world is going to end on Thursday and on Friday I'm still around, I'm not staying in that church.
I had a friend who tried that, Jackie. He said it was really good. He just felt uncomfortable not having someone who gets up and preaches. They all just sit there until someone is moved to speak. Sometimes it's quiet for a long time.I think it would be really cool, myself. I'll be interested in what you think about it.
