1163325 I don't own any Bookmark Magazine reviewed books to be read but I knew I had not read all the books that I highlighted over the years. So, I recently went back and made a list all those books dating back to 2003. I now have 128 books on my Bookmarks TBR list.
Now when it comes to nominating book from back issues, I'm ready. I'd like to nominate Netherland by Joseph O'Neil (Jul/Aug 08) It generated a lot of buzz when it came out and I thought it sounded interesting. it's about a man who lives in the Chelsea Hotel in NYC and befriends an immigrant from Trinidad. Basically it's a take on the American Dream. From the Nov/Dec 09 issued I nominate Her Fearful Symmetry by Audrey Niffenegger, author of the Times Traveler's Wife.

1410203 I second Gourmet Rhapsody. Other than that, I am up for anything. I am still behind. I just picked up this month's book.

424981 I second Jennifer's nomination of Homer and Langley A NovelHomer and Langley A Novel. I just ordered it two days ago from the swap site I'm part of. I've loved all the other books I've read by Doctorow.

1751627 I'd second People of The Book. I started it a while back and put it down to get up to date with my face2face group. I'm not loving it, but if we have a discussion here it might give me the impetus to finish it!

I have some of the others here on my TBR list, so I won't nominate any other ones.

2635637 I just looked at the polls and so far, from the current issue, People of the Book is in the lead. For a book from a past issue poll, it is too tight to call right now...3 books have 8 votes and one has 6. It's a race! :)

When does the polling end?

message 12: by Lisa (new)

1989238 The poll ends on Saturday, Nov. 21st.

message 13: by Lisa (new)

1989238 We still have a tie for the group read from the current issue. Please take a minute to vote if you haven't already done so OR if you have voted, you may change your vote to another pick.

message 14: by Lynn (new)

1838330 Wow, Lisa - it really is close! Two with 9 votes and one with 8...even the 4th place book isn't that far out!

message 15: by Lisa (new)

1989238 Can you believe it? We are still tied, again! 16 votes each.

Come on people, vote!

message 16: by Kelly (new)

336703 Couldn't we just read one for the first cycle and the second for the next cycle? Seems like a lot of people want to read these two titles.

message 17: by Patti (new)

Nophoto-f-25x33 I agree with Kelly, would it be possible to read one in Dec and one in Jan. I actually would like to read both of them. Whatever will be fine with me.

message 18: by Jaime (new)

424981 They both sound great! But, I just got Her Fearful Symmetry at B&N today for 50% plus an additional 10% (for being a member) off. So, if we must only read one, my vote is for that one.

message 19: by Lisa (new)

1989238 Okay, the race between Her Fearful Symmetry and The Calligrapher's Daughter has been too close, so after a little persuading (Kelly & Patti), I'm going to declare them both winners. Actually, my arm didn't need any twisting; I was already leaning in this direction. I like seeing everyone reading something they like and participating!

So, this means we have 3 group reads for the months of December and January. People of the Book was the stand out pick from our "any issue" selection. Choose to read one or all at any time during the next 2 months, then share your thoughts on the books with the rest of us. I look forward to our group discussions. Enjoy!
