1042102 I went to the book signing in San Jose last saturday by Brandon Sanderson and Robert Jordan's widow, Harriet McDougal. Sanderson was so humble and heartfelt as he told about Harriet contacting him to finish the series. He's a real fanboy of the series himself and was so verklempt when Harriet asked him. It was very touching.

2597386 Yeah, I'd prefer someone like Michael Whelan to do the art. L.E. Modesitt uses the same artist I think and its just as boring and stereotypical.

Brandon Sanderson does a great job with the book. If I had not seen the author I would not be able to tell that it was a different author except that Brandon does a great job of providing energy and moving the story forward whereas the last couple of books Jordan actually wrote were stagnant. Nothing really happened.

I really enjoyed the book.

2556678 I admit I have the heebie jeebies about this book. All the usual questions and fears. Thanks for the candid remarks, maybe I will put the preconceived notions on the shelf and try to read it because it is very bad form to leave a series hanging, particularly when you are ten plus books in.

Personal opinion; the cover art was underwhelming. Why, oh why, does this genre suffer from stereotypical pictures of buxom women and strong, muscular men. If I didn't know the story within, I would think it was for some light weight romance series!!

Nophoto-m-25x33 I finished reading it about a week ago myself; I was really impressed by how well Sanderson managed to maintain the overall feel of the series. You could definitely tell that it wasn't written by the original author directly but he managed to make it feel remarkably close. Two or three of the characters didn't really feel like themselves to me at points; but overall I think he did an excellent job.

2813849 I was REALLY excited to get the new Robert Jordan book and was even more thrilled when I saw that Brandon Sanderson was chosen to finish it for him. I just read his "Elantris" and really liked it. I've been waiting for over a year and half for Book 12!

Anyone else in on this?
