IMHO, I'd be a lot more likely to click on those links if I could have the links I would like to use available on the book's page instead of having them additional clicks away.

And to add to the thread, I very much prefer having the links below the book similar to what we had before. The way it is currently it triggers "advertisement" in my head and I only noticed it when I went to click for additional editions.

I use the editions links all the time, too, as a librarian... I went to fix an edition of a book earlier, and was shocked to see the other edition links not in their normal place! (Although they are back to normal right now... Chrome...)

Agreed... Although I personally like the find a copy links where they were! I use those all the time to see if my library has a copy of a book.... And I thought the links were lovely right where they were... Although I can see how they might be a bit difficult to find for people who aren't on this site 24 18 12 6 hours a day...

Agreed. I thought it was an advert at first... It was the box around the links, I think...

2343573 My preferred order would be:

Other Editions
Find a Copy
Advertisment

I'm not going to lie, though, seeing it displayed prominently makes me consider buying a copy much more than it being simply listed. And reminds me how I can't afford to buy any more books, lol.

83445 Thanks Ken-ichi. I'm one of the ones seeing it and I don't like it because many users will never find the other editions of a book. Some had problems finding other editions even the way it was before. If the other editions could also be seen without scrolling I'd be more enthusiastic.

Edit: Like Rivka, I use those find a copy links a lot as a librarian, but I had no problem finding/using them the way they were. I guess it's slightly better this way but not enough for me to like the new layout.

732709 Thanks, Ken-ichi.

It's always confusing when you see praise or comments on a new feature and you can't find it.

129343 Thanks for clarifying, Ken-ichi! :-)

If the find at link stays in top right corner, then could the other editions link possibly be moved under the book info box (where the find at link used to be located)? That might help both causes...?

216786 Hi folks. We're doing a test to see if putting those links in the upper right encourages people to click on them, so only half of all users are seeing the new placement.

129343 Update: My Firefox is showing new layout, my IE7 is showing old layout.

5 minutes later: Closed my Firefox; when reopened it went back to old layout. IE7 remained on old layout.

Weird.

129343 I just completely rebooted my computer and now it is showing the new layout as well. (Why, oh why, did I do that?) I agree with everyone who has commented thus far...not a fan of how the book pages look/work. Very difficult to find the other editions link. Not very user friendly. :(

I was wrong. This is correct.

1005037 rivka wrote: "Nope. Have you cleared your cache?"

Yup. And tried finding new books and looking at their book pages, too, just in case. Everything looks just as it always did...huh. In FF and Chrome, yes, but in IE I see the new...wait, no, now IE also gives me the old layout, even on the same book that was moments ago showing the new layout. What?

message 15: by Charity (new)

129343 My screen is the same as Rebecca's and Cait's...the same as it has always been with Other Editions in the top right corner and the Find At links located under the book info. (Checked on both Firefox and IE.)

message 14: by mlady_rebecca (new)

732709 Cleared the cache. No change.

Too many things open at the moment, but I'll try rebooting later today.

message 13: by Donna (new)

673557 As I said in the other thread, the format and placement of that new box makes it look more like an ad to me than a Goodreads feature.

message 12: by rivka (new)

171430 Nope. Have you cleared your cache?

message 11: by Cait (new)

1005037 Okay, I'm glad I'm not the only one who has no idea what y'all are talking about! Is this a partial roll-out, maybe on only some books or only some webservers?

message 10: by rivka (new)

171430 I still like the box. But that's because I use those links so much as a librarian, and now more fit than with it the other way.

Rebecca, try clearing your cache.

1724711 I agree! Put the different editions back at the top of the page!!

The Amazon field at the top makes it seems like the main priority here is to sell books (which I hope is not the case); the priority should be (IMHO) to get all the people reading the myriad versions of a book to all speak the same book language, so to speak: to make sure that we all can read our own editions of a book and be sure that we connect with everyone else.

message 8: by mlady_rebecca (new)

732709 I still don't see it. I looked at books I own and books I don't own. I played with the settings on Firefox, and tried IE Tab. "Other Editions" is still at the top of the right hand column for me.

Not complaining, mind you. Just confused. I still see the Amazon (et al) links under the book data. Works fine there.

message 7: by Dionisia (new)

2140293 Agreed that the other editions box should at least be put back where it was before.

1356469 I posted a topic moaning earlier... if GR has to have a big ugly box thing then could it go under the advertisement and put the editions box back where it was all neat and tidy?

I personally did use the Amazon link occasionally. However I don't think I'll use it any more as I can't be bothered to especially look for it.

777924 mlady - Select a book and where you would normally see the other editions of a book on the right hand side of the screen - there is now a box with Amazon links (the links that used to be underneath the Book information)

message 4: by rivka (new)

171430 The links to other sites with the book (Amazon, WorldCat, etc.) now has its own box, top right.

message 3: by mlady_rebecca (new)

732709 What do you mean by "find a copy"? I'm not seeing that. Maybe I'm just looking at the wrong place.

message 2: by Lisa (new)

83445 I agree with Paula. I'd like to see the other editions without having to scroll. Some members are going to have a hard time finding them the way it is now. Thanks for considering this request.

777924 I do like the easy way to find copies of books but I personally preferred having the Other Editions section at the top of my screen. It appears that the Other Editions box is relegated to 3rd place below the Find a Copy of this book and a advert. Any chance it can at least take 2nd place above the advert??
