No problem, just want to make sure if people enjoy the Books of Blood, that they can read the rest, just under different titles, in the US. Some really good ones are in the latter set of books.Honestly I didn't know about V4-6 until I started collection all of Barkers novels in 1st/1st/HC format. It's then I discovered that little nugget.
Yeah, Cabal isn't apart of the series, probably both to coincide with the film as well as bulk up the book, otherwise, Cabal as a Book of Blood would have been small without it.And to seal the deal, from Clive Barkers website in regard to US versions of Cabal.
Note 1 : All US versions (with the exception of the typed manuscript proofs) contain Books of Blood 6 in addition to Cabal.
*edit*
He's also had sequels to Cabal planned, but have never materialized in any form yet [was discussed as book or possible comic:]. It's still listed, along with Art III, as possible sequels that he might get to.
Scott you are correct, technically [according to Clive:] Books of Blood v 1-3, along with In The Flesh, The Inhuman Condition and Cabal (minus the actual story Cabal) are short stories in the Books of Blood series. UK got them as Vol 1-6, The US got the stated above releases.I can confirm this as I have a 1st/1st HC UK copy of the complete Books of Blood v1-6 Omnibus, I compared it to my paperback copies of Books of Blood 1-3 Omnibus, In The Flesh, Inhuman Condition & Cabal. They are exactly the same minus the Cabal story.
Rumor has it he might be releasing previously unreleased or newly polished material to add to the Books of Blood, stories that were originally supposed to be included or were excluded for one reason or another.
I don't think those are related to the Books of Blood collection, Jerrod. Separate books, in fact...
Chris wrote: "Again...highly recommend his novella collection, Cabal...his best, I think! "which is actually books of blood v4-6 (In The Flesh, The Inhuman Condition & Cabal)
I have to say that I find each story better than the last, I am so happy I picked this book up, thanks!
To me, The Hellbound Heart is waaay b..."The Hellbound Heart is a fantastic novella very much in the same vein as the Books of Blood. My personal favorite is In The Flesh, but The Yattering & Jack is a up their too.

Thanks! I figured out that The Midnight Meat Train was already out on DVD after I already posted. I look forward to watching both films, haven't read On Jerusalem Street yet though...

To me, The Hellbound Heart is waaay better than the Books of Blood stories, although I absolutely loved Rawhead Rex.
Check his novella collection, too, Elena, called Cabal (which includes, obviously, Cabal, the novella which was the basis for his film, The Night Breed). Barker is definitely one of the most original 'voices' in modern horror fiction in decades.
I have never read this author before. I have finished the first two stories. The first one, The Mindnight Meat Train, was really good until the end. So, that was it?
The second one's ending was better, The Yattering and Jack, but it dragged too long at times on the description of the poltergeist events.
Still I will continue reading, but not one after the other. I had not read horror for years. This is a good re-introduction. It reminds me what I have been missing :)
Great this is getting renewed attention. I still remember when I first bought this way back when after reading the blurb by King. I was BLOWN away. I still read Barker's novels (although, Clive, if you read this...give us some of your old-school HORROR...PLEASE!) I'd have to say his first several books are his best. Cabal is my fav.
Me personally, i like Clive Barker. I have quite a few of his books, just not The Books of Blood. Jerrod said the movie wasn't that bad, so i watched it. And he was right. And i thoughy it was good. So jump on in the waters fine!
I hate Clive Barker, generally, but I'm willing to give anyone a fresh chance if the recommendation is respected enough. Is this a good collection to try again with Barker, or should I hold off and try something else?
Jerrod, I got to watch Books of Blood before i left to go to Florida for Thanksgiving. It was very good. Not to gorey at all. I also had a movie called Train, with Thora Birch,( she was the little girl in Hocus Pocus) it was so gorey in the first 20 minutes i cut it off. If you watch it let me know how it ends up.
Biblio....Book Of Blood is decent, worth a one time watch anyway. Based on the combo story of On Jerusalem Street and Book of Blood.
Midnight Meat Train has been released on DVD already, I enjoyed it. Dread is the newest one that will be released sometime next year, it debuts in January at a few film festivals.
I just finished Vol. 1 of Books of Blood, my first time actually reading Clive Barker even though I've seen all the Hellraiser films and Nightbreed. I really enjoyed it overall. I think my favorite story was The Midnight Meat Train and The Yattering and Jack. Over the Hills, The Cities was pretty gruesome too, once I was able to visualize the horror of it. I plan on reading Vols. 2 and 3 via eBook. Has anyone here seen the movie Books of Blood? Is it based only on that story? Is it good?
I hear The Midnight Meat Train is in the works...
gotta read this series again. I cannot remember a thing about it.Our library is sadly Barker deprived. They do pretty good on the Leisure authors and many of the classics,
old and new, but they give poor old Clive a scant two books

Negative...
I'm a Barker fan boy, I recently finished purchasing all his books in 1st/1st HC.
Pam,
Sorry to hear he doesn't do it for you, at least you gave it a chance. Maybe a full novel would do it, like Damnation Game or Weaveworld.
Jaimie does she still get eaten alive at the end?
I like CB. I've got quite a few of his books, just not TMMT. The man is scary. ***shivers***
Lori, the end of The Midnight Meat Train story is quite different. You get to understand more about the creatures.
Pamela, I think Barker is like Lovecraft. Either you get them or you don't. I can't get through anything of Lovecraft but there are legions who love his work. To each their own.
I liked the Midnight Meat Train alright. I think I just am not a Clive Barker fan. His stories just don't do it for me. Maybe it's me. The Yattering and Jack is my favorite so far, but I'm having trouble pulling myself through the stories.
I didn't read The Midnight Meat Train, but i seen the movie. OMG that was one f'd up movie. The whole thing was tense, but the end. The way he fought for his girlfriend i just knew she was going to make it. That end scene with her being eaten alive, still gives me cold chills.
Yattering and Jack is a clever story, my current favorite is not in the first 3 volumes the story In The Flesh from In The Flesh is my current favorite.
I watched a little of the movie when it premiered on Syfy but I was getting sick of the commercials. From what I saw, I liked.
I've read this a long time ago and just recently re-read The Midnight Meat Train (for a refresher before I watched the movie) and In the Hills, the Cities. In the Hills, the Cities is by far his best work IMO. It's such a unique concept that it boggles my mind to think about how he came up with that.
Rawhead Rex and The Yattering and Jack are favorites of mine too. The Yattering is very entertaining and what I loved about Rawhead Rex is that the story is from the point of view of the monster. There are a lot of stories from the monsters point of view but this is the only one I've read in which the monster is unapologetic.
Pig's Blood Blues is my least favorite. I gave up eating pork products for years after reading it.
it's not too bad, it a combo of Book of Blood and On Jerusalem Street. It's got it's graphic moments, but it's overall not to horrible.
Seen this movie at the video store, and i almost got it. But the back cover said lots of gore, & my mother in law doesn't like gore. She lives with us so i try to get something we can all enjoy. I'm going to try to get it this week & wait to see if she goes to bed early so i can watch it.
for those reading The Books of Blood, if you like the stories, be sure to finish the series by reading The Inhuman Condition, Cabal and In The Flesh. They are volumes 4-6 of the Books of Blood. Why they released it as 1-6 in Europe and varied titles in the US is any ones guess.
i , as well, read this a few years ago, and overall was pleased. i tend to like his fantasy more than his horror. i think my favorite was The Midnight Meat Train.
The only one of these I've read recently was The Inhuman Condition, but I think I remember most of the stories pretty well.
I bought this today and The Hellbound Heart. I'm excited, only read a short story by Clive Barker in The Living Dead anthology but loved it.
I started reading it yesterday. I haven't read much Clive Barker at all, including these books. So far, the first story is pulling me in.
