721021 Listen, I like the holiday season and all, but pretty soon music like THIS is going to be inescapable...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sR3CKEC3l...

To what are you not looking forward, either with the holidays or life in general?

289556 Oh, hey, I'm going to the Transiberian Orchestra concert with Gretchen in a couple of weeks. It makes me laugh and laugh!
Can't wait! :)

message 3: by RandomAnthony (new)

721021 You lie. You headbang at Trans-siberian Orchestra concerts, don't you, Jackie? Do you make the devil sign with your hands and rock out to the Carol of the Bells?

289556 I snicker, and I rock out, both! I can appreciate the cheesiness of it all, while still enjoying the heavy metal beat.
I am a many-layered woman, RA.

1144499 I am a many-layered woman, RA.

And so it is revealed.

message 6: by RandomAnthony (new)

721021 That you are, librarian, that you are...

I try to limit my cheesiness appreciation to Amy Grant's music and Vampire Diaries but usually fail.

message 7: by Gus (new)

1047204 I like Christmas itself, but I'm already dreading the fact that most retailers already have their Christmas swag on display.

289556 I mean, I'm wearing wings, for heaven's sake. Who am I to judge?

message 9: by Larry (new)

Amen, sister.

message 10: by RandomAnthony (new)

721021 I hear the black Friday ads are leaking, Gus...

Yes, who are you to judge, librarian? Esp. as far as Morrissey and Stars of the Lid are concerned?:)

289556 So, you're admitting that Morrissey and Stars of the Lid are cheesy, RA?

message 12: by RandomAnthony (new)

721021 Dammit. Walked into that one. I should know better.

message 13: by Jim (new)

1668388 Sears actually started their black friday last weekend, they even promoted it.

message 14: by Gus (new)

1047204 Sears is hurting right now, so anything to boost their sales isn't surprising.

963312 I don't know what the hell is going on here, but I will tell of that to which I am not looking forward....I am riding for over an hour with my mother and two of her sisters to meet my 90 year old grandparents for dinner. The grandparents are awesome, but the other part makes me want to stab myself in the eye. I think I will actually ENCOURAGE my daughter to watch a dvd in the car so that I may "enjoy" it with her.

message 16: by RandomAnthony (new)

721021 You see? I'm with Vanessa. I'd rather stay home 90% of the time. But Vanessa's scenario makes me anxious, and I don't even have to be there.

289556 I see my aunt so infrequently, I think I might actually enjoy a car trip like that with her and my mom.
But then, I have a strange sense of humor, apparently.

message 18: by RandomAnthony (new)

721021 Apparently?

:)

message 19: by Vanessa (new)

963312 NO, no, no, Jackie! These are 3 of 12 siblings. You can't imagine what kind of dynamic that creates. And these particular three are LOUD and opinionated. My teeth are clenching just thinking about it. I love 'em, but...the aunts and Mom, not the teeth.

message 20: by Gus (new)

1047204 I'm with Vanessa as well. I'm dreading the holidays because my in-laws will surely come to visit, which means 4 days of my mother-in-law complaining or bragging about something, followed by her getting violently sick and ruining everything for everyone. She got so sick a couple of Christmases ago that she actually slept through Dec. 25th.

message 21: by Vanessa (new)

963312 Why does that somehow bring to mind "Christmas Vacation," Gus?

289556 Maybe we should all hide out at Kevin's over the holidays, and eat omelettes...

message 23: by Vanessa (new)

963312 OH! And that car trip is today. Has nothing to do with holidays. I actually enjoy the holidays very much.

message 24: by RandomAnthony (new)

721021 Kevin's only a few hours from me. And you know he's so nice he'd be like, "Sure, everybody! Come on in! Who wants a mohawk? Mohawks for everybody!"

message 25: by Vanessa (new)

963312 Who wouldn't want a mohawk just in time for holiday photos?

message 26: by Gus (new)

1047204 I'd mohawk my pubes...

Man, I shouldn't have said that...

message 27: by Angie (new)

2343573 *groans*

I'm not looking forward to... shit, I don't know. Then again, I don't have anything to look forward TO, really, so I guess it equals out?

I am looking forward to snow, but about two days of that and I'll be back to hating it. :P

message 28: by Misha (new)

2205814 One of our local radio stations started playing non-stop Christmas music before Halloween.

I'm not looking forward to having my nasal passages so swollen from this damned cold that I can't breathe. Oh, wait. Too late.

I am looking forward to some cheap, greasy Chinese food for lunch. $3.25 lunch special!

message 29: by Angie (new)

2343573 So what'dya have for lunch, Misha??

message 30: by Misha (new)

2205814 I ended up grabbing a chicken strips meal from KFC, as I had a sudden craving for mashed potatoes. It's the cold. Mashed potatoes are my sick day comfort food.

But my usual from the Chinese place is sweet & sour chicken with fried rice.

966475 I'm not looking forward to Thanksgiving, because my mom will be out of the country again this year, which means we'll be going to my in-laws again this year, which means that everything will be funky and not like I like it. I have a very particular Thanksgiving menu in my mind that my parents and their friends have been making for 30+ years - the same stuffing, the same sweet potatoes, the same rolls - anything else is just not good.

message 32: by Larry (new)

1144499 So have your own.

message 33: by Jim (new)

1668388 Sorry Sally Lou.

I am looking forward to Thanksgiving this year as we are hosting it this year and I do get to have all the traditional food.

message 34: by Larry (new)

1144499 I'm serious. Have your own.

message 35: by Sally , masters master(er) (new)

966475 I don't mean to sound snotty, they're great and they are great hosts, Sweeter's mom is a great cook.

message 36: by Larry (new)

1144499 I get it.

289556 I know what you mean, Sally. My mother-in-law just cannot make stuffing.

message 38: by Larry (new)

1144499 There's no place like home for the holidays.

message 39: by Angie (new)

2343573 A few Thanksgivings ago, my paternal grandma yelled at everyone because we wanted to just order in pizza or subs. So my mom and my aunt (the only two women!) made this big Thanksgiving dinner... and my grandma didn't even show up. Since then, we've brought all the holidays to her. My mom hates it because on my dad's side of the family, there are 3 boys (2 usually single) and 1 girl, and my mom and aunt get stuck with most of the cooking while my uncles bring litres of pop.

Ha! Last Thanksgiving I had one of those add-hot-water stuffing mixes with my rice and dal. So I guess I am looking forward to a full traditional meal.

i went last year and i want to go again when it comes to indy. it was outstanding!

1757741 i am totally up for a holiday hang-out with anyone near me. i would drive up to 158 miles or we could meet here

btw - i totally did not look forward to ESPN this morning after the WS last night

message 42: by RandomAnthony (last edited Nov 05, 2009 07:04AM) (new)

721021 I watched ESPN from the gym...they only did about ten, maybe twelve minutes, on last night's game, at least as the opening...kind of surprised me.

message 43: by Larry (new)

1144499 So the Yankees won the WS. What's so unique about that? Bloomberg won as Mayor, too, with almost $100 million spent. :::shrugs shoulders:::

1757741 i just didn't want to see what i knew was going to be true. 2009 World Series Champs - yank-me's

message 45: by Larry (new)

1144499 Understood.

message 46: by Jim (new)

1668388 I didn't want to see it either, but Congrats to them.

message 47: by Misha (new)

2205814 I am not looking forward to the hacking cough stage of this cold, which should be striking about 9:43 a.m. today.

I am looking forward to the next six days off from work, and accomplishing lots of writing for NaNoWriMo.

I am also looking forward to cooking up a big pot of chicken soup with homemade noodles today. That should take a little bite out of this cold.

2074925 I am not looking forward to Christmas shopping. I love spending the holidays visiting family (well, most of my family - there are a couple of notable exceptions) and I would love to pick out the best gifts EVER for them, but something about trying to pick the right present makes me feel inadequate as a human being. Perhaps I'm being a bit melodramatic, but really I don't like trying to pick out gifts.

There was an article I was reading yesterday about the tremendous economic waste of Christmas shopping - specifically, the disconnect between what people would have bought and what was bought for them.
