2361637 Which is why i'm waiting.

416888 We've watched the first two episodes and we've all loved it (young teens too)... I should remember the original series, but don't think we watched it at my house (remember those days-- one TV and Dad calls all the shots-- which meant the NY Rangers from October to April).

Disappointed to hear it's just a four episode preview... hopefully it's watched enough to bring it back in the Spring.

2361637 Haven't watched it yet, thinking of waiting to see if it comes back after the first of the year.

1008237 Not sure how I feel about another "V".
I was in high school when the original came out. It was good for the first few episodes.
I remember we were all weirded out when the alien/human had sex with a human female and she got pregnant. The human female didnt know the aliens were actually reptilian and we were all glued to the TV during the "birthing" episode.

The new version of Battle Star Gallactica turned out to be superior to the original TV series, however the modern version was not done on network TV and they had much more freedom developing storylines. The new "V" is unfortunately on network tv.

2361637 I didn't know that about Mandy. I loved him in The Princess Bride, & on Criminal Minds.

1660443 Thanks.

In Alien Nation some were good, some bad...just like humans! I really enjoyed Mandy Patinkin on Alien Nation (the movie). He was James Caan's Alien partner.

1692287 They ate mice on the original V miniseries.

did the aliens eat mice? i've been trying to remember another series - one i always got mixed up with V. i'm thinking this might be it.

1660443 Vaguely. I saw some eps but wasn't home enough to follow it. If I'm not mistaken, weren't the Aliens good?

1660443 I didn't think the partner would be a V but I did know Ryan would be a 'good' V.
I like that the story moved quickly, gives me hope for this series.

message 22: by Holli (new)

622853 I didn't either Stacy or that the guy who was proposing was one too..... but a "good" V!

message 21: by Stacy (new)

1692287 I liked the new series; I was a fan of the original 80's miniseries. The old one was campy TV fun!

I liked the tie-in to some of the modern issues--terrorism and health care. I didn't predict Ericas's partner would be a V.

message 20: by Jackie (new)

1660443 I knew it had to do with the rating, but now I see it's really about the advertising. Kind of silly really, just because something is good in November, doesn't mean it'll be still be good later, LOL

Thank you both for answering my question.

message 19: by Allen (new)

623239 Sweeps is four months of the year(November, February, May and July) when nielsen collects extra viewing data, which then is used by broadcasters to set prices for advertising and schedule changes. The general perception is the higher the ratings during sweeps, the higher the revenue for the station.

message 18: by Lori (new)

2361637 I'm not Allen, but i believe Sweeps is all about the BENJAMINS. How much they can charge for ads. The bigger the ratings the bigger the bucks! At least i think that's right.

message 17: by Jackie (new)

1660443 Allen, I'm always hear about sweeps, what exactly does it mean? And why is it so important?

message 16: by Lori (new)

2361637 You said that right. And if we do get into it, that handfull of people who is the minority, they yank it out from under us! And that just sucks! ( i'm having a brain fart, i can't seem to stop saying sucks!)

message 15: by Jackie (new)

1660443 4 episodes isn't enough for people to hear about it, you got to get the buzz started first. Too much pressure on these new shows.

message 14: by Lori (last edited Nov 06, 2009 03:07PM) (new)

2361637 Yeah they say it will be back in February, but if it doesn't do good in 4 episodes, for sweeps, it may not be back.

message 13: by Allen (new)

623239 Its for sweeps.

message 12: by Jackie (new)

1660443 I hate when they do this, why can't they just show it all at once, in February?

message 11: by Myra (new)

1374822 I enjoyed the first episode, and I watched the original when it first was on. I thought this moved along at a much more satisfying pace than the first, and I like all of the actors involved. I read yesterday that there will be 4 episodes one right after another and then it will go away until February. I don't know if that will be good for the ratings or not. Four episodes might not be enough to get us good and hooked if something else comes along in the interim.

1660443 Sooz, that's just it, now that BSG had done what it did, I'm expecting it be like that, even though I know it's highly unliked. You're so right: "B.S.G. has spoilt me for life. sigh."

message 9: by Sooz (new)

1852000 when watching something like the original V, it's a good idea to keep it in context. it was the 80's. and it was network t.v.

ergo, the women have really big hair, Marc Singer wears tight jeans. the fight scenes are poorly choreographed, the special effects non-existant. plus, multi-episodic story arcs were in their infancy. shows like B.S.G. and The Wire, and Damages with complicated story lines that you actually had to pay attention to were unheard of. Dallas was as complicated as it got!

i'm hoping to be surprised (as in 'Wow. This series is WAAAAY better than i thought it would be!') but i wasn't overly impressed by the pilot. the characters seemed one-dimensional and there was none of the sharp dialogue that comes with good writers who expect their audience to be capable of figuring somethings out for themselves.

man, B.S.G. has spoilt me for life. sigh.

that said, i will continue to watch and hope that the writing gets better.

1660443 Holli, I didn't see the original, except for the little bit of the Siffy marathon, so I odn't really know much about it.
I definitely want to see it more of it. I don't mind romance and drama as long as it's not the whole show. I already have shows for that, ala Desperate Housewives and Grey's Anatomy, LOL

message 7: by Holli (new)

622853 Well that's what the original was mainly about if I remember correctly. It was more that kind of show......romance and drama.

I watched it last night and really liked it. I'm looking forward to seeing more!

message 6: by Jackie (new)

1660443 So very true, sadly. That's the exact reason why sci fi never works well on primetime network TV. I have high hopes for this show, but being it's network, it may not happen. They could easily kill it by bringing in the romance and drama. Which is probably what they'll do because that's what primetime network TV is all about: romance and drama.

message 5: by Allen (new)

623239 But Siffy has the ability to be a lot more creative than ABC. Broadcast wants viewers, millions of em, and they will do anything necessary to get them. Including driving critically acclaimed shows into the ground.

message 4: by Jackie (last edited Nov 04, 2009 03:31PM) (new)

1660443 Yesterday they ran a marathon of the original on Siffy and it was slow, after about a half hour I lost interest. I don't do slow, I have no patience for it.

I'm expecting mixed reviews of it, between the die hard original lovers to the new fans. Much like BSG how everyone swore it would never measure up to the original and now, after all is said and done, the original is a joke compared to the updated version.

message 3: by Holli (new)

622853 I loved the original... I was very young when it came out so it was one of those "not too sure of everything going on but this is a fun grown up show to watch"......

I've got this new one on the DVR to watch. I've got hogh hopes for it!

message 2: by Allen (new)

623239 I don't have too much hope for it. I am DLing all of the original to see how it measures up.

1660443 A remake of the 1983 TV series.

Giant spaceships appear over 29 major cities of the world, and Anna, the beautiful and charismatic leader of the extra-terrestrial "Visitors," claims to come in peace. As a small number of humans begin to doubt the sincerity of the seemingly benevolent Visitors, FBI counter-terrorism agent Erica Evans discovers that the aliens have spent decades infiltrating human governments and businesses, and are now in the final stages of their plan to take over the planet. Erica joins the resistance movement, which includes Ryan, a Visitor sleeper agent who wants to save humanity. However, the aliens have won favor among the people of Earth by curing a variety of diseases, and have recruited Earth's youth—including Erica's son—to serve them unknowingly as spies.

The first episode was very good, I can only hope it continues. However, I think the first mistake is in giving us only 4 episodes and we'll have to wait til March for the rest.
