642041 Have you seen the film version?

Were there parts that you liked?

Parts you missed from the book?

I thought it was well handled overall, and that all of the actors were well chosen for their roles.

1456113 I just got the movie from the library and am planning to watch it this weekend. I am a little disappointed that at the outset it seems as though her real name is known, which of course was one of the great mysteries in the book.

2493714 I was so excited my library had the DVD, I watched it a few weeks ago. :)

I was most surprised that I found the ceremony/"rape" scene to somehow be less horrific than in the book. I'm not sure if it was because I was prepared for it, or if the scene really was worse in the book.

*** major movie spoilers below***
I wasn't surprised they changed the ending so radically, but I really loved the end & epilogue of the book.

Oh, and Offred killing the commander?! What a surprise! I cheered for her.

2045970 I like the movie and don't mind the changes, but I remember the first time I watched it I was quite unhappy. The second time around I had already reconciled myself to the changes and was then able to enjoy it.

946346 Haven't seen the movie, but my wife was disappointed in it. She said, "They... tried." Apparently it was nothing like she'd pictured from reading the book.

1456113 It was okay, and I think "they tried" is a pretty accurate description. I wouldn't say it was bad, but I feel like they really softened the message for the general public, which took away from the story.
