I'm reading old novels that were turned into movies, mostly from the 70's maybe, then renting them on Netflix. Not sure if I like the movie or the book better.... Whoa!
I'm going to have to get Hell House and read it on down, with all these good reviews. I didn't read I Am Legend until a few months ago and thought it was great. The book I have also had another story of Matheson's afterward that was good but not as strong. Had no idea Legend of Hell House the movie was based on a Matheson story. Liked that movie, way back when.
Mine, too...but you probably already saw my earlier post. Loved this book! I'll have to check out the film....
This is my favorite Richard Matheson book. I devoured it when I first bought it. Scared me silly, too. ;)It's a pretty kick ass movie as well. Rent "The Legend Of Hell House" sometime. I first saw it when I was a kid, and it made quite an impression. Roddy MacDowell did a great job in it.
I read it last month. It was fantastic. Had a very classic take on the genre - or maybe it was the classic. I could certainly see a lot of other horror flicks & stories getting their ideas from it.
I read this novel earlier this year and loved it! In fact, I think I liked this better than I Am Legend.
This month, our common read (for anyone who wants to take part --no compulsion! :-)) is Hell House, by Richard Matheson, a veteran author of the macabre.
In the current edition of Library Journal, staff writer Neal Wyatt features Hell House and a few other novels in an article on haunted-house fiction. He says, in part, "Once the site of unspeakable horror, Belasco House has wreaked havoc on all who have tried to uncover its secrets, but four investigators still venture in...." In his estimation, it "moves beyond spooky for a seething creepiness that mutates very quickly into fear and revulsion.... the novel stirs up a velocity of terror and wraps readers in a cinematic nightmare of gore." Enjoy! :-)
