wowow thank you all so much i've got a reet big list of stuff to check out now! especially the PC Cast - they sound really interesting.

These are awesome and all have to do with some sort of greek mythology. Warrior Rising was my favorite. The newer reprints have saucier covers, but they're just as good.
You're right Shomeret. Lavinia takes place after the Trojan War but before the founding of Rome. It came out last year and several mainstream book critics put on their ten best lists. Maybe it won some awards?
Temping Fate is YA urban fantasy.
The Firebrand is 20+ years old historical fantasy with a feminist slant. It's very good!
American Gods and/ or Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman are gods from many mythologies battling it and very, very good.
I haven't read Goddess of the Sea by P.C. Cast, butGoddess of the Rose was the first book I read by her, and I was impressed enough to buy more of her books. It's a very unusual take on the Goddess Hecate. From a Greek mythology perspective, my favorite Sherrilyn Kenyon books are Fantasy Lover, the first Dark Hunter novel, and Acheron.
Re Lavinia taking place before there was a Greece-- Actually, it takes place before there was a Rome. Lavinia is post-Trojan War, so there was definitely a Mycenaean Greece.

The Firebrand by Marion Zimmer Bradley is the fall of Tro..."It's historical fantasy, not urban fanstasy. I don't think there was urban fantasy as a subgenre when it was written.
yes, i think you are right. i got several of the titles from a site about titles previously shelved as mythology and now have lumped them in a large mixed genre basket "Urban fantasy-Paranormal romance". i haven't read them, so i cannot vouch for them in the way of "the proper" categorization. Sounds like you are much more familiar with that than I.
Temping Fate by Esther Friesner is a sweet little YA novel that takes place in the present sort of, with another in the series, I think.
The Firebrand by Marion Zimmer Bradley is the fall of Troy from the point of view of the women, with a lot of gods, goddesses and others. It's historical fantasy, not urban fanstasy. I don't think there was urban fantasy as a subgenre when it was written.
Lavinia by Ursula K. LeGuin is very good, but takes place before there was a Greece!

I love Kelly McCullough's Webmage series, smart and fun, a great way to bring the gods into the modern world. Gods Behaving Badly by Marie Phillips is cute. There's a YA series by Anne Ursu that's also cute. Dan Simmon's Ilium and Olympos are very smart and good, maybe a little more sci-fi though. And Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson series is among my very favorites ever; YA but all of the adults I know who've read it just love it too (movie 1 out 2010!).
I was interested to see what was out there that combined Greek mythology and UF-PNR--then I got a little obsessed because I started finding a lot of books :-). I found the following and they have pretty good reviews:
American Gods, Neverwhere A Novel, Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman sounds like it is old and new gods fighting mythic creatures in subterranean London--sounds more Urban Fantasy than PNR--probably not 100% what you are looking for but maybe close? or maybe--Norse Code, The Night Life of the Gods
Goddess of the Sea by P.C. Cast has references to mythology. this is the first book in a series of 6 or 7.
Roberta Gellis has a series that looks to be Urban Fantasy Romance/Greek Mythology the books in the series include:
This one looks really cute:
A few YA options might be: Radiant Darkness, Pandora Gets Jealous by Carolyn Hennesy--there are several more in this series. The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan-- it looks like there are 5 more in this series. Temping Fate, Quiver, The Firebrand
These are about Helen of Sparta
---------
Check out these authors, they seem to have a lot of books similiar to what you might be looking for: Esther M. Friesner, Sherrilyn Kenyon
Leanne,
Must Love Hellhounds has a novella with Andrea and Raphael by Ilona Andrews called Magic Mourns with a Greek mythology thing going on.
Kelly McCullough writes a fantsy series that is a combination of Greek mythology and computers. The first book in the series is Webmage.
Oh, and I HIGHLY recommend reading them in order. If you are interested I can help find you the reading order. Just let me know. That is if you haven't yet read them hehe.
Well the only one I can think of would be Sherrilyn Kenyon and her Dark-Hunter series. Its PR, so each book has a HEA... but there is SO much story and plot involved that plays out not only in each book but it also builds from book to book.
Her world and story is built with characters from mythology such as Artemis and Apollo and I believe she does a wonderful job incorporating her own touch to it.
I know you asked for UF but I think you would enjoy these. Plus side: There are A TON of books lol, so running out soon is not an issue :P
