Hey Alisha, I actually don't play any online strategy games! I have a few gamer friends who I meet up with for a game of chess online. Other than that I do most of the strategy games like Risk or diplomacy in real life.

there are a few RTS games that I don't play like Warcraft 3 and I am looking forward to starcraft 2. Do you have any recommendations?

I think the only way to earn fv$ is to level up or actually spend real cash to get it. No way I'm doing that. You can expand your farm by having more neighbors and then spending coins (about 20,000). I have lots of friends on fb, but only 11 of them are my neighbors, and I would like to expand, too. I like how farmville added the flower ribbons and the mastery stars. If you want to be my neighbor, send me a personal message!

I play Farmville...I'm getting a little tired of it. How do you earn $'s? That's what keeps me coming back for more! haha! I want EXPAND MY FARM! LOL!

Bejeweled is also ridiculously addicting. I waste soooo much time with that one.

1184842 our kids have had a DS for a few years now, and for that reason i've always looked at the DS as a "kids" platform, not picking it up myself. Weird, eh?

that's ok mandy sue. i had ALOT of patience and encouragement and time put into me from the hubby. now it's become kind of a common hobby we have. it's nice. :)

message 23: by Mandy Sue (new)

1410084 I tried becoming a gamer but sadly since it became more difficult then Super Mario Bros and Sonic..well...I am completely lost and *ahem* suck. I can't even figure out the facebook games.

message 22: by Peanut (new)

391295 I'm a faithful Nintendo DS user. Love the portability of it and if sales are going on at stores, I can get some good deals.

I was recently turned on to Farmville in Facebook. That kind of geekiness is right up my alley.

message 21: by Nadia (new)

1659938 AngieA, I play those same games on FB too! Its crazy how addicting they are. I'm also playing CafeTown (is that right?), Happy Aquarium and Super Pets. I've tried Mafia Wars but didn't like it so I gave up on it.

message 20: by AngieA (new)

1502451 I play Yoville, Farmville and Farm Town on FaceBook. They are addicting in that you have to come back every day to continue something like take sweets out of the oven or harvest a crop. I've been invited to games like Mafia Wars and such, but haven't really gotten into them. I run out of time now!

1184842 Hey Justine, I'm so curious... where did you hear of the Guild if you didn't play WoW?

Sadly I'm behind on season three. got to remedy that! And Animal Crossing. wow. that's another game that I simply can't play anymore. Played the GameCube version to death, but it was awesome while it lasted!

message 18: by Nadia (new)

1659938 I wish I were a gamer because it seems like such fun. The closest I am to a gamer is playing with my DS every once in awhile. Although when I babysit I do wind up playing on the Wii or PS2 and having a blast.

message 17: by Justine (new)

1577174 'The Guild' convinced me it was okay to play WoW, and I've been playing for a few months and it's taken over my life. I'm not really as ashamed about this as I thought I would be.
I play some xbox games (skate, fable 2) and some wii (Mario Galaxy, the lego games, Mad World) and I can hold my own in Rockband/Guitar Hero type games. I keep trying to play first person shooters (Left 4 Dead, Borderland, etc) but I'm terrible at them and get stuck in corners.
I'm about to take over my boyfriends DS and give my life over to Scribblenauts. When I owned a DS a few years ago my whole life was Animal Crossing.

Well, I like it so far! :) At the moment I'm still kinda low-level, so there isn't any PvP yet (you have to be in the 20s for that to start happening-- I just hit 18). But the flying is pretty cool and the controls are fairly intuitive (plus you can change them to whatever you want). But my favorite part is the Chaining system-- certain skills are only available following certain other skills. So you have opener skills for a fight, followed by a bunch of different paths you could choose after the opener. And the great part about it is-- you don't have to put the following skills in your action bar! Your original opener skill automatically flashes and becomes the chained skill. :)

(wow that was a lot more than I intended to say haha)

Surprisingly, I have never ever played WoW! I hear so many good things from people who play, but I just never jumped into it. :)

I'll have to take a look at "The Guild"-- I have heard of it but never watched.

message 15: by Tanja (new)

2342217 Season III of "The Guild" is frikkin hilarious!! I should buy the series to crack up more often.

I have a WoW account but I haven't played in years. Didn't touch Galaxies since I was into WoW. My brother is a big WoW player.

I do a lot of MUSHes though.

message 14: by Adrienne (new)

1184842 Ah, the days of Bejeweled. I was addicted to that around the time of the first Zuma. I played it so much Meg that I played myself right out of it. Someone actually made a version to play Bejeweled within World of Warcraft and that was the last I messed with it.

Amanda, I agree with AJ. I wish I could drop MMO's at need and come back to them when I want. Good for you!

and AJ, totally second your concerns about the graphics in the Star Wars MMO. Blizzard has done a superb job in the way you describe that has let their game live for so long. Yeap, he played/tried Galaxies but it was no good. Yes also to having played Baldur's Gate, we went through both of them on the Xbox. Chess on steroids... oh gracious. Now I'm intimidated.

message 13: by Meg (new)

772262 I am addicted to bejeweled as well. Friend me on facebook we can race each other to the top.

message 12: by AJ (new)

2810793 Hey Amanda, having balance is a great thing! I wish I could do that - I envy your play/life style.

So what are your thoughts on Aion, would you recommend? It incorporates flying around and mid air battles, right?

message 11: by Amanda (JT) (new)

2641450 I am more of a web-gamer these days, but my significant other is always playing the latest XBox 360 games. ;) So I watch pretty much EVERYTHING even though I am busy doing other things and not having much time to participate!

He is playing Borderlands right now and it's *awesome*-- definitely pick it up when get the chance!

I am also on-again/off-again playing Warhammer: Age of Reckoning (WAR MMO) and the new Aion MMO. But I am not very good at consistently playing. :P I haven't played Aion in a couple of weeks, for example! Just too much going on in my non-game life. haha.

message 10: by AJ (new)

2810793 Hey Meg! I'm addicted to bejeweled =).

Adrienne -

Yeah, sounds like we have a lot to discuss gaming wise. D&D "room" will need to occur. Thanks for adding my blog =). The star wars MMO is being developed by Bioware who did Knights of the Old Republic (original xbox game) which was fantastic and of course they did Mass Effect. I'm concerned about the graphics as i am in all MMO's -- Blizzard did a great job b/c the cartoon aspect was decent but still crisp and not at all unbelievable When you add a few human looking elements but the background still looks fake it ruins the whole game. I just don't know if they'll be able to do the characters correctly (Age of Conan was such a let down!) I will be trying it out though. Did your husband play Galaxies?

And mad props to you for learning to be an FPS'er - I am not very good at it at all, I'll always opt for a sword over a gun!

If you have played Baldur's gate or Neverwinternights (also bioware games) you'll get a good feel for D&D. The in person roleplaying is usually the hardest adjustment for people but the tabletop battle strategy is really fun. It's like playing chess on steroids.

1184842 We have fun on the Wii too, Meg! Mario Kart and Super Mario Galaxy were ones I liked alot. We just rented Mario & Sonic @ the Olympic Winter Games and it's a fun family game. I would have gotten Wii Fit long time ago, but our living room is just too small.

message 8: by Meg (new)

772262 I am just into wii at the moment. I do play a lot of online games(like on facebook).

message 7: by Adrienne (new)

1184842 you have to tell me where to start with D&D that's the thing. lol, maybe we should "get a room" so to speak.

and oh yes, i watch the guild. ever since the beginning. came over to goodreads for the exact same reason too, though i had been hoping and looking for something like this wonderful thing called goodreads for a long long time.

message 6: by Adrienne (new)

1184842 You are right, challenge is good. Learning to play FPS's was a huge learning curve for me but now I LOVE them. Well, when they don't include chainsaws. I'll try it again one day when I have an extra dose of patience.

I was Ally! nyah, nyah. Night elf druid tree, that's me. Started a blood elf mage when they became available to play with The Instance guys on their server but things just um never took off somehow. We did try Runes of Magic, but it didn't keep our attention. Hubby is all excited about the new Star Wars MMO, so I'll have to try that with him after dragging his butt all over Azeroth and into more raids than he cares to remember.

Mass Effect. Check. besides my bro assumed I had played it and informed me that he's ordering me the sequel for Christmas. ha!

love to say this now... i like being a geek! it's fun!

ps. your blog has been added to our chick blog list. :)

message 5: by AJ (new)

2810793 Oh, btw - do you watch "The Guild?" I think if you haven't you should check it out - it's a web based show about gamers created by Felicia Day. It was Felicia's recommendation of Goodreads that brought me over here.

message 4: by AJ (last edited Oct 27, 2009 04:51AM) (new)

2810793 Hey! I'm about to log off but wanted to respond before I did on Mirror's edge - that jump is so annoying - but my problelm was falling off the wood plank balance walk which made me put the game down. Then I watched my bf do it successfully (he's a FPS'er) and I got back into it with a little guidance. It does take patience though =). The game is worth the initial struggle though b/c you feel really good about yourself when you rock out a level. Ha!

Yeah, I'm a sucker for a MMO - also a recovering WoW Addict (horde, priest. You weren't ally were you? ;p). I've been told to stay away from AION which means it is pretty good. Check it out at your own risk =)

I highly encourage you to check out mass effect -- i think that's my favorite game of all time. Bioware did such an amazing job. Sounds like you have quite the queue of games though before you get to it.

I'll save the D&D tangent for another time, b/c I could go on for hours about it. But if you ever have any questions/etc just let me know. Would love to discuss. Looking forward to more gamer grrl geekout!

message 3: by Adrienne (new)

1184842 Someone answered me!!! Squee!

So nice to meet you AJ. I've um... added you everywhere. hehe

I have yet to try D&D, but it's next on the list. We've been having a blast with a tabletop game called Carcassone and all of it's expansions and variations. We were tipped off to it by the xbox arcarde version, of course.

We used to pc game and I was totally addicted - I'll admit it - to WoW for several years and have now tried to move strictly to console games since they fit into my life better. The MMOs tend to take over. The only exception I plan to make to that rule is for Diablo III when it comes out. Oh, and there's always Zuma II that I am trying to beat. /facepalm

Sadly our 360 has to go in for repairs so I'll miss those releases too until it comes back. The first Mass Effect is still on my to-play list, Crash is something we play with the kids, but I couldn't get through the tutorial of Mirror's Edge. That jump from the zipline was brutal. Hopefully after the repair, ODST will work for us as I miss taking out the evil Covenant.

Too funny. Can't wait till you get home to Boston!

2810793 Hi there, yes, I'm a proud gamer. =)

I'm living abroad at the moment but when home I play either xbox or PC games. I also tabletop game - D&D, convoluted board games like cosmic encounters, strategy games, etc) Because I pc game I usually do that with my online gaming friends and I do not have the xbox gold membership but I might splurge when I get home. I have a lot of friends who do both and I miss doing team zombie killing.

I am so sad I'm missing borderlands and dragonage releases! I hope to get home before Mass Effect 2 release!! I could not get into Viva Pinata. I did resort to buying crash bandicott. Not sure if you played Mirror's Edge but it's one of my favorites.

My handle is Ziah612 -- i'll add you when i get back.

1184842 when i'm not reading, sleeping, cooking, working or blogging (LOL) my husband and i love to play on our Xbox 360. my handle is Kalanna. any girl gamers out there?

i've been debating on whether to upgrade my silver account to a gold one, and some friends of my own that aren't my hubby's buds would be a very good incentive!

we had a great time with Beatles: Rock Band and are looking forward to trying Borderlands and the new Dragon Age. i'm also quite addicted to Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise. hehe

send me a friend request if you use Xbox Live!
