Hi Caylyn, so are you reading the actual book book or just trying to read the graphic novel?? I am on book 12 of the anita blake series and the first one is a bit hard to get through but if you can get thru it they get better! I have a love hate relationship with this series I love it for the most part but Anita can get rather annoying but I'm so in love with the other characters that I can't stop reading the series.... Not sure if that helps at all but just thought I'd give my two cents. I also did read her Merry Gentry series and of the two I think that one is my favorite....

944452 I think the terrible movie adaptation may have helped make the books seem not so appealing...

2857113 Yay~ I had no idea there were so many Eragon haters until I registered at this site. It was pretty shocking for me because I love the series so much. Can't wait to read the conclusion to it.

message 33: by Jessie (new)

944452 Lazuline, I LOVED all the Eragon books you are not alone!!!!

message 32: by Lazuline (new)

2857113 Books I couldn't put down:

Thirteen Reasons Why This book is very depressing and sweet and heartbreaking. I can see why some people might not like it, but I would give it a try anyway. It gives you an entirely new perspective of looking at the world around you.

Nineteen Minutes Again, a very serious and depressing book. It deals with a high school shooting and about who, if anyone, has the right to judge someone else. Shocking conclusion, etc.

Twenty Boy Summer A book about learning to move on and respecting the past.

Okay, so those first 3 titles are heavy reads, but the rest aren't, I promise. XD

Eragon (Inheritance, #1) I could NOT put this book down. Tons of people hate it, but I thought it was pure genius.

The Luxe (Luxe, #1) Stunning fashion, scandalous gossip, ruining rumors, dangerous envy, smexy gentlemen, forbidden love, elegant dresses, historical facts...need I say more?

The Angel Experiment (Maximum Ride, #1) I don't know why I love this series so much. I just do. I love it because I enjoyed reading it and that's a good enough reason for me and that's why I'm going to recommend it to you. I hope you can find something among these titles that you like. ;)

I've read the Host and it is a REALLY good book and is def. not like Twilight but i also didn't see it so much as an "Adult novel"

Ok now i really want to read Fever series.Same thing that happened to you with the Fever happened to me with the Night huntress! So since i finished it I've been debating whether to read Darkfever or not but now i'm sure i want to read it.I guess i'll have to order it since i can't find it to any bookstore here.

message 26: by Lara (new)

1981392 ohhh Anna, definitely read! - I am SO hooked on the Fever Series! I enjoyed it so much that it has been ruining anything I've been reading since. The Night Huntress Series was suggested by some people on here and it has filled that spot best while I wait for the next Fever book.

To me it is fairly similar > lead girl with spunk, a mouth, kicking ass, and men all around her :). Lead guy also with a mouth, kicking ass - completely drool worthy (to me at least). Like I said I wish I had read the Night Huntress series 1st because I am really liking them - but at the same time missing reading about Mac and Barrons and its keeping me from really getting into them. I think the 1st book in the series started a bit slow, but by the end of it I was hooked and couldn't put it or the rest of the series down. Let me know what you think :)!

I can't agree more with you Lara!Haven't still read the Fever series but i'm seriously considering of beggining reading it as soon as i'll be able to find those books! Are they anything like the Light Huntress series cuase this one is definetely one of my favourite. All the other series you mention are really good!

message 24: by Lara (new)

1981392 Hey Caylyn!

I would definitely second Kelleigh's choices. The Fever Series has been my favorite since I've read them and am dying for the next to come out. I'm reading the Jeanine Frost Night Huntress series now and am really liking it > I feel if I had read it before the Fever Series I would be absolutely loving it - but right now I'm still stuck on Barrons and Mac (the Fever series).

If you like a little less of the battling and more of the loving you may want to give the Black Dagger Brotherhood a shot. I didn't care for them as much just because it was less action and more character based, but if you're into that you should love them. Everybody else seems to!

Another of my favorites was the Mortal Instruments Trilogy. I devoured those books - walked around the house with them to my nose :). If you enjoyed VA and the HON novels - you would probably love the Mort. Inst. as well. Good luck!

2864764 I really enjoy the Anita Blake series, but, at least the first books in the series, falls more into the urban fantasy genre than paranormal romance. The romance is there if you keep going, but I liked the series from the beginning. So many fun characters to meet and enjoy. You might like Hamilton's other series a little more, the Meredith Gentry series. It falls much more into the pnr category than Anita does.

My favorites:
Dangerous Angels The Weetzie Bat Books
Pride and Prejudice
Fantasy Lover (first in the Dark Hunter series)
Dark Lover
War for the Oaks
A Kiss of Shadows (Meredith Gentry, #1)

Good--glad those books interest you. I noticed that I made a mistake and told you that One Foot in the Grave was book #1 of that series and it is actually book #2. You will want to start with Halfway to the Grave.

I love this online shelving too. I read so much--I forget half the stuff I read and can't remember what I thought about it when people ask me for suggestions. I love this site.

Also, I noticed that you reading Bloodlust. How do you like it? I have it from the library right now and trying to decide what to read next.

Cherra, Need is actually not a standalone. There's a sequel coming out, which I was happy to find out, since there was a whopping big question of what will happen to a certain establishment in the woods, if you catch my meaning, LOL.

1869293 Hello Caylyn! I tried to read the Anita Blake Series as well but I couldn't finish the first book. I'm going to put it back on the shelf for a while until I'm up to giving it another shot. In the mean time I would highly suggest you read the following!

Charlaine Harris

Jeaniene Frost

Karen Marie Moning

Charlaine Harris - The Sookie Stackhouse Series - Amazing! I'm sure you've heard of these, since there is a show on HBO about it now called True Blood. This series has so much to bring to the table, not to mention sexy vamps!

Jeaniene Frost - The Night Huntress Series - I really loved this series. The first book in the series had a bit of fbs (first book syndrome) But it had an amazing storyline nonetheless. Very addictive and fresh in my opinion. More vamps in this one, and actually the heroine is half vamp :)

Last but definitely not least is my favorite series by Karen Marie Moning - The fever series. This series brings us into a whole world of Fae. There is one vamp in it, but trust me, this is a MUST read!

Hope this helps!

2024916 I can't say for sure, but Blood Promise is definitely in my top 5.

message 1: by Caylyn (new)

2860315 Ok, so as most know. I'm new to Goodreads, looking for friends and wanting some insight. I just finish reading Blood Promise by Richelle Mead. I have totally fallen in love with those books! I like the whole Vampire/Forbidden love thing that Richelle has going on in the VA books. Since that was my last read, I am looking for a really good book to read. I'm currently reading Anita Blake series. I've decided its not my usual type of book and im TRYING to hang in there but it's REALLY hard. So i was looking for input. What is your ALL time favorite book. One you want to have on your shelf for your kids or grand kids to read. A book that you can't put down, once you pick it
up. I will keep trying with Anita Blake but it really isn't working. I don't want books that were "ok" i want books that were AWESOME! Any ideas?

Thanks!

Caylyn
