1518370 What are some of the most powerful love stories in books that you have read/Favorite love stories in books/greatest love stories of all times in books?

2158222 I like the love story within The Time Traveler's Wife. Great love story. I'm sure Gone With The Wind is a very class, all time love story.

I find something about love stories in books so much more powerful than in movies.

1524777 Not going to lie..although weird and twisted..I slightly loved the love story in Twilight.

2302019 I really liked the love story in Never Let Me Go, even though it was more about opportunity missed than love had.

The multiple interwoven love stories in Possession A Romance were wonderful, especially since they were mixed with history, mystery, and suspense.

The thing about those two books is that the love is very believable. That makes it much more powerful to me.

1769862 I don't think there is a better love story in all of literature than the one in Gone With The Wind. I mean, it IS called the "Greatest love story of all time."

The love story in Love in the Time of Cholera is pretty good. I'll keep thinking.

2380713 The Notebook.

But I have to admit I've never actually read the book, just watched the movie. I would think the love story would be a strong element in the book though. If anyone has read the book let me know if I'm way off base or not.

1518370 I really need to get on reading Gone With The Wind. I remember trying to read it when I was really little because it was at my grandmother's house but I was too young.

1843983 Em... theres a few..Jane Eyre- classic! As is Wuthering Heights. I'm not going to spoil it for anyone unless they haven't read the books, but the love story in The Amber Spyglass really moved me. Oh, and of course Romeo and Juliet!

2391692 The Outlander series. The love story between Jamie and Claire is just epic.

Also, Pride and Prejudice!

And I know this isn't exactly a book, but... The Beauty and the Beast. I love that story, and I have a nice illustrated kids book of it.

And Jen, I'm in the same boat as you - I've seen The Notebook but haven't read it. Plan to. But the love between that couple was just so endearing!

2302019 Oh yes, The Amber Spyglass indeed.

Also there was also a good one towards the end of Ptolemy's Gate.

2694335 Gone with the Wind and Pride and Prejudice are favorites. I also really liked The Great Gatsby and Here on Earth. Funnily enough, P&P is the only one of these books that ended happily.

I also highly recommend Whitegirl by Kate Manning. Though it's not necessarily a romance, it's a page-turning story about an interracial couple. This story also ends tragically. I just thought I'd warn you.

message 12: by Kayla (new)

2694335 Oh, and I forgot to mention Where the Heart Is!

message 13: by Lori, The Over-Caffeinated Coffee Girl (new)

1769862 And I forgot Dominique and Roark in The Fountainhead!

message 14: by Tahleen (new)

1868279 Haha I disliked The Fountainhead, as well as Dominique and Roark... but I think I am in a minority.

I love P&P as well, but I think the love story in Emma is just as good!

2404656 Great Expectations, even though it's unrequited and there's more to the story than that. Beautiful, but then again I might be biased, since it's my favourite book.

message 16: by Kayla (new)

2694335 Lori, I love the Fountainhead!! Roark is actually one of my "book crushes".

Beautiful? I've never heard of that before. Who is it by? I'll have to look it up.

message 18: by Bárbara (new)

2404656 I was still referring to Great Expectations, by Dickens :)

.... Don't mind me. Sometimes I'm retarded.

message 20: by Bárbara (new)

2404656 Haha, it's ok! I got a little confused as well, especially since it's nearly 3am in here.

message 21: by Tahleen (new)

1868279 I just laughed really hard.

1769862 Kayla, I know what you mean. I tend to go for that kind of guy...rugged, independent, a bit of an ass.

I've read the book, it's a strong element in the book as well. And it's so sad! The book made me cry even more than the movie.

And of course P&P and Emma.

1769862 One of my professors mentioned this story called Layla and Majnun, which is like a Middle Eastern version of Romeo and Juliet (and it precedes R&J). It sounded sooooo good. I went on a hunt for it and can only find it on Amazon, but I don't know which translation to get. He's supposed to check into it for me.
