i'm finishing the sixth book of a science fiction series.

has anyone ever simultaneously released an entire saga all at once? good bad? too much too soon?

what's the largest series that's been released in its entirety at once?

Neal Stephenson released 3 book in one years....

2. The Confusion (2004)
3. The System of the World (2004)...about a year real time!!!

I think writing a whole series in its entirety before releasing is a very good idea in order to cross-pollinate between books. But I don't see how you can release them all at once. The amount of work it takes to get just one book out is extensive so to try and coordinate multiple books at the same time I would not even attempt. Two books a year seems to be the most aggressive schedule I can think of.

I write fantasy rather tha SF but I can understand doing this. I wrote my story in 3 books and had to finish it all, at least in draft form, before sending the first out to publishers because I had this story I wanted to get out. I thought if the first was not accepted I would not want to continue writing it. Fortunately the first was published in January, my second is in production, and I have ideas for 4, 5 and 6! I can write a lot in a year but the actual production process is a lot slower... particularly during a mail strike!

I wrote a story that I happened to divide into three parts. I had no intention of dividing the book into three and I certainly hope I don't have to but I've been told that it's too long to publish all in one. I'm told that it's a binding issue. It's the last book I've finished and therefore far down on the list for promotion.
