Sorry RA, I missed this before. Um, I think it closes early because there's a huge drop in attendence after Labor Day when the summer visitors go back to the city and there isn't a big enough group of locals who will come out and keep it going. The Union Square market goes year round so clearly its not a matter of not having things to sell, but its kind of disheartening if you haul your stuff to the site and set up the stall and nobody shows up.

I think for a lot of people the Farmers Market is still an entertainment more than real shopping. Also after the weather gets bad I guess the motivation to go to an outdoor market declines. Although again, Union Square is outdoors and year round. Maybe you need a really big population to make it work.

Or just time. It gets bigger and runs longer every year.

721021 Apparently there's a winter farmers market in Milwaukee that takes place indoors...

http://www.jsonline.com/news/milwaukee/6...

Might check it out Saturday...

1757741 we have a reasonably large mennonite/amish contingency in our area so we get produce and farm products really late in the year. we are still digging sweet potato's from our garden but have let all tomato's and peppers rot since we are sick of them

747169 Mine closed on Columbus Day week, but that's good, because its two weeks later than last year, and three weeks later than the year before. I guess people are getting into the idea. Of course it seems crazy to me that the market closes when there are still things being harvested, but I guess not enough people will come to the market after it gets cold.

So the farmers will be going to the big market in NYC Union Square through the winter. It grows three miles away but I'd have to travel ninety to buy it. Seems silly, but there it is.

1144499 Omaha's est finis in mid-October. Sadly, I let the summer go by without going very much. Walked by a lot -- but didn't stop to shop. What's that saying about not appreciating the well until it goes dry?

289556 That's too bad, RA. The Tumwater one had its last day this week, but the big one in Olympia stays open through Christmas. I always do some Christmas shopping there.

721021 The local farmers markets are done for the season. Bummer.

1757741 Sher and i have much in common

1639357 Ew.

1144499 Poleaxed. Yup, that's the word for it. *quickly googles poleaxed*
To strike or fell with or as if with a poleax: "When a gang of doves circled above the flowing water and swooped in to feed, he poleaxed the leader with a clean head shot" (William Hoffman).

747169 You didn't even see the outfit, did you? You were just poleaxed by the assets.

Head? There was a head?

1639357 My guilty snack used to be Cookie Crisp cereal, chocolate chip variety. Oh man, these were heaven to inhale at midnight. Now I'm stuck with Flax puffs and fiber sticks (yes, they really call them fiber sticks).

And yes, I too miss slurping the chocolate sludge at the bottom of the bowl.

message 29: by RandomAnthony (new)

721021 Heh. I wonder how the hat stays on her head. Must be a string...

message 28: by Larry (new)

1144499 I see it now. Yup. It's stupid.

289556 Not what I'd call a real hat, but yes, there was a hat, Larry.

1144499 What hat? There was a hat?

message 25: by BunWat (new)

747169 Really really.

289556 Oh, come on. That's a stupid hat.

message 23: by Larry (new)

1144499 Yeah -- I like yours better.

They're magically delicious!

message 20: by RandomAnthony (new)

721021 Quisp was gross, I agree.

Cinnamon Chex rules. And Count Chocula. And Captain Crunch in small doses.

Fruit Loops are overrated, though, except on ice cream.

I love raisin bran, too, but said raisin bran has to be of high-quality...

1757741 what about Quisp? anyone remember that? or King Vitamin cereal? that was about as sweet as you could get. they both got soggy too quick. i want a big bowl of count chocula and then slurp the brown sludge from the bottom when i am finished.

966475 Mmmmm Lucky Charms.

message 17: by tadpole (new)

1033675 I can't believe that guy wasn't chasing his own head down the road after that...

Kevin: Have you eaten Lucky Charms lately? The missus and I bought some awhile back after having not eaten them for a very long time and it seems that they snuck around and made them more healthy when we weren't looking. The marshmallows were still great, but the rest of it tasted like cardboard. BOO, General Mills, BOO!

message 16: by RandomAnthony (new)

721021 I imagine this was a minor tragedy for this guy.

I, on the other hand, was happy to see the horse take control of the situation.

1757741 i like honey bunches of oats the best but i would take a barrel O lucky charms. i suppose the prize in a barrel of cereal would be like a catchers glove or a full size flutophone

message 14: by BunWat (new)

747169 Do you get more than one toy surprise in a 55 gallon drum? Because if you don't that seems like kind of a ripoff.

message 13: by Gus (new)

1047204 What kind of cereal, Kevin? Hopefully something with tons of sugar and a toy surprise.

1757741 and i am buying a 55 gallon drum of cereal from sam's club

message 11: by Gus (new)

1047204 I made the false assumption that I had more Grey Goose than I actually did.

Looks like I'll be making a liquor store run this weekend, because I will never let this happen again.

message 10: by Larry (new)

1144499 Sounds like an inventory management problem to me.

message 9: by RandomAnthony (new)

721021 How did you let that happen, Gus???

message 8: by Gus (new)

1047204 A minor tragedy for me occurred the other night when I ran out of Grey Goose vodka. THE HORROR!

I hate when that happens. But for me it would be instant oatmeal.

message 6: by Jim (new)

1668388 Hope it doesn't ruin the rest of your day Kevin.

966475 I was sure that this thread was going to be about how I couldn't update the thread titles and categories anymore, but I see that's been fixed. So I promptly put this in a category.

message 2: by Cosmic Sher (new)

1639357 Well damn. What's this world coming to?

Actually, I haven't watched this show yet... worth watching I assume?
