1448151 Oh, I am gonna go check that out now! :P

message 89: by Jerrod (new)

1302171 Wolfman does show some promise, probably more than CoT because of it's director, I'd forgotten about the Wolfman remake. They've got a trailer online for the new Clash of the Titans.

message 88: by Chris (new)

1448151 Wow, really...they are remaking CotT? Hmmm... Personally, I am really looking forward to The Wolfman remake (well, of sorts)...looks great!

message 87: by Jerrod (new)

1302171 the only remake I am even remotely looking forward too is Clash of the Titans. And that's only because I love the story. The classic will always be grade A to me though.

message 86: by Chris (new)

1448151 And they probably will...have faith in them, Jerrod! ;)

message 85: by Jerrod (new)

1302171 How could we forget The Crow! It takes place around halloween! Lets hope they don't botch the re-launching of the series either.

45128 An American Werewolf in London, of course, Dracula (multiple versions), Halloween, When a Stranger Calls

Nope. The Cottage is a british horror/comedy. I found it a bit hit and miss but it is really funny at times. It's worth a watch.

message 82: by Tressa, Moana Lisa (new)

226335 I liked Trick 'R Treat too, Scott. I started a thread on it in the movie section here listing what I liked about it. There were some nifty surprised in it.

message 81: by Scott (new)

732181 I watched Trick 'r Treat last night and really liked it.

1448151 Is that the same The Cottage, the James Herbert novel?

just bumped The Cottage up on the list, and, carl, my husband will probably be equally as disgruntled as your wife. he may just have to go fishing

Man, The Cottage was WILD stuff!!! For the first 45 minutes or so I was thinking "gee...my wife would love this", then they got to the farm house!!! LOL!!! From that point on, my wife would absolutely hate that movie. I loved the whole thing though.

message 77: by Chris (last edited 24 days ago, 05:01AM) (new)

1448151 Changeling was a good one, too. I'll have to look for Severance, Kelly!

man. The Changling scared the hell out of me as a kid. i don't think i made it to the end of that movie until i was well into my teens. i do love me some George C Scott

822432 Kelly, that movie sounds like "Last House On The Left".

message 72: by Scott (new)

732181 Severance was good. There's another British horror with a similar tone called The Cottage which I also liked.

message 71: by Kelly (new)

2856605 hey guys, speaking of horror with a splash of humor Severance was great. also, whats the one about the serial kidnapper/ killer thats caught and tortured by the parents? i loved that one, Otis, was it?

message 70: by Elizabeth (new)

822432 I didn't know it was a novel. I just knew when I read about the subject matter and that it had great reviews I had to see it. "Teeth" is very dark and disturbing but kinda funny too.

message 69: by Chris (new)

1448151 Really? Teeth is also an Edo Van Belkom horror novel, quite erotic, about the same topic. Yikes! Talk about a book with, um, bite! Sorry..couldn't resist...lol

message 68: by Elizabeth (new)

822432 "Fido" is a riot. I absolutely loved it. I've never heard of "Feast". Yet another movie to add to my Blockbuster queue.

My favorite horror comedy is "Dead/Alive". It was a test for my husband when I first met him. I told him that if he couldn't sit through that movie, that we were not meant to be together. Now we watch it every anniversary of the day we met. We've been together for thirteen years.

Has anyone here seen "Teeth"? It's a dark story about a teenaged girl born with vagina dentata. Not really a horror film but quite different from most movies I've seen.

message 67: by Carl (new)

2339201 Slither is great fun! I also recommend the first FEAST, but you need a strong stomach.
I have FIDO on my too watch pile.

message 66: by Chris (new)

1448151 Dead/Alive and Toxic Avenger I haven't seen, although I am familiar with them. Yeah, I watched The Haunting the other night on AMC, on Halloween...and of course, Night of the Living Dead. In fact, I also watched Halloween, the original...one of my favs, too.

I'll have to look for Fido. One horror comedy I really want to see is Slither.

message 65: by Elizabeth (new)

822432 Chris, which ones haven't you seen? "Shaun Of The Dead", "Dead/Alive", "The Toxic Avenger", and "Fido" are horror dark comedies. My favorite of the bunch is "Dead/Alive", which was directed by Peter Jackson before "Lord Of The Rings". "Fido" is fairly new. It's a riff on zombies.

I just watched the original "The Haunting" a few nights ago. The book is wonderful. It's my favorite haunted house book.

Great list, Elizabeth, and there's a few on there I haven't seen.

Yeah, the original The Haunting is one of my favorites.

Yes, yes, John Carpenter IS the MAN. I really wish he got to do the western he always wanted to though.

Fido

The Haunting (original, not that horrid remake)
The Devil's Backbone
The Changeling

Any Argento movies, especially "Suspiria"

LOVE Dog Soldiers! All sorts of werewolfy fun to be had there!!!

I liked Trick R Treat but feel it is definitely overhyped. It's fun, but also seriously lacking in monster goodness. For a film that features werewolfs, vampires, zombies, and a serial killer, the only one who had any real screen time is a twisted ol' serial killer principal. The film just feels very abbreviated.

message 57: by Carl (new)

2339201 Any of the classic Universal flicks are great.
For modern, IMO, John Carpenter is the man for great Halloween flicks. Between the original HALLOWEEN, THE FOG, and THE THING, he has made 3 wonderful films for the day.

That is usually the case, I would agree. I'm also finding that I enjoy the book to movie translation better if the author isn't involved too much in the conversion process.

MMT was very well done, too bad Lionsgate shafted it on a theatrical release. The Books of Blood are starting to get done more. Book of Blood was released a while ago, and Dread is going to be shown at a film festival in CA in January 2010, with more in the line up. I did like Hellraiser, but compared to The Hellbound Heart, it didn't really stack up IMO.

message 52: by Kelly (new)

2856605 i forgot to mention Session 9, not a halloween theme, but scary, even if david caruso is in it

We have the BEST library system, and have a huge selection of movies to order from and reserve. It only takes a day from reservation til the item is in my library, so that's the way we get almost all our movies. Even the really weird ones :)

And that's why he's GOD!

Chris, I was playing The Monster Mash on my ipod for everyone at work yesterday. It's such a cute song! I don't know if you have Netflix but you can watch a lot of horror movies on their site instantly. You might also be able to find some on hulu.com.

message 48: by Jo (new)

834245 Things are a bit lackluster for scary movies & the like on tv this year for Halloween compared with last year. Ah well, good thing I've got lots of vhs & dvds!

message 47: by Chris (new)

1448151 You can PM me any other rec's, Jerrod....I don't mind! ;) I was thinking of checking out Hulu, too...

message 46: by Jerrod (new)

1302171 I can't recommend anything that would be considered legal, so no, I would recommend going and renting them.

message 45: by Chris (new)

1448151 I got to hear "Monster Mash" on the radio yesterday...corny song but I love it! :P

By the way, does anyone know of any good (free) websites where I can watch horror classics...I just have basic cable and I am so disappointed in some of the choices Chiller and AMC has been showing this year. They just rerun the same films every single day (although they have shown Halloween, but have neglected to run Halloween 2 and 3...). I really want to watch The Howling and I cannot find Slither on Demand, so I may have to rent it. And I am talkin' about free movies, folks... Any recommendations?

I have "This is Halloween" as my ringtone right now. Every time I hear it go off I get it stuck in my head. Damn you, Danny Elfman, with you're extremely catchy songs!

2034124 Scott wrote: "I have Trick 'r Treat at the top of my Netflix queue, but it's got a long wait."

Ditto, Scott. :-(

message 41: by Chris (new)

1448151 The remake was pretty good, Jaimie, I tend to agree with you on that one. Not many remakes of horror classics even come close, but that one wasn't bad...
