Each member can nominate up to 2 books.
Every nomination has to include at least one book that takes place in a country other than the one you live in. It can be any genre, but the main story has to be set in another country.
The other book is reader's choice! Nominate anything you want--but remember, only 1!
Please have your nominations in by Saturday this week, and I will post the polls on Sunday.
Happy Nominating!
My picks--
Foreign: Three Bags Full
Readers Choice: Dog on It A Chet and Bernie Mystery
As usual I had trouble narrowing it down so this time I went with a theme...can you tell? :)
Foreign (and something nominated by another BT member previously): A Long Way Gone Memoirs of a Boy Soldier
Reader's Choice: The Crying Tree A Novel
Ok, as usuall I always have trouble picking, because there is just so much! Here is what I came up with:
Foreign: Still Life with Elephant A Novel
(I dont know how much of it takes place in Africa but from the desciption it sounds like the majority. Hope that still counts!
Other: One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
For the second one I thought I would choose something more classic that I have not yet read.
Foreign: Kabul Beauty School An American Woman Goes Behind the Veil
Reader's Choice--which also happens to be foreign, but I've been wanting to read it and haven't gotten around to it yet......The Kite Runner
I just joined this group last week and am not sure what kind of books you usually read but here are 2 I plan on reading sometime soon. If they are not the right kind of books just let me know and I can find something else. Foreign: "Sarah's Key" by Tatiana de Rosnay
Reader's Choice: "Supreme Courtship" by: Christopher Buckley
Hi Annie!
Anything goes!
We've had some pretty interesting nominations since the start of the group. And it's been a great way to hear about books from the rest of the members that we may have never found ourselves. So far nothing has been off limits for nominations and we always have a group vote for the monthly read. I usually post a couple of "rules" for each month's nominations, so as long as people stick to that, the noms go into the poll.
Have fun--glad you found us!

the link to Annie's picks
Sarah's Key
Supreme Courtship
So many books, so little time....Foreign:
Jar City A Reykjavik Thriller

Reader's Choice:
Sense and Sensibility
(Fall is a good time for an Austen re-read, or read if you've never read her before)
Like Annie, I am also new to this group :) Here are my two picks:
Foreign:
Let the Right One In
Reader's Choice:
The House of the Spirits

Oooh. Let the Right One In was nearly my foreign choice!
Hey Deb, maybe you should draw from the hat again?? bring the over all numbers for voting down just a bit? I don't know what does everyone think?

Let the Right One In is on my to read list as well :))
Deb wrote: "I'm game for that if you guys think it's a good idea?"Yeah. I think drawing some from the hat and then voting would be good.
Drawing from a hat sounds like a good idea.
I keep waiting for my local library to get Let the Right One In. They have the movie, but not the book. Frustrating :(
that's what I'll do this month-I'll involve the hubby! since I have to leave soon for a work overnite weekend I'll post the polls sometime tomorrow after I return home
I am soo excited to see what is coming for November. The October reads were so good and the titles for November look very promising....
I think I like picking from the hat--it limits the number of choices we have, and for some reason we had a record number of votes in both categories this time.
So the polls are now closed (it must end at midnite on the date selected) and we have our winners: Jar City & Wet Nurses Tale--who would've guessed?!
As always, if you decide to read one of the other nominations that is not one of the picks for the month, feel free to start a discussion on it.
For anyone who liked or voted for the Crying Tree I think I will read that (as well as probably Jar city) if anyone wants to join for a discussion!
I think Beth is going to read The Crying Tree Kathryn. I'll read Jar City. I'm on my third Rowan Gant mystery....totally addictive for anyone who wants to read them.
Yeah I am sorry everyone, I can't even read the diescription. The words "wet nurse" make me throw up a little in my mouth....
Kathryn wrote: "Yeah I am sorry everyone, I can't even read the diescription. The words "wet nurse" make me throw up a little in my mouth...."Well let's hope you don't have kids. ; P ha ha ha
wet nurse, wet nurse, wet nurse, wet nurse, wet nurse, wet nurse, wet nurse, wet nurse, wet nurse, wet nurse, wet nurse, wet nurse, wet nurse, wet nurse, wet nurse, wet nurse, wet nurse, wet nurse, wet nurse, wet nurse, wet nurse, wet nurse, wet nurse, wet nurse, wet nurse, wet nurse, wet nurse, wet nurse, wet nurse, wet nurse, wet nurse, wet nurse, wet nurse, wet nurse, wet nurse, wet nurse, wet nurse, wet nurse, wet nurse, wet nurse...
Yeah maybe if I do, you can be my wet nurse. Since you like public health so much.
Get a life freak.
Kathryn wrote: "Yeah maybe if I do, you can be my wet nurse. Since you like public health so much."Now you're just being gross. ; p

or in this instance, a boob!
The Crying Tree sounded good, so did Still Life with Elephant. I added both to my list! Maybe we should have "off" disscussion threads for those that wanted to talk about the books that weren't officially chosen? Or would that be too much?

LOL! That was a great way to start my coffee in the morning. Thanks Rebecca!

Rebecca wrote: "The Crying Tree looks so interesting. If I can get my hands on a library copy, I'll read it too. "
Well if I want to read it, I guess I will have to buy it! I am #59 of 59 holds on only 14 copies at my library:(
