Katerina | 252 comments I'm just always thankful for the time I have. I'm thankful for many of the same things that you listed..having all the things that I do. I'm blessed beyond belief. I am thankful for the loving people I have in my life.

I am thankful for my hectic schedule. I know that sounds off, but I am really thankful I have a job, especially one I love, and I am thankful for my schooling, even if I am not too thrilled with my current classes at least I am able to get an education.
And I second everything already said, except my two cats don't have names :), I don't have 2 dogs or a parakeet!

i am thankful for my parents who have supported me every step of the way, i am thankful for my grandparents and i know that they live 3,000 miles away, i am still thankful for their help and support, i am also thankful for having such a great little brother who has made me a better person. i am thankful for gettting here to the united states because if i hadnt been here, i think today i would be in the israeli army just getting by instead of going to college and earning money to buy nice things..

Kimberly (KimberlywithaT) | 2140 comments I'm am so grateful for my job. I am so incredibly lucky to have this job, I'm starting what will be my career and I'm only 20. I'm grateful for my family, I love living near them. And I'm also grateful that I have such amazing friends. It's easy to forget sometimes, how amazing your friends are, you get busy with your life and then something happens and you realize that they would do absolutely anything for you. :-D

On a not so serious side, I'm thankful that I'm not living with an ogre any more. Hehehe.

On the serious side, I'm thankful that I've taken control of my life. I feel like I've grown up a lot this year. I'm thankful for my parents who have been nothing but supportive of me every step of the way. They're not perfect and we don't have a perfect relationship, but they try. And I'm thankful for my grandma and papa because, seriously, no one's grandparents are better than mine.

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

actually mine are better just kidding

message 8: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (SarahSaysRead) Hmmm... I feel like I have a lot to be thankful for this year.
~My family, especially my mom. She's always there when I need her. And she's fun.

~My wonderful, sweet, loving boyfriend, and the fact that we were finally able to get a place together this year :o)

~On that note, I'm thankful just to have someplace to call home!

~For my new car. I replaced my godforsaken Escort with a great yellow Beetle. So much less stress.

~Even though I hate working, I am thankful that I have a job. They're hard to come by these days.

~For the person that I am today. I feel overall content and balanced. I'm more assertive than I used to be, but I'm also less neurotic and more easy-going.

~And on the less serious side, I'm thankful for my cell phone, the internet, chicken, my crockpot, coffee, and of course - my books. All things that I could live without, but sure are nice to have.

Sarah--that's awesome that you and your boyfriend were finally able to get a place together!

I think that I should be a little more thankful for my job as well. I is hell..but it's a job and that's more than alot of people have right now.

message 10: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (SarahSaysRead) Thanks :o)

Yeah, and I have a really easy job. I'm at work right now, and yet here I am on Goodreads! I just hate working, I feel like it such a waste of precious time. Especially since it's not something I love. But then I feel slightly like a brat for complaining because I know a lot of people don't have any work and it's tough. So, our jobs are better than nothing I guess, right?

message 11: by Monica (new)

Monica (monbon211) | 89 comments I am thankful for:

~The new friendships this year, including mending some friendships

~My wonderful, funny, supportive boyfriend

~My 2000 Chevy Cavalier Z22 that might be on its last legs, but it's been a big help for the past 15 months

~The cute lil 4 yr old rednose pitbull my boyfriend and I adopted. He has changed our lives and filled our hearts with even more love. I love Chopper to pieces. He was in a bad situation before we got him, now he's happy and healthy.

~My family, esp my sister. I don't know what I'd do without her.

~I am also thankful for my health, the things I have including the fire stove, food, clean water, clothes, and a roof over my head.

Doing this made me feel much more happier this morning. Thank You!

Sarah, I have a Mercury Tracer, which has the same engine as the Escort. I can sympathize. :-P

message 13: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (SarahSaysRead) It cheered me up too Monica! Maybe I should try making a list like this every few days, just to keep some perspective!

I went through a period of time when I had to write down a few things every day of things I was thankful for to make myself stop focusing on the negative. It's a good exercise.

message 15: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (KimberlywithaT) | 2140 comments I just wanted to add one.
~I am so grateful for a pair of warm sturdy boots!

We had our first snowfall here today, it was beautiful because all the leaves are still yellow and orange and looked beautiful with the snow on top.

message 16: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (SarahSaysRead) Good one Kim! When it starts to snow I start to get extra-happy about thick wool socks!

Jamie, I did the same thing! I was a little angsty as a teenager, so I started keeping a journal where I wrote down things to be thankful for everyday. It definitely helps you see things in a more optimistic p.o.v!

message 17: by [deleted user] (new)

since we are discussing cars, i have a toyota corolla 04, with custom speakers and subwoofers, and i am in the process of adding rims and tints to it, but its great on gas and well i have been racing on it

message 18: by Nancy (new)

Nancy | 1 comments im thankful for my education that im fortunate enough to have my parents supporting me in (even if they try and take control sometimes :/ )im really thinking about it now as graduation looms ahead and i realize how much im gonna miss school.

message 19: by Emily (new)

Emily O (ReadingWhileFemale) | 487 comments You know what? This is going to sound really cheesy, but this year I'm really thankful for my boyfriend.
I've been having a tough time this year with school, and I've been having some doubts about my major and what I want to do with my life. Honestly, I've been pretty whiny and I'm kind of a bitch when I'm stressed, but he's still there for me when I need him. He comforts me when I'm sad and he helps me study when I'm stressing. He's probably the most understanding person in the world. He totally understands the uncertainty I'm felling about my career, and he says that no-matter what I choose, he will support me. That really means a lot. And yeah, he's got his faults, and sometimes he bothers me, but I can honestly say that there is on-one I'd rather be with. And no-matter how bad things get with school and financial aid and my stupid major, that's always going to make me smile.
So, thank you Skye. I love you.

message 20: by Jessie (new)

Jessie (Jessie08) | 128 comments This year, especially more than any previous, I am thankful for my family. Out of this past year I spent 9 of the 12 months out of the country and was unable to spend Thanksgiving or Christmas with my family. So this year I am so excited to have a big family Thanksgiving. My mom and I normally argue like crazy; disagreeing about just about everything. But I've noticed that now when I see her, since it's only for a weekend or so, that we get along very well. Being away from them for so long has made me appreciate my family so much...yes, even my three younger brothers!

message 21: by Emily (new)

Emily O (ReadingWhileFemale) | 487 comments I've noticed that being away from family for awhile definitely makes you appreciate them more while you're home. I've been off to college for awhile now, and when I go home I think I like it more than I did before. I mean, yeah, they're still my family, and sometimes the siblings are annoying or my mom and I disagree or my dad says something rude, but you know, they love me and they feed me and they really enjoy spending time with me, and you don't get that kind of thing from just anybody. So I think I appreciate them more while I'm there, even though I'm also happy to get back to school.

message 22: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen I am thankful for my family, my friends, that some of my college friends live near me in Massachusetts, for overcoming disordered eating (for the most part), for my new phone (I get service in my house now!), for my education at Ithaca College, for a car that can get me to Ithaca to visit, for my job at B&N, for liking most of my coworkers there, for having time to read for fun, and for having a great group of friends here on GR. :)

message 23: by Jen (new)

Jen (wishesandwanderlust) | 696 comments I am thankful for: my parents, my brother, my two cats (they can always make me laugh after a long day), friends, for my job (even though I hate it sometimes), for my education, my car (without it I would not be able to get to work/school), having clean water, always having food to eat and a roof over my head.

And on a less serious note I am thankful for: clearance Halloween candy, the Internet (GoodReads included!), coffee, bookstores and having time to read. :)

message 24: by Jessika (new)

Jessika (jessilouwho22) I am thankful for my family, and especially my parents. I'm so thankful for my friends who are there for me every step of the way, and I'm thankful that my group of college friends has become infinitely closer this year. I'm thankful that I finally figured out what I want to do with my life and that I'm now able to take steps towards getting there. I'm thankful for finding a career path that actually fits me. I'm thankful that I am able to go to college and that I have access to human essentials. I'm thankful for all the new friends I've made this year. And of course, I'm thankful for good books, Goodreads, and good friends from this group! :)

It is November again, so I thought I would bring back this thread.

Right now I am extremely thankful for my health. It isn't the best, but I have had several relatives, friends and acquaintances battling diseases lately and it sucks!

message 26: by Sarah (last edited Nov 14, 2010 08:33PM) (new)

Sarah (SarahSaysRead) I am thankful for my crazy, wonderful family - even when they annoy me. Especially my mom - she is funny, weird, and she's the most giving person I know. I am incredibly thankful for my honeyman. He is sweet, fun to be with, and just such a wonderful man, and I am one hell of a lucky girl. I'm thankful for my job (that I have one, that it pays well, and that I like it), and I'm thankful for my apartment. I'm thankful for my friends, and for having a relatively strong sense of who I am. And of course, I'm thankful for books, and for still having good enough eye vision to keep reading!

And on a silly note, I'm thankful for my yellow VW Beetle, comfy sweaters, coffee, used bookstores, pull-throughs in parking lots, and mashed potatoes (mmmmmmm...).

Tami, sorry to hear that! Hope they're pulling through and that you're staying strong!

I'm so thankful for my family. I've always taken them forgranted but this year, after watching my bf lose his dad and be reminded of the pain of not having my mom here anymore, I realized how precious these moments are with them.

I'm also really thankful for my boyfriend. He keeps me sane, makes me laugh and is my best friend.

I'm also really thankful that, despite being unemployed right now, I am certainly not living in poverty or homeless. I may not have money to buy all the things that I'd LIKE to buy but I'm certainly not without.

message 28: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen Jamie, I think I can second all of those. I am thankful for my family, boyfriend, and home as well. I'm so thankful I am able to eat the food that I want to eat (most of the time) instead of just trying to get enough to live. I'm thankful that I've found time for my faith in my life and have devoted more of my time to that.

Great thread to bring back up. What is everyones plans for Thanksgiving this year? Ours is the same as all years, my house with my siblings, their husbands, and the neices and nephews, and my mom. My sisters are insane and do the whole Black Friday thing, so they lay out their ads and plan their map after we are done eating.

Things I am grateful for this year:

My family and friends: I have the best EVER! I am sure we all say that but it is true in my case. :)

Having a job: I know there are a lot out there that don't, and I am double blessed in that I love my job.

Having a roof and food and transportation: My house isn't as fancy as I would like but I have a roof over my head, have food to eat, and I love my car.

message 30: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen Tami, those are all great things to be thankful for, and I'm thankful for all the same things, specific to my situation of course.

I'm thankful for my fiance too, and for the fact that we can afford to buy a house. Hopefully we'll be able to find one soon!

message 31: by Sashana (last edited Nov 14, 2011 06:54PM) (new)

Sashana I am thankful for:

Being able to attend and afford college because I'm paying for it on my own.

My awesome best friend who always listens to my problems without complaining and making me smile when I think I won't be able to ever again.

My wonderful math tutor who helped me bring my grade from a C to an A.

My two close friends for picking up the tab to my Taylor Swift ticket when they knew I couldn't afford it.

My dad for providing for my family even though he's sick :(

My grandma for being healthy and alive because she had a rough year emotionally and physically.

Really, I could go on and on...

message 32: by Sashana (new)

Sashana That was very therapeutic ^-^. Sometimes I complain too much when in reality I have so much to be thankful for.

message 33: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen I think it's something we all suffer from, Sashana... I know I take a lot for granted in my life. It's good to just think about how lucky I am to have what I have.

I wish you, your father, your grandmother, and the rest of your family the best this holiday season!

This might sound a little cheesy, but reading through previous posts, I'm not the only one that's done this: I'm thankful for my boyfriend. We haven't been together very, very long, but he's become my best friend. We joke around like bros (not even kidding) and we have serious conversations about life and books and we have a fair bit of passion too. I really couldn't ask for anyone better. And his family has accepted me into theirs. We just fit.

I'm also very thankful for my grandparents who wiped clean the debt I owed them for the trip I took this summer. (I asked that for my birthday they take what they would have spent and knock it off my total; they knocked off the whole thing, which I totally didn't expect)

I am grateful for my jobs, one of which is preparing me for a career.

I am grateful for friends that you can have a major falling out with, not speak for months, and then slowly start to pick up the pieces.

And that's all for now. I'm sure I'll think of more.

message 36: by Kelly A. (new)

Kelly A. | 499 comments My parents, first and foremost. They have always given me everything I've ever needed (NEEDED, not wanted!) and I am so thankful that they are willing to pay my way through college.

Speaking of, I'm thankful that I will be graduating in April. I have no idea what I'll be doing afterwards, but it's been a rough journey and I'm glad I've gotten through it.

I am so thankful for my three best friends whom I know would do anything in the world to help me.

And my kitty! I'm always grateful for him :)

Wow, we haven't brought the post back this year. I am still thankful for everything I was thankful for last year, but I have a new one to add.

My best friend from high school is getting married Friday and while I am completely bummed I couldn't make the trip out there, I am extremely grateful she is getting the chance to tie the knot. She lives in Virginia and is able to get a same sex marriage. I wish them both the best of luck!
