1939651 This looks awesome!! You did really well. I will come up with a list of books I want to read and probably will change along the way, but I like having a list to go off of. :) I'm in for sure.

*Do they all need to be Young Adult, or are Adult books fine as well?

**Can we use a category twice?

message 3: by Linda Grace (last edited Oct 16, 2009 09:28AM) (new)

1939651 Here is my list. If Adult books aren't okay, let me know and I will change it. Also, let me know if anything looks like it doesn't really belong with a category. :)

A Memoir- Three Weeks with My Brother
A Historical Non Fiction- Chasing the Horizon Our Adventures Through the British Isles and France (a non-fiction about Thomas Kinkade's journey through Europe and stories from his father about WWII)

Category Two - worth 20 points

A Graphic Novel- Maus I A Survivor's Tale My Father Bleeds History

A Couldn't Read- The Fellowship of the Ring
A Non Fiction book by a female author- Eat, Pray, Love One Woman's Search for Everything Across Italy, India and Indonesia

1919931 (Sorry- I tried to message you but it was being difficult...)

Jenna,

I am so excited about this Young Adult group which I just joined. I was looking at the November-December challenge and could you just give me some more information. Do you have to read one of each of the types of books? Can you read multiple under one category? Do we just keep track of what we read and tally up the scores?

Thank you so much for the clarification,
Kellee

message 5: by Pollyanna (last edited 24 days ago, 04:31AM) (new)

2518609 I've made a list but I don't know if I'll stick to it yet:

Category 1: Worth 25 points

Biography: Anne Frank The Diary of a Young Girl
Memoir: Girl, Interrupted
Historical Non-Fiction: Trail of Tears
Classic: The Catcher in the Rye
Book written before I was born: Jude the Obscure

Category 2: Worth 20 points

A Graphic Novel:
Buffy the Vampire Slayer The Long Way Home
Book of Poetry: Good Poems for Hard Times
A Couldn't read book: A Kiss of Shadows (Meredith Gentry, #1)
Non Fiction by a female: Eats, Shoots & Leaves The Zero Tolerance Approach to Punctuation

Category 3: Worth 15 points

Sci-fi book: 1984
Anthology: Smoke and Mirrors Short Fictions and Illusions
Book made into a movie: Stardust

Category 4: Worth 10 points

A Fantasy (No vampires or fairies: The Stand
A New Release: The Lost Symbol
A Teen Romance: Gossip Girl

Category 5: Worth 5 points

A Fantasy: Glass Houses
A children's Book: Little Women
Any YA: Fragile Eternity

And this may sound dumb lol but by a couldn't read book, do you mean it should have been shelved as that or is it supposed to be something that I couldn't read?

message 6: by Linda Grace (new)

1939651 I used a "Couldn't Finish" book for that category. One that I tried to read, but couldn't finish. If that isn't correct let me know.

message 7: by Jenna (new)

1377990 Yay, I'm so excited to see your lists,I'm really looking forward to this challenge!

So to answer some questions:

Linda, yes you can use Adult books as well,so your list is great! Also yes you can read from the same category more than once.

Pollyanna, A couldn't read is either a book that you attempted to read and then just couldn't get through it.Or you can look up the "couldn't read" shelf here on Goodreads and choose a book from there.

Kellee, First off welcome to the group,we are glad to have you! You can go about this challenge in a couple ways. You can either read books that fit into one of the categories, and then as you read them post the name of the book and the points that correspond with that category. So for example you can read a few graphic novels and a couple teen romances, a memoir...whatever you'd like really.
The other way you can go about it,and the way that I kind of intended for this to go,is to chose a book for each category and then each time you read something from your list you mark it off and tally your points that way. I hope that cleared some things up...feel free to ask anything if you need some help!

message 8: by Linda Grace (last edited Oct 16, 2009 01:51PM) (new)

1939651 Thanks for clearing things up Jenna. I have another vampire fantasy I wanted to fit in, so I may have a few categories with a couple books on them. I'm really looking forward to this challenge. Awesome job Jenna for coming up with everything!

message 9: by Kellee (new)

1919931 Thank you Jenna!
So technically I can read 20 young adult books which would equal 100 points if I wanted to go that route?

I am really enjoying the group.

I'm getting married a week from tomorrow and well.. let's just say I've been busy between that, work, and my blog. :) I will be coming up with some sort of list.

I know I will be reading all of Maria V. Snyder's books at the end of Oct. or beginning of Nov. I'll make a real list later. :)

I asked Jenna that same question by e-mail and this was her reply:
Yes you can read multiple books from the same category. However for every 3 books you read from one category you must read 1 book from 2 other categories. for example if you wanted to read 3 young adult books in order to have your 4th one count you would need to read say a poetry book and a historical non-fiction,or whatever other categories you choose.
The goal of this challenge was to get you to read books outside of your normal genre,so I think this rule is pretty reasonable.

2087640 Kellee,

I really want to hear what you think about The Last Olympian when you're done. The billboards are everywhere!

I must say I'm loving SHIVER by Maggie Steifvater. I highly recommend. I am completely absorbed in the world of Mercy Falls. I'm looking forward to LINGER and I'll be in search of her LAMENT and BALLAD when I'm done. (all by the same author)

So, right now I have 3 books under fantasy, but I also have 1 from 2 other categories. So, would I be able to count a 4th one? Is it every three you need 1 from two other or every extra past the 3rd?

For example, I am currently reading 2 more fantasy books that would fall under the same category. Would I be able to count either of them or both of them? :) Let me know. I can read other books in between if I need to, I just have mostly fantasy books at home and am trying to go through those first.
