446509 Thanks, Bill! Maybe I'll put it on my "too-see" list, but not at the top, per say. I appreciate your comments!!! :)

I liked it. At first I thought somehow the American wife was going to win the family over, but the story was resolved in a very different way. It is based on a Noel Coward play as I recall, but it is a darker play than I usually associate with Coward.

This isn't my favorite Colin Firth movie, but that is not because of his acting. The plot was not as engaging as P & P, Fever Pitch of the two Brigit Jones movies.

2204060 I am always interest in Colin Firth's work. I added Easy Virtue to my Netflix quene as a result of this thread. Thanks.

1020412 Good question. Now that I think about it, I'm not sure. There were definitely elements of a sort of black humour (although often with a sort of hysterical giggle cringe factor), but there were also parts that were so very unfunny. And in a few parts I was so aggravated with various members of the British family (never Colin Firth's character) for being so rude and mean, that I wanted to give them a good smack upside the head.
Maybe a closer description would be a dark comedy drama.

2425076 I only got to watch the beginning -- the first dinner party at home was just forming. Would you say this is a "black" comedy in the British tradition or is it really more of a dark drama?

1020412 I really enjoyed this movie. Colin Firth was great, as always. And Jennifer Biel was surprisingly good. But I don't think the movie could ever be called light-hearted or "feel-good".

The only thing I was conflicted over was if the family was depicted way over the top in an almost parody or if it was in fact an accurate portrayal of a typical British family of that time.

Same here. It looks like something I will enjoy. (It's due back at the library, or I would watch it this week.)

2425076 I haven't seen it yet, but I think it is a comedy. Netflix lists it as "witty, feel-good, romantic". It even has a goofy little dog on the cover. Don't know if it is any good, but don't think it is dark. :)

446509 Just wondered if anyone had seen this and, if so, what they thought. I was quite anxious to rent it, if for no other reason than our beloved Colin Firth. However, it seems to have received mixed reviews, and several comments indicating that the film is rather dark. So, I just wondered if anyone here could give more insight? Thanks!
