2018128 Glad to hear I wasn't the only one wanting more of Darcy. He's one of my fave characters ever. Anywho I picked up another book having Darcy as a vampire, haven't read it yet, but we'll see if it's better. It is Vampire Darcy's Desire A Pride and Prejudice Adaptation. I'll post my thoughts about it whenever I get around to reading it.

Now that I have finished the book, the heroine has become more sympathetic. The author did a very respectable job of staying true to the era of Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austin (from whence come both Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth)and the heroine grew in strength with each new trial of her courage.

The plot of the story, even though its trajectory is somewhat known by the reader from the beginning, builds in suspense so that by the end of the book it becomes a real page-turner. The suspense is heightened by Mr. Darcy's constant temptation to bring Elizabeth completely into his world and his self-imposed restraint as he tries to protect her from it.

There are other twists and turns along the way that help build suspense by complicating the conflict. I'm a little disappointed in the ending because it came from a more modern focus on the mystical, but it doesn't ruin the story. I agree with Donna Jo that the ending wasn't the one I was expecting or the one I wanted, but it will suffice. I also agree that there could have been more of Mr. Darcy. He was mostly a prop for the heroine Elizabeth until the end. Developing him more would have added a great deal to the book.

The book is written by an author that specializes in using classical works as a jumping-off point, a whole category of books that I was only vaguely aware of until now. It did pique my interest in revisiting Jane Austin, at least Pride and Prejudice. When I read her work in college I had a hard time connecting with her satire and only did so when I saw Emma Thompson in Sense and Sensibility. Time for another look.

1770025 The letter from the heroine to her sister before the first chapter does an excellent job of setting a mood of foreboding as we enter into the cheerful first chapter where she and her sister are married on the same day.

Although it's part and parcel of the genre, I have a hard time with the doe-eyed, subservient heroine whose doubts linger unanswered. It seems to me she could be a stronger person and that Mr. Darcy could use more craft in distracting her from her doubts. It would make them both more interesting characters.

2018128 It's really funny. I read this book this week, finished it yesterday actually. Then I come on here and I find this group and it's the book to read for this month! haha Great minds think alike? I think so! :)

Well, I loved it. I love Pride & Prejudice. Mr. Darcy being my fave character. I am also a vampire fanatic. So this book was definitely a MUST READ IMMEDIATELY! And to think I found it by accident when I went to pick up some Anita Blake books. Awesome. So, I read it. And I LOVED it! Now it's not one of those books that really speak to you and move you. But to me it was a pretty good read. Will I force anyone else to read it? No, I don't force ANY books on people. I suggest them repeatedly, and I will suggest this book to my avid reader friends. Will I read it again? Sure I'll read it again. I was hoping it ended differently, not saying it ends horribly! I like the ending. But as I said, I was just hoping for it to end differently. :) Darcy makes a great vampire. I think the only thing that should've been done a little differently is more vampire Darcy. He was in character for most of the book and I think more vampire moments would've been better..(if that makes sense!) All in all I think it was pretty good, though.
