I really liked The Magicians too. I had read, both here and elsewhere, that the ending was unsatisfying. I thought the ending was good and Quentin's decisions fit his character.
I finally finished this and I would say that I really liked it, though I too thought the ending was a bit unsatisfying. Without giving away too much, I just feel that Quentin is way too wishy-washy at the end. After all he goes through, he makes decisions, doesn't stick by them, changes his life completely several times. That annoyed me a bit, but overall I did like it. I did find the sense of wonder that you didn't AM, but I don't read too much fantasy, so didn't have much to compare to...
I enjoyed The Magicians quite a bit, the end of it was disappointing, but I thought that it was a great book and pushed it off on my husband to read.
I finished it but did not love it. I explain more in my GoodReads review, but plainly I never caught me in a sense of wonder or exploration that I look for in my fantasy novels. It actually left me kind of annoyed at all the characters.
I'm not exactly sure how I feel about the book. While I enjoyed reading it, after I finished I felt unsatisfied.I really can't say too much, Stephanie, without giving away key plot points, but I felt that the event that the whole book was leading too was disappointing and confusing and at the end there seem to be a lot of unanswered questions and loose ends. There were characters from early in the book that I expected to hear from again but we never find out what happens to them. I also found myself liking the main character less and less as the book went on.
If you do read the book Stephanie, and when you do finish it Michael, I'd like to hear what you think.
By the way Michael, congratulations on the baby!
with the baby, I still haven't finished it!! I've got about 100 pages left, but I'm still loving it. I've heard from a friend that he thought it fell apart in the last 10 pages or so, but that wasn't enough to ruin it for him. He still liked it.
What did you think? He got me really excited about this book. I just picked up about 20 books I had on hold at the library, and was thinking of putting it on my next round.
