335159 Thanks, Jean. I do seem to have had a rash of acceptances lately. Of course how many I have hinges not only on the quality of the poems, but also on how many submissions I have out at once.

Nophoto-f-25x33 I'd like to add my belated congratulations too, Ruth. You go girl!!

Jean K.

335159 Thanks, Monica. Nice to see you here.

347123 Hi everybody!

Erratic GR reading caused me to almost miss this one....Belated congrats, Ruth.

335159 Thanks Leola. Thanks for the plug, NE. And Sherry that's interesting about the tarheel stuff. I was pretty sure it wasn't because they have native tar pits like LA, but couldn't think of another connection.

message 31: by Leola (new)

2838518 Congratulations!!

193297 Well, NC is called the Tar Heel State. You're right NE. I knew at one time, but I had forgotten. I'm a native Tar Heel. (But mostly, I just had black feet from running around barefooted all the time.)

Sorry to derail the talk from Ruth's wonderful accomplishment.

730754 I think I posted this in another group, but you all should know just how picky this magazine is. It only publishes 2% of the poems it receives. Now THAT'S exclusive company Ruth keeps!

As for all the Tar talk, it has to do with their trees and their ship-building industry in colonial times, I think. Then again, I may be wrong. What in TarNation do YOU think? ("Tarnation" is a word, isn't it? My spell check would have it banished.)

message 28: by Ruth (new)

335159 Why thank you, Harley. I wish I had the discipline to write as constantly as you do.

message 27: by Harley (new)

2103162 Congratulations, Ruth! You deserve the success from all your hard work.

335159 Thanks, Barb. :)

And Tarheels?

Where does all the tar come from?

message 24: by Barbara (new)

340071 Ruth, this sounds very impressive. Congratulations!

message 23: by Sherry, Doyenne (new)

193297 Yes, there is a Tar River, Ruth. There's also a Tarboro.

2524666 I don't know seems like you have a nice collection going to me. Time to publish maybe.

message 21: by Ruth (new)

335159 I take no responsibility for the name, Philip. All I know is the Tar Pits in Los Angeles. Sherry, is there a Tar River in NC?

Beej, I should hire you to be my publicist.

Carol, I am eternally preparing to get ready to begin to start putting a book of poetry together.

message 20: by Beej (new)

340401 Ruth, my amazing friend, I am so proud of you.

2524666 Ruth are you writing a book?

message 18: by Marian (new)

943983 Congrats, Ruth. This should make it easier to have a book published

message 17: by Philip (new)

555726 Hope it's not so tar-ry that you can't climb back out safely ... :)

message 16: by Ruth (new)

335159 Thanks Jane and MAP. Tar River's supposed to be hard to get into, so I'm pleased.

message 15: by Jane (new)

336792 Congratulations, Ruth!

message 14: by MAP (new)

457755 Fabulous, Ruth. You are on a roll!

message 13: by Ruth (new)

335159 Thanks, Gail, Ricki and Mina. I suppose I'd better put the mother/dementia collection together before I start getting too dotty myself.

message 12: by Gail (new)

199326 Congratulations, Ruth! I'm very happy for your successes.

And while I don't want to be pushy, I hope with Mina that a Mother collection will happen.

message 11: by Ricki (new)

335756 That's lovely news Ruth - congratulations.

message 10: by Wilhelmina (new)

1010541 Wonderful, Ruth! And I'm still pulling for the collection about your mother. I don't think that it would be too depressing; these days, a parent with dementia is an experience with which many people, myself included, can identify.

message 9: by Ruth (new)

335159 Thanks, Capitu, Jim and Lynn. Yes, it is a lot of work to send out submissions, but some publications are now allowing you to do it electronically. It makes things easier. (Some say it makes it easier for them to reject you, doesn't leave your work lying around so they can have second thoughts about it.)

message 8: by Capitu (new)

748860 Ruth, this is great. Congratulations!

message 7: by Jim (new)

344915 Well done.

message 6: by Lynn (new)

334827 Congratulations, Ruth! This is great news. I know how much work it is to send out submissions and am glad to hear it's paying off.

message 5: by Ruth (new)

335159 Thanks, Philip, Carol and Sherry. I'm pretty thrilled about this one.

message 4: by Philip (new)

555726 That's great news, Ruth! And what a fine company of contributors to join, too.

2524666 That is so wonderful Ruth. Congratulations.

message 2: by Sherry, Doyenne (new)

193297 Congratulations, Ruth. You're in my home territory now. I grew up about 30 miles from Greenville, NC.
