2488710 Hey Everyone!

Thanks for all the ideas! i don't know where to start! i actually just started reading "Perfume: The Story of a Murderer" and it's pretty creepy. It's about this orphan who has this crazy sense of smell and when he disccovers a "certain" smell he starts murdering people to re-create that smell.

So crazy!

lol.

Oh, Elena. I was thinking about reading Dracula next which means I would be starting it this weekend and now that you have written about your experience, I am not sure! ;) With my husband leaving soon, I will just have to sleep with the lights on!

753947 Oh, I'd have to agree with all those who said Frankenstein and Dracula, great books. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is also marvellous, and quite short, so it's a quick read. Practically everything by H.P. Lovecraft can be quite creepy, and if you like science fiction they'd probably be great.

Hard to go wrong with Dracula but enjoy whatever you decide on.

1197943 Oooops, I meant to write, "might NOT be as fast a read..."

I loved it because it was a good read (albeit it might be as fast as read as some of the books out nowadays...but it is fairly short) and because of the story. Did your brother like Dracula?

I loved it and since I'm a dad myself, I would have to say he's a smart man, haha. :)

1197943 It you wanted something in a classic vein, I would suggest Frankenstein, The Turn of the Screw or The Invisible Man (H.G. Wells). Dracula is the greatest! If you want something more modern, really disturbing and scary, try Clive Baker: The Inhuman Condition. Right now, I am reading Rosemary's Baby and it's definitely creepy.

2669490 Dracula and Phantom of the Opera (the original novel) are both fantastic "horror" novels. Although, I would say that I didn't find them overly scary.

1868161 hello

uh, I don't really read those type of books but ( maybe this is dumb and unoriginal) my brother has read Dracula twice and said it was good. I'm going to read it someday, when I'm in the mood for it.haha

Nophoto-f-25x33 Hi,
My suggestion would be Chelsea Cain books, Heartsick, Sweetheart and Evil at Heart.
They are VERY scary thrillers.....of the Hannibal Lecter type.
Although the writing can be grisly, Cain also writes with humor!
I have her newest,Evil At Heart which I am saving to read nearer to Halloween

2488710 Hello!

I was just wondering what everyone's favourite halloween/scary themed books are. I love reading scary and dark books especially at this time of year and since it is close to Halloween. I'm looking for something other than Stephen King or Anne Rice! lol even though i love them both, i just want something different. If anyone has any suggestions, that would be great!! Thanks!!
