2024916 Hey guys! I had a lot of fun last month reading the postings of people who are crazier than me when it comes to buying books. To be in the company of others bibliophiles.... there's just no words! So, I was wondering if you'd like to keep track of this month's purchases as well? C'mon! I know some of you have already bought at least 20 or 30 books already :)

There is a shelf for each month's purchases. Cool! I like seeing what we all buy as well =D

Thanks! I just tried to add a book to that shelf, and it didn't take. How exactly do you add a book that shelf? Do you do something different than when you add it to the group bookshelf?

2408497 Just updated Bookshelf! Thanks for adding and starting this thread, this was great fun in September! 6 books already and it's only the 2nd of the month :)

Here is what I purchased:

Darkfever
Bloodfever
Faefever
Incubus Dreams
Fantasy Lover
Covet

And I got them from BookDepository.com

message 5: by Michelle (new)

2024916 I finally figured out how to add books to the bought-in '09 shelf link. I've added the books that I bought. All of mine are from my favorite used bookstore. I had a credit to use there, and couldn't resist using it all up yesterday.

11 books for $5? I'm going to my library tomorrow and asking when their next sale is!

message 11: by Kenjii (new)

1125077 I have not bought any books for Oct. [yet!
:] But what about getting them by other means? Swaps? Gifts from friends? Signed copies? If that counts I have gotten 5 books so far =D.

message 12: by Joseph (new)

1313648 Borders did it to me again. Not only did they send me a %20 off coupon but I also got $5 worth of Borders Bucks, so of course I couldn't resist going in and getting myself Full Cry A Novel for the incredible price of only $1.51. And add to that four more used books from the library:
Edison Inventing the Century
Dr. Seuss & Mr. Geisel A Biography
All in a Lifetime An Autobiography
Charles Dickens
Which brings me up to 10 so far for October. Sheesh, am I off to a start or what? <:-)

It's only Oct. 3rd. It looks like another good month for book addicts.

message 14: by Michelle (new)

2024916 I went to Borders to use my Borders Bucks towards Dan Brown's The Lost Symbol, and left with Destined for an Early Grave by Jeaniene Frost, Claimed By Shadow by Karen Chance, and Addicted by Charlotte Featherstone instead. Blood Magic by Jennifer Lyon arrived via postal mail from a used bookstore that lists on Amazon. Due to $100 credit at my local used bookstore, I really racked up there on Oct. 1st. I really don't have a monthly max, but I was thinking I should tone it down for the rest of the month, but I know I won't. I still want to get The Lost Symbol, and you know you can never buy one book at a time, at least I can't.

1241771 I got that same Borders deal but I am not sure if I will get there to usethis offer but there is a new Diana Gabaldon book at 30% off. Will they let me use the $5. off with it I do not know.

Yes, I've asked that same question. Borders Bucks can be used on a sale item. Only other coupon offers cannot. At least that's what I was told back in August. Hope that helps.

You married a book a holic? Good for you!!!! If you're talking about Echo in Bone, I'm looking forward to reading that one too. I'm only as far as Drums of Autumn, so I can wait until the mass paperback edition comes out I guess. I've become addicted to the Outlander series.

I bought Addicted yesterday too. I thought about getting a book light while I was waiting in line, but changed my mind; I'm wishing now that I bought one.

790403 that's too funny. There was only one copy left when I went. I got a pink light lol. they might still be half off. I don't know how long the sale is for. I got mine for 4.99.

and i just ordered A Lick of Frost (Meredith Gentry, #6) in hard cover on betterworldbooks.com for $5.00 too. The internet is such a dangerous place.

Tell me about it. I signed up for that Amazon Prime program. I get free 2 day shipping on any books that I order. I've ordered quite a bit from betterworldbooks via Amazon's used store. I'll have to check out their website.

1552791 Library book sales are amazing! And I never would've known about the ones near me without booksalefinder.com that someone posted in another group. My hubby's in the navy (one more year to go!!!), so we move a lot and its harder to take advantage of libraries...

Anyway, so far this month I've bought or swapped for (btw, swaptree.com is a great swapping website!!):
Sins of the Night (Kenyon)
Dark Dance (Tanith Lee)
Don't Talk Back to Your Vampire (Bardsley)
Rebel Angels (Bray)
Banner of Souls (Liz Williams)
Jacob (Frank)
Primal Heat (Sizemore)
Lover Revealed (Ward)
Proven Guilty (Butcher)
The Secret Circle (L.J. Smith)
Shadow of the Hegemon (Orson Scott Card)
Dead Man Rising (Saintcrow)

Twelve's not bad, right? :)

Oh, and this is a little off topic, but I keep running into idiots that insist on calling a library- "LIBARY". It drives me crazy. Especially when these people are supposed to be educated. One was my proctor for college exams... Anyway, my husband just makes fun of me when I complain (he doesn't read!!), so I had to go somewhere that people would understand. :)

I just bought a copy of Dead Man Rising on Friday. I've been waiting for a copy of Jacob to turn up at the used bookstore for what seems like forever. I'll be checking out booksalefinder.com, and swaptree.com. Although, I'm not sure I could part with any of the books I own right now :)

2462844 I just 8 books I bought/won on ebay this weekend.
Urban Shaman
Derik's Bane
Dragon Wytch
Running Wild
Strictly Taboo
Knight of a Trillion Stars
Dark Thirst
Even Vampires Get the Blues

I really just wanted a couple of those books but the seller had the others at a good price with combined shipping and I'm sure I'll read them all eventually.

message 27: by Ilean (new)

1241771 SHHHHH-jist got a Doubleday flier in mail 6 books for .99cents each plus postage. The Diana Gabaldon book is on the list. Plus quit a few others I am wanting. I may rejoin Take the 7 book deal (7th book is $5.99) then I only have to get a couple other books over a 2 year period. I have done this in the past to get what I want.

After reading your post I went on ebay and checked out the selection. I was amazed at the amount of sci-fi/ fantasy books for sale. I'll have to start bidding one day soon. There were just too many things I wanted, and I was afraid I'd over do it.

Looloo, you troublemaker. Now I've got another place to be spending money on books. Thanks alot! lol

I'm still finding plenty as it is at my favorite spot, my library. Yesterday, I got to bring home to keep two of my favorites by Chris Van Allsburg:
Jumanji
The Stranger

message 31: by Michelle (last edited Oct 08, 2009 06:45AM) (new)

Oh Joseph, you didn't already know about ebay's great book buys. Hehehe, corrupted another!! Really though, you can get some good deals if you take the time to search. I found a seller this summer who offered free shipping if you bought 8 books or more and she had her books for $1-$2.50 each with buy it now. I must have bought 30-35 books from her this summer. She'd even wrap them up with colored tissue paper and confetti in the box so it was liking getting a gift with each package. Fun! Unfortunately she's quit selling since school started back.

So what is your total for Oct. now?

message 33: by Joseph (new)

1313648 Looloo wrote: "So what is your total for Oct. now?..."

So far I'm only up to 11. But I do have that %40 off coupon from Borders as well as more withdrawing at the library to do so that number is sure to go up. And fortunately, now that I have my two new bookcases up and my books reshelved I now have plenty of room to add new books. Can you believe I actually have one whole shelf completely empty? We'll see how long that lasts. lol

message 34: by Susan (Suz) (new)

2408497 Joseph I'm betting that empty shelf doesn't stay empty for long at all!!:) LOL I'm off to borders today myself to use my 40% off coupon, I believe the new Charlaine Harris book of shorts is out so I'm going to get that I think.....

message 35: by Lauren (new)

I went too and used my 40% off coupon
I got Tortured and Pleasure and Purpose

1241771 Was out cleaning the garage. Getting garage door replaced. Garage has been a major dumping ground for years. Found boxes of books from when we first moved in 20 years ago. Yes, books here! Mostly my husbands. Found an old book-should not have been left out there. "Lady of the Lake" bt Sir Walter Scott leatherbound puff padded Belford, Clarke@ Co Pub. No date found in book. Ther are at least 6 boxes of books out there.

Michelle - I've seen some of the Jordan Summers books but wasn't sure about them. Is this your first or have you read more? Do you like them?

message 39: by Joseph (last edited Oct 09, 2009 03:50PM) (new)

1313648 Ok, if I'm not a book buying addict, I don't know what is. Not only did I come home from the library with 8 more used books but I also got sucked in by that %40 off Borders coupon and got myself The Hunt Ball A Novel. I just tell myself its all for a good cause, the used book money goes to the library and I donated two dollars at Borders to the Illinois State Literacy Drive, and that money will end up going to my public library too. I did it for the books, and I did it for the books. :-)

Lucky you, my prob was everything kept jumping out at me, I couldn't decide what to get. In fact, I'm probably going to go back again tomorrow to grab another title I saw if it is still there.

2024916 Looloo, I haven't read anything by Jordan Summers yet. I've heard mixed reviews about Red, but I'll be sure to let you know:)

Nothing?! It's good that you didn't get something just because. My problem is that everything jumps out at me when I'm book shopping. Today, I bought a few : Succubus Blues by Richelle Mead (@ Walmart, I couldn't believe it!), Lover Eternal by J.R. Ward, Swoonby Nina Malkin, Trick of the Light by Rob Thurman, Belladonna by Anne Bishop, Mona Lisa Darkening by Sunny, and The Vampire Shrink by Lynda Hilburn. I also bought some used ones online that'll add the "bought in 10/09" shelf when they arrive, and two off of ebay thanks to Looloo! I know I've already over done it this month, and I was actually feeling guilty for about an hour or so.

message 45: by LooLoo (new)

2462844 Michelle - you are on a roll honey! LOL! I'm curious, how much was Succubus Blues? I'm wanting it but haven't found a hot deal yet. I also want to read The Vampire Shrink, please let me know what you think. And oh, I love the Mona Lisa books!!!

The Succubus Blues copy that I bought from Walmart is a mass paperback copy that was $4.57. I saw that the trade pb copy was $10 on Amazon, and I think $15 at Borders. I was just so shocked to see it Walmart that I grabbed it. Lately, I've noticed that a places like Walmart and the local grocery stores have carried a better selection in books, at least in my opinion. Kroger's, my local grocer has every book in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series except Lover Eternal. I ordered Vampire Shrink from BAM, which has become yet another place I can't pass by w/o stopping. I think there's more in that series that I want to get soon.

Lol! You know, I never buy any books for myself w/o buying at least one to donate to one of the local schools, or a program that helps children learn to read. Curious George books are my favorites to donate b/c that's how I started learning. I feel so much better about my book spree's now!

message 49: by Lauren (new)

790403 Joseph, I love that you did it for the books lol.

Suz nothing at all! Hubby was with me and just kept laughing at the titles and the covers of some of the books I wanted. next time I go alone lol

message 50: by Joseph (last edited Oct 10, 2009 05:38AM) (new)

1313648 Thanks to Looloo and Susan I found a fine solution to some of those books jumping out at me when I went to use my coupon at Borders. I just went to BookDepository and bought them cheaper there. I decided to grab the whole Walker Papers series while I could. With the way things are going, hopefully by the end of the month I'll still have some money left for food. lol
