Feel free to talk about the book here once you are finished.

Who all is reading the MGR this month?

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (DarkHeart) | 168 comments I read it earlier this year, so while I'm not rereading it now, I'll join in on the discussion.

Heck, I'll start it off. I'm a huge fan of this series, but this is my least favorite book of the series. Lachlain was just too overbearing, and as a result it took quite a while for me to warm to him. I loved the whole werewolf falling in love with a vampire angle though. And we get introduced the Nucking Futs Nix, which is brilliant.

I am staying away from picking books that I do not own. however that does not mean I won't have a copy in the future to read and join the discussion later. I read part of this and could not finish. The Valkyrie and history kept throwing me off. Then I found out there is a book before this that would be helpful if read first, lol. So anyway.

I had not seen anyone post and I was going to hi-jack the thread and talk about our favorite vamp themed series, but sense its a read til the end thread it might be a few days before anyone posts anyway.

message 5: by ♦Jennifer♦ (new)

♦Jennifer♦ (thejenneral) | 83 comments I also found Lachlain really overbearing for most of the first half of the book. I even was a little annoyed by Emmaline. She was just so weak in the beginning, but as she got stronger I found that her transformation from a meek person in the shadow of her aunts to a warrior was more satisfying because of the contrasts.

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (DarkHeart) | 168 comments Yeah, I think they're the weakest couple of the series, which is a shame considering it's the book that's supposed to hook you. However, it left me curious enough about series to continue (I wanted to read Bowen's story), and I think the series got stronger with each book.

message 7: by Joelle (new)

Joelle | 47 comments I am so glad I am not the only one who hated Lachlain and Emmaline. I understand that Lachlain went through a lot but he was still a little too much for my taste. Emmaline came across to me as more of a Lachlain puppet than anything else. All she was left to say is "Yes Lachlain Yes", even though she got stronger at that point I just couldn't like her. I just didn't get into the story; had to force myself to finish.

Sarah ~Sehrenity~ | 276 comments I just started this one today, but I'm really not digging it so far. Doesn't sound like it gets alot better. Has anyone read the whole series yet? I'm wondering if it's worth reading on after this one.

message 9: by Jan Lewis, (new)

Jan Lewis, Author Sidekick (authorsidekick) In my opinion, the rest of the series is MUCH better. Honestly, you could just skip the 1st book and you wouldn't really be lost.

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (DarkHeart) | 168 comments I've read the whole series, and I love it - but this first book was lacking.

I'm currently annoyed that this month's release in the series is in hardback. Grr...

Ohhh well...guess I wouldn't be reading that one till next year! But I will try to give the rest of the series a try and not get toooo jaded towards this author

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (DarkHeart) | 168 comments Yeah it's weird A Deep Kiss of Winter is a book with an IAD story and one of Gena Showalter's Alien Huntress stories - but I can't figure out why it's in hardback since the series aren't.

Definitely try another book in the series though Joelle, I promise they improve. =)

I haven't started this yet but you guys are making me not want to LOL

I will probably get to it after a couple of my other monthly books for this month hehe

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (DarkHeart) | 168 comments Oh no... it's not a bad book, honestly. It's just the weakest of a good series. =/

message 15: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ I read this a while ago and really enjoyed it. Like most books that I've read, I can't remember sh** about it. Other than I really liked Lachlain but then again I like that alpha agressive domineering male. (where can I get me one of those?) I also loved the introduction of Nucking Futs Nix. She's funny as hell in a demented kind of way.

message 16: by Joelle (new)

Joelle | 47 comments Just got a pre release of Deep Kiss of Winter, her story in it is not too shabby.. Now I see what Darkheart is talking about I am hooked!

message 17: by new_user (last edited Oct 13, 2009 06:02PM) (new)

new_user You guys should read it. As PNR fans, LOL. It's so popular. At least to see what the fuss is about.

message 18: by DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (last edited Oct 13, 2009 09:05PM) (new)

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (DarkHeart) | 168 comments Yay, Joelle! Just wait until you get to Cade's story, Dark Desires After Dusk. Yum.... ;)

Jamie ~ Bad Boy Inspector (Jamie_BadBoyInspector) I read this book a few months ago but I couldn't get in it at all. I have heard alot of good things about this series so I will eventually continue but I really hope they get better. I rarely ever don't get into a book but this one just didn't catch my interest at all.

message 20: by Carla (new)

Carla (Carla981) | 26 comments I read this book earlier this year, also. I remember well as the cover picture is a bit steamy and I work in a large casino where the break room (where I do most of my reading) is always packed with people, so I felt the need to make a "plain wrapper" cover for it, it then became the "green book" from that point forward. I remember liking it, but also having much confusion on the story line. I do want to read others from this series eventually, though.

message 21: by Teresa (new)

Teresa | 25 comments I just finished the latest book in this series this past week. I have to say that I wasn't paying attention to how many were left in the series and when I realized that Kiss of the demon king was the last I was so not happy. (Unless I'm wrong, please someone tell me I'm wrong.) I love this series. Nix is one of my most favorite characters ever. I have to agree with Dark hunter that Cade's story was my fave I think? The first was yeah a little much...but when he realizes what an ass he's been and everything about her past it was a little heartbreaking. And yes you can skip the first but, it explains allot about the Valkerie. I also sympathize with Carla about the covers. You should see me before family vacations trying to find books with non-embarrassing cover. I usually pick up something by Neil Gaimen...can never go wrong with him.

message 22: by Joelle (last edited Oct 15, 2009 07:56PM) (new)

Joelle | 47 comments The pre release I read is apart of the series but its an analogy in HARDCOVER. I can also relate the covers make it so I can't read some of them around the kids and since I spend majority of the times at work or around the kids reading times of what my husband as cALLS 'SMUT' are far in between. I find though that Iris Johnsen covers are very tame whether it be historical(old) or contemporary(new)

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (DarkHeart) | 168 comments Oh no, the series isn't ending, Teresa. You've just read all that have been released (with the exception of the new story in A Deep Kiss of Winter, and she recently made The Warlord Wants Forever a free download from her site. The next full book in the series, Pleasure of a Dark Prince is due out in February. Oh and she has confirmed Nix as being a character she plans to do a book on. Woohoo! ;)

Sarah ~Sehrenity~ | 276 comments I just finished A Hunger Like No Other last night. I'll continue reading the series, but man, did I have a hard time getting into this one! Lachlain really put me off with his attitude in the beginning, but he got better when he got over himself and started to listen to Emma. I didn't find Emma all that weak, so I didn't mind her as much.

message 25: by Yz the Whyz (new)

Yz the Whyz (whyz) | 232 comments Although I consider the IAD series a fave, I would always think of the first full-length novel of the series the weakest. Furthermore, I did not like Lachlain and Emma at all.

However, I was intrigued enough to continue reading, and I love the other books.

message 26: by ♦Jennifer♦ (new)

♦Jennifer♦ (thejenneral) | 83 comments I just started reading the second in the series, and I gotta say, so far it is way better than this first one.:)

message 27: by Brenda (new)

Brenda Backman | 13 comments Wow! I was really surprised by everyone's comments. I love this book, and have re-read it several times. Laclain is yummy and Emma comes into her own throughout the course of the book. It's such a great series. I just downloaded the latest book, which is several books into the series, and it's just as good as the first books. This is one of those great series that I put on my shelf and wait to forget enough of it so that I can rediscover it all over again.

I am finally going to be getting to this book, yes I know I am VERY late. I had things come up preventing me from reading as much.

I will chime in once I get a feel for the book :D

message 29: by Katt (new)

Katt I have mixed feeling about this book. Loved parts of it. Loved the concept and the characters. But some of it was confusing and I enjoy sex but it seemed to be a lot of the story.

I did not like Lachlain much either.

I started reading this book and then was disheartened by no story but plenty of sex talk.

I don't know whats wrong with me.. I used to LOVE tons of sex in my books.. and now when the topic is brought up I cringe and just want to get back to the plot.

I put this book down because it bothered me so bad that I didnt even get to know what the plot/story was before the sex crap started happening.

You know, the "Me man *grunt grunt* - you woman *grunt grunt* - you mine *grunt*".

Definitely not up my alley and I am highly disappointed because I have the whole series purchased because they came highly recommended :(

Lol I understand I think its when your over 25 you just go yeah sex is great, but where is the plot. And the men better realize woman are strong and independent. lol

I totally understand Tricia I myself used to feel let down if I read a book with no sex scene now its the total opposite, too much sex not even plot I am totally disheartened.

Although after six kids and a still very active sex life you would think I would enjoy the books anyway. As Katt said I think it has alot to do with your maturity level at the time of reading the book. Sex everyday in my life I NEED that; Sex on every page of 'my" romance DON't Need that!

Don't get me wrong ladies, I LOVE a good sex scene. I love the Anita Blake series if that tells you anything.

But I cant just open up a book and the first 3 pages be about sex..

I mean give me a few damn chapters before you throw it at me at least!! lol

I think the reason I love the sex so much in the Anita book is that I had 4 whole books of story and character building. And thats what I need to have first...
I can't stand the stories where two people just happen to fall in bed together without reason.
If I wanted porn I would read erotica hehe (which I do from time to time)

message 34: by Book Huntress (new)

Book Huntress (BookHuntress) | 84 comments Hi all, just finished the book last night (just under the wire) and have to say that it took a while to get going... not sure that I dislike Lachlain and Emmaline but they took a looooong time to "straighten out" - I mean I was irritated that she was so weak, but then there is the whole - JUST TALK TO EACH OTHER thing going on....

I think the biggest hurdle was probably that she didn't have the yearning for him like he had for her (just thinking of Wrath and Beth of the BDB) - he kind of forced her to and then it was kind of like watching Star Trek in that "oh I have to start wrapping this up" so.... she does want him, she is now strong, they love each other the end... plus the whole who is her father was SO obvious, although great fight scene.

I don't know I had a much better feeling at the end of the book than in the beginning and middle, but I have to say without the endorsements here, not sure I'd pick up another one - of course if I did see anything about "Nucking Futs Nix" I absolutely would!!! My god she was just fantastic - I actually read aloud one line of hers to my husband it was so great...

So just an OK book, not one of the greats, but worth it for a decent discussion...

I have heard the rest are so much better. So if you even remotely liked this one you should like the rest of them much more. At least from what I have heard about this series.

message 36: by Shay (last edited Oct 29, 2009 08:34AM) (new)

Shay Just Finished the series including A Deep Kiss of Winter. I started it as the MGR but couldnt stop reading!

A Hunger Like No Other was definitely my list favorite, b/c of Lachlains not very subtle walk on the border between a dominant manly man and a flat out rapist. i mean, he practically forced her at times! and the most annoying part was that after he found out she was a virgin he was sorry for how he treated her BECAUSE SHE WAS UNTUCHED!!! not b/c you just cant force a woman, but b/c he forced himself on a #$%@!@# VIRGIN! gggrrrrr...

but i kept reading and it got better and better. i like the way she keeps going back and foreword on the time line so all the books are happening approximately at the same time.

Cade and Rydstrom are my fav BTW, but mostly Sabine. she is awesome!

Yeah thats why I put the book down. I could tell in the first few pages what sort of man he was and I didnt like it at all.

If I do decide to read the series its going to be with book 2. I really have an issue with Alpha males and their grunty bullshit so its one of the main reasons this book didn't appeal to me.

There are SO many good books out there waiting to be read.. and I didnt see wasting the time with a book like this one.

message 38: by Yz the Whyz (last edited Oct 29, 2009 08:38AM) (new)

Yz the Whyz (whyz) | 232 comments Jennifer,

If I didn't persevere after reading A Hunger Like No Other, I would have missed out on a series that developed into a favorite. I recommend that you read the 2nd book first before abandoning IAD.

And yes, Nix is just hilarious.

If you have enough of alpha males, then you will probably like the next IAD book after A Hunger Like No Other.

The hero Sebastian is pretty beta in my opinion, and is quite adorable. You should check him out. He might change your mind about the series...*grins*

I definately will Yz :) I didn't plan to completely do away with the whole series.. I actually have all of the books at home already! lol

So I have to read them right?! /giggles

I am working on other books though, since right now I am on a non-romance kick.
