Chapter book about music

Hi! I teach music to children pre-k through 1st grade. I have one exceptional first grade this year that I would like to spend time reading a chapter book to, but I would like it to be about music. I know it's kind of specific, but does anyone know a good chapter book about music that would be appropriate for 1st graders? Thanks!!!
Hrm, this is a bit of a stumper for me. I know a few picture books that are music focused, but I can't think of any chapter books! Are you looking for something where a main character perhaps plays an intstrument? Or something else?
Any books with the main character as a musician. I stumped our school librarian too.:) The only book I can come up with is Trumpet of the Swan, but that's a little more than I'm looking to do. It's an all time favorite of mine though!
Oh, I love the Trumpet of the Swan too! I'm going to volunteer in my daughter's library tomorrow - I'll try to remember to ask the librarian there.
I too am having a little difficulty thinking of any specific titles. Have you considered easy-reader biographies of famous musicians, Jess? Or do you prefer fictional stories?
The Cricket in Times Square, of course!!!! :-)
Do you know the story? It is about a boy who has a cricket as a pet. The cricket can make beautiful music with his wings.
GREAT SUGGESTION!! Cricket in Time Square would be great!!! I have looked at easy reader biographies of composers and musicians and am just not thrilled with them. I will only be reading to the class when they finish all of the scheduled activities with time left in class and I thought they would be more eager to work towards fiction (or maybe it's just me! :)
Thanks, everyone!!!!! :)
How about "Trumpet of the Swans," by E.B. White. The swan can't honk so he learns to play the horn. It's a great book.
What about "Bud, Not Buddy"? It is a great story and as I recall there is quite a bit of music involved. It's been a while since I read it--can't remember how prominent the music parts are.
Magic Treehouse Moonlight on the Magic Flute It introduces kids to Mozart as a young child. Its a chapter book. Might be more than you are looking for though.
I have to check out Moonlight on the Magic Flute!! I know the Magic Treehouse books are big with some of our first graders so it sounds perfect! Thanks everyone for your help!
The Facts and Fictions of Minna Pratt Features an eleven-year-old cellist. Not sure if it's "too old" for your 1st grade, but it's a lovely book by Patricia MacLaughlin of "Sarah, Plain and Tall" fame. I think it's definitely one you will want to read!!!
Your suggestion, Bri Meets Books, reminds me of a lovely collection of folktales I read a while back, all focused on music. It was called Play Me A Story: Nine Tales About Musical Instruments, and might be another selection that would meet your needs, Jess!
