434780 Karyn,

Forgot to post this, but I did finish Full Moon Rising on the last day of October, and I enjoyed it very much. I've added the rest of the series under my TBR file. Definitely would want to hear more about Riley's adventures and that yummy vamp Quinn.

Thanks for the recommendation.

2304495 Stayce - just wanted to let you know that I finally finished Markedby P C Cast. I liked it - in fact I have ordered the 2nd book in the series - Im hooked, had to find out what happens next. Thanks for the recommendation.

2390440 With 1 1/2 hours left I finished my October pick it for me book! It wasn't my most favorite book ever, but I suspect it suffered from being my rebound book after finishing all the BDB books. But I liked it enough to continue the rest of the series next month.

434780 Karyn,

Just letting you know that I finally got my copy of Keri Arthur's Full Moon Rising. I'm currently reading it, and keeping my fingers crossed, hope to finish it before the month ends.

So far, the prose is beautiful and very readable. Pretty intriguing characters, too, especially that vamp Quinn.

Oh yeah i remember those, i won't be touching those any time soon. I remember that i just finished reading quite a bit of harlequin books and needed a change. That's probably why i read them all the way through.

Always the worry - I try to avoid watching my favourite TV shows from childhood...

2390440 I really enjoyed She Went All the Way, it was a stand alone. The one I wanted to throw was Every Boy's Got One, it was the third one in the "boy" series, where everything was written as emails. It was cute the first book, it was barely tolerable in the second, and by the 3rd, I was ready to chuck the book across the room. I finished it though, because I was in bed sick at the time, and my resources were limited.

Meg Cabot's pretty much hit or miss for me. And it's VERY true, I've got to be in the right mindset to enjoy them because it seems all of her heroines are variations of the same. BUT when I do find one I enjoy, I really REALLY enjoy it.

I wonder if it was the same i had to put back on it's shelve to read for later?LOL
The first was good but somehow by the second book and knowing there was going to be a third i just couldn't figure out what was wrong with the heroine!

LOL. I understand completely, it took me a bit at the beginning to get into it but after i couldn't put it down. She seems to have that effect on people though, some will really like it from the very beginning while others not so much.
I have also found that i need to be in a certain mindset when reading chic-lit these days. Otherwise i keep thinking how annoying the heroines are...LOL

message 123: by Tara (new)

2390440 I agree, it was a little perfect, perfect, but this one is written with every other chapter being from the little girls POV and the other being from the Mom, it's interesting. It made me cry.

I didn't know that! (**another one butting in - ah those nosy goodreaders**) Thanks Tara. I too kinda liked that book, the Hollywood limelight parts were a little much to be believable, but other than that...

2512735 Hey Lily, thank you for picking A Red-Tainted Silence by Carolyn Gray. You did a great job getting that one, there's nothing i like more than to see great connection between the characters and just the right amount of drama to keep me glued. It was quite emotional and i have to say rarely it happens where i feel like crying and slapping a hero or heroine at the same time.LOL

After am done with my other challenges i think i'll read your other recommendations too. Again thanks and you can pick any other recs for me anytime.

2640658 Annie, I'm so glad you liked it. I'm sure you will enjoy Anansi Boys just as much.

I remember Job: A Comedy of Justice fondly. But it has been some time since I've been back to visit the Heinlein books I read as a youth. 20+ years will certainly change your perspective on books.

123404 Hey Photojim! Just finished American Gods on the bus into work this morning. It's fab! Thanks for 'making' me finally read it... anytime soon will be Anansi Boys!
Even though I've been struggling to read (shocking, I know!), and have been gravitating towards short books - it was wonderful to have a good book to wallow in for extended periods. I will admit, however, to reading other books at the same time.
Having studied Old Norse for a couple of years - and Old English - and have runes tattooed around my ankle - it was great reading another 'take' on the mythology.
My recommendation for a vaguely similar book is Job A Comedy of Justice by Heinlein.

I know! The 'problem' with young adult books! Well, the 'old-style' pre-Harry 600+ page books...

1504904 Annie I just finished Dragon's Bait - loved it. Another good one from Vivian Vande Velde. My only complaint is that it's a little on the short side, I could have used a longer story - greedy, am I not?

882302 Mel W, as you saw in another thread I did get my hands on a copy of The dragon thief. Thanks so much for the suggestion. I loved it! Finished the book with a big smile on my dial which is my favourite way to finish any book. I've already reserved no. 2 at work so am looking forward to that. Thanks again =)

Okay, LL, let me see what I can come up with. It's almost 1am for me so I'll get on it first thing tomorrow.

Edit: These were the other books I originally recommended along with The Smoke Thief ...

1. Untouched by Anna Campbell
2. Undead and Unwed by MaryJanice Davidson
3. Mona Lisa Awakening by Sunny

Here's a couple more I've just thought of:

Rescue Me by Christy Reece
Naked in Death by JD Robb

If you need more suggestions, let me know. Right, definitely going to bed now :)

123404 EEK! 12 days!!! That's what happens, I suppose, when you're away from home for nearly 3 weeks... and don't read while away.

message 102: by Photojim (new)

2640658 Is it too early to ask to be put on the list for the November - Pick It For Me! Challenge list? Yeah, it probably is, but it made me realize that I have twelve days left to read four books to finish all my challenges here.

Yz,
I have now finished both of your recommended reads
Shadow Game by Christine Feehan and Slave to Sensation by Nalini Singh. I really enjoyed both series and have added both series to my TBR pile.

message 99: by LibraryLass (new)

882302 Mel W, I may need a backup list as the only book I can source is The smoke thief (which I really want to read) but am away on holiday and the book is overdue to be returned to my library, so may not get it in time. Can you give me another title or two and I can read one of those. (Don't want to not finish the challenge)

2304495 Hi Kasia - thanks for the update on Stacey's recommedation - I have just returned from Portland Maine so I have been out of touch with what has been happening here -
Stacey, thank you for the recommendation I will hunt for this book soon.
Thanks again

2483962 Sallie...it looks like we have a lot of books in common, but as far as I can tell you have read one of my favorite series. It is a young adult series called the House of Night series.

The first book is Marked by P.c. Cast and Kristen Cast. I would highly recommend this book.

1504904 Sallie!

Sorry this is comming this late, but I got a reply from Stayce. (We have to some communication issues because I asked for a post here, not a personal message, but hey, I'll take anything). So here's the PM from Stayce:

I am so sorry...I forgot.

I would recommend Sallie to read Marked by P.C.Cast & Kristen Cast

325271 Thanks for the heads up Valerie...I think I would have been put off had I not known that! I would have picked the book up expecting the storyline to move forward not repeat. I really liked the short story and the world so I would love a whole book getting to know it better, so to speak.

I am a fan of the Drake Sisters series and the World of Lupi series by Eileen Wilks. Just a heads up - the first complete book in the World of Lupi series,
Tempting Danger, is basically a re-write of the short story with LOTS of changes. I still enjoy the series but that was disappointing to me.

message 89: by Mel W (new)

471724 Melissa, I loved Feehan's Drake Sisters' series :)

message 88: by Melissa (new)

325271 I finished two of the stories in the Lover Beware anthology. I am definitely going to read Feehan's Drake Sisters series. What a great start Magic in the Wind was. I'm a fan of her writing anyways and have always been curious about this series. I really liked Eileen Wilks' story too. It was loaded with background/world building, but it made me want to start that series so I can see what a full book is like.

Great pick, Tosca! Thanks!

Tosca, I agree that there just isn't a good time to not tell someone they have children. I liked Simply Irresistible, but I spent half the book wanting to smack the heroine. (review finally posted)

1504904 Sallie!

I've noticed Stacey hasn't made her recommendations yet. (I've sent her a reminder, but she's offline last couple of days, and we're moving further and further into October...) Hopefully S. will jump in soon, but in the meantime, in case you needed a recommendation - would you take one from me? I'm thinking: The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. It's a really gripping and touching adventure. I had a blast with it.
