2568379 Wish I hadn't missed this earlier, but it was nice to read the commentary and see the pics. :) I'm quite new to her work and was quite interested to read about her own favourite authors on Infloox. Am definitely going to have a look at some of her other work after seeing that I like a lot of the same books/writers as her.

369169 Kathy, yeah, it was quite the experience! I will certainly remember this for a long time to come :)

Thanks Loretta!

122011 Lori, thanks so much for sharing your experience and the pictures - very cool!

971945 Wow, Lori, what a great time you must have had in NYC! The pictures are wonderful, getting to meet Audrey and go to the penthouse--I'm turning 10 shades of green with envy. I started Her Fearful Symmetry last night and am so enjoying it. I have posted some pictures of different authors and myself on my profile, but I haven't yet been to a penthouse with one. So awesome!

Suzanne, thanks :) you are making me blush!

199350 How exciting for you! And what a gorgeous office place Regal Literary is. I don't know how they get any work done as it has that feel of wanting to curl up with a good book and read for hours!

2404802 Yay!!! Our fearless leader on her fabulous conquest ... and to top it all off, Lori, you are GORGEOUS!!!♥

369169 Great news too.. The group will remain open for Audrey to check in with. She said she will be busy across the ocean for the next few weeks, but will peek in every now and then and continue to answer questions!!!!

369169 I am back from my trip to NYC. Meeting her and attending the reading was amazing!

I went to the penthouse, which is Regal Literary's homebase... We got to see the view from the roof while we waited for Audrey, and talked a bit with Michael Strong, the man who made it all happen.

Then Audrey showed up, and I thanked her from the bottom of my heart for all her time and asked her some questions like how the tour was going (she started in Chicago and its been relatively good so far), and what place she has visited that she loves the best (Germany), and told her that I am now slightly obsessed with wanting to visit cemetery's now, and she invited me to London when she gets back into hosting tours at Highgate (ha ha ha)..

Then she signed my two novels, and I had to scootch out, she had a pile of books Michael needed her to sign before the reading at BN....

At the reading, I was sitting right up front, and even got to ask her a question (yes, how rash! I had one and one time, and I asked a question at the reading!) but everyone there was asking questions on TTW and I wanted to hear more about HFS... so I asked if she had experienced any supernatural stuff touring at the cemetery or anywhere else, if that was what prompted her to write such a haunting beautiful story.... (her anwer? Some people are naturally receptive to ghosts, but she believes her radio dial is shut off...)

Then I bought her two illustrated novels (3 Instesteous Sisters, and The Adventuress) - A whopping 60 bucks for those things! and let the boys bring them up to have her sign them for me! While they were doing that, Michael Strong called me over to introduce me to Audreys Editor, who loved my question to Audrey and the fact that I prefered HFS to TTW.... and we talked a little about Goodreads!!!!!

I have pictures to post, I am downloading them as I write this!!!

It was really such a cool and wonderful trip!

It does! We have already such a high feeling about books but thanks to this they are even more alive, beautiful, special... .
Thanks!

message 75: by Jo (new)

2457455 I have read all of her comments and have found it very insightful. Good work Lori!

message 74: by Lori, Super Mod (new)

369169 I think it adds a whole new dimension to book-reading, doesnt it? Being able to ask the author specific questions about how it came about, what influenced them, and what their impressions are of their own characters?????? Wonderful!

message 73: by Jeane (new)

1530627 You are doing great Lori!!! It is really wonderful to have questions answered by her!

369169 And you guys are all very welcome :)

message 67: by Lori, Super Mod (new)

369169 Ahhhh. yes. Meghan, I dont know why I did not think of that. I will do that tonite when I have time, after work!

message 66: by Meghan (new)

199350 Thanks again for setting this all up Lori. It was a lot of fun reading her responses and asking some of my own questions.

If you haven't signed up, you'll definitely want to.

message 65: by Meghan (last edited Sep 26, 2009 12:17AM) (new)

199350 Lori - May I suggest that when you schedule the interview with Audrey, you use the event link? I think you would be able to email all the members that way, and then you won't have to worry that someone may miss it if they forget to check the thread.

You might want to use the events here and that way you can email all the members of this group. Thn everyone will know about this other link, in case they didn't check out this thread.

I did hear back today. Evidently, I didn't become a fan correctly, but they were nice enough to send the link I needed. I think I'm in now.

Lisa, I sent an email two days ago and just heard back. Hope you hear back from them soon.

Good luck. I hope to read that one of us won a copy of this book. It sounds really good, doesn't it?

message 60: by Lori, Super Mod (new)

Hi Melissa and Lisa. It took them just over 24hrs. to reply to my email entry for the book, so maybe wait a bit yet??

message 54: by Lori, Super Mod (new)

369169 BTW, for those of you within driving distance to NYC she will be there OCt5th. I dont have many details, but she will in B&N's in Union Square at 7pm, methinks!

message 53: by Lori, Super Mod (new)

369169 It is looking rough for a live chat at the moment. Michael, her agent, tells me she will be checking in on the group as she gets time next week to answer as many questions as she can....

I am happy to have her there at all :)
This is so exciting!!!

369169 http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/2485...

This is the group that has been created for the Author Q&A. We are still waiting on a final confirmation for dates and times, but in the meantime, pop over there, get yourself settled, and post some questions!

Be sure to read the rules and guidelines before posting please!

message 51: by Cindy (new)

2493714 Sounds great to me, Lori! Thanks for all your efforts.

message 50: by Lori, Super Mod (last edited Sep 24, 2009 12:47PM) (new)

369169 Ok, In talking to her agent, we are looking like this is a GO!

Here is how I am planning to run this:

~I will create a new group specifically for Audrey. When the group is ready, I will link it here.

~I will have folders and threads set up based on topic. Please do not ADD any threads. We will work with what I set up, this way the group remains neat and clean, with little to no confusion.

~Please pre-post your questions so Audrey has some questions to begin answering. As I understand it, she will be logging in and out as she has time for the beginning of the week (Sept28th).

~Sometime during the middle of the week, we will be hosting a LIVE 30 MINUTE CHAT with Audrey within the new group!!! Looks like the time will be set for somewhere between 8-9pm EST. Is that ok with everyone? I know with all the different time zones it will be difficult to get ALL of us together, but I am trying to make it as late as possible to get as many people online together as possible.

What do you think......

Lisa,

I was thinking the same thing. I sent an email but didn't get a response either. :(

message 48: by Lisa (new)

1151972 Hmm. I sent a message last night to enter, but didn't get a response. I wonder if I should sent another??

message 47: by Jennifer (new)

2268561 The other Jennifer was right. You need to become a fan of Her Fearful Symmetry. Then, I e-mailed hfs@regal-literary(dot)com to tell them I became a fan on facebook. I received an email telling me that I was entered for the facebook contest. I hope this helps!!!

message 46: by Lori, Super Mod (new)

369169 great detective skills Jennifer!

I went to the regal literary facebook page but everytime I tryed to send them a message, it would error me out. Weird.

Good luck everyone.

On a sad note, I have not yet heard from Michael on the status of the Q&A. Hopefully they contact me tomorrow. Keep those fingers and toes crossed !!!

message 45: by Petra (new)

1733683 Thanks, Jennifer! I followed your directions. I hope to get a confirmation email soon, too.

Good luck!
