Can you give us some examples of other books you have read or authors you have liked that would fit with what you are looking for?
What about Pretty Little Dirty? I haven't read it yet but I've had it in my book pile for a while after reading a good review about it in Entertainment Weekly.
I'll have to check that out, thanks for the suggestion.Hmm, as for examples...I think of Tony O'Neill's works...Cristy C. Road...
And more mainstream, Irvine Welsh and Chuck Palahniuk.
Lavinia, would you consider Anne Prolux's stories, such as Close Range Wyoming Stories, as edgy fiction? I think they are, but that may be just because they are so different from the other things I read.
That sounds very interesting. I am going to check that out. Thanks for the suggestions Rachel and Kelly Jo!
If you like Chuck Palahniuk, I recommend Natsuo Kirino--Out, Grotesque--and Haruki Murikami--After Dark is the only book of his I have read but it was quite interesting and "out there".
Yes, I have heard a lot of great things about Haruki Muriakmi. Anybody ever check out James Joyce at all?
The only book I've read that may fit what you're looking for is The Sunday List of Dreams by Kris Radish; middle aged woman embraces her sexuality after discovering that her daughter is the owner of a very successful sex toy business. Not sure if this is what you have in mind.
OMG, Lavinia, I haven't read any James Joyce since high school! I seem to remember A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man as being a bit weird.
Have you tried any Bret Easton Ellis ? I like Chuck P and recently read American Psycho and loved it. Very graphic though
Kafka on the shore......by Haruki Murakami it was unlike any book i had read before...great. i highly recommend it
After Dark is a great Murakami book as is The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle. Anything by Murakami rocks! When you said Edgy it made me think of some of the postmodern books I read in college, like,
Holy Smoke by Fanny Howe
The Jade Cabinet by Rikki Ducornet
Is it Sexual Harassment Yet? by Cris Mazza
The Talking Room by Marianne Hauser
I don't know if these qualify as edgy, but they are definitely different and a bit out there which I think makes them rather fascinating.
how about Here Kitty Kitty: A Novel or Wasted Beauty: A Novel i read those a while ago, but they were pretty decent reads...
Hey all, Jo's got some really cool book ideas too if ever you're interested in going to her for suggestions. Plus she likes some really great music. Nadia, thanks for those suggestions. That one book called "Is it sexual harassment yet?" sounds fricken sweet. I definitely have some new material to check out soon.
Monika, Wasted Beauty sounds pretty great too. I'm all about reading and writing gritty stuff. Thanks all for the suggestions! By the way, you spell your name hella cool!

Dubliners is great! I highly recommend it!Also, I agree with the Murakami recommendations. Kafka on the Shore was a really interesting book. I have the Wind Up Bird Chronicle, but haven't gotten to it yet.
I would also recommend anything by A.M. Homes. She is a quirky author and her books could best be described as dark and gritty. I recommend "This Book Will Save Your Life" and "Music for Torching." The latter involves a couple who decides to light their house on fire and the aftermath
music for torching sounds cool. yeah, Murakami's great and so's James Joyce. : )nice to meet all you well-rounded readers!
