Matthew, there's actually another post for this task already (under Roseann's task) and I think they might have talked about a few good books for engineering in there :)

The only thing I could think of for engineering was Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman, Richard Feynman's biograpy is fun, followed by his What Do You Care What Other People Think.

I imagine there were engineers involved with the creation of the World Fair: The Devil in the White City Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair that Changed America
Ah, engineering. What type? I'm a Civil Engineer, and for the Spring Challenge (in which we had a similar task), I read Pompeii: A Novel by Robert Harris. It's about the destruction of Pompeii (thanks, Mt. Vesuvius!) as told from the perspective of the engineer who's in charge of the aqueducts in that region, and how he realizes something is wrong before the other people do, thanks to his engineering smarts! For this challenge, I'm thinking about reading The Sand-Reckoner by Gillian Bradshaw, which is another historical fiction novel, this time about Archimedes. He was DEFINITELY an engineer... :)
Other than those... I have some lovely textbooks you could borrow! Reinforced Concrete? Elementary Soil Mechanics? Design of Small Dams? Hydrology? They're pretty dry reading...

I am reading this now and it should work for that! It is a heavy non-fiction, but great!

What!! Hydrology is dry!!! Say it isn't so.
Hahahaha! I don't care how many times I hear that joke, it will NEVER get old! I love it!I actually REALLY LOVE my hydrology textbook. Or rather, I love that when I started the checking the prices for my textbooks that semester, I found it online from Barnes and Noble for 80% off... It was only like $20.00. I felt like I was stealing it... legally.
