Sometimes I see Spade as a more refined man, but I haven't found the PERFECT Spade yet. I thought Collin Farrell was the perfect Spade after a good fight or maybe if he's getting ready seduce and get busy with a lady!

1148308 I found the first two books in the library and i absolutely LOVED them. I've read the all four now and i must have read the first chapter for Spade's story about ten times. I can't wait for it to come out, why does February have to be so far away!!!

The cover is at the beginning followed by the chapter. I haven't read the chapter yet.

1488662 Yeah, even when Ian was being bad he was attractive--one of those you love to hate. Gotta love the bad boys!

2408497 Yeah i'm right there with you too Flib! I really liked all the guys in this series, Ian even grew on me eventually ;)

I don't think you are silly at all :P I think Ian had some degree of hotness. Love the bad boys ;-)

message 76: by FlibBityFLooB (new)

2505272 Suz -- I'm happy to hear you enjoyed the series! I think Jeaniene needs more fans. I want the books in hardcover. hehe :)

Cherra - I think I like all the male characters in the series... Even think I secretly thought Ian was sexy when he was being all bad-boy in book 2. Silly me! ;)

I loved Vlad too! Actually, come to think of it, I really liked most of her male characters. Even if they started out a sneaky snake they generally tend to end up on a good note--like Ian for instance.

2446676 They sound more and more like a paranormal romance spin off series rather than urban fantasy.

1488662 Andrea wrote: "I loved these books. Does anyone know whe the next book comes out? "

Hi Andrea! According to her website, books 5, 6 and 7 do not have scheduled release dates yet. The good news is she is writing a spin off series and the first book in that series is due out in Feb of 2010--here are the details from her website:

Night Huntress World

The Night Huntress World novels are "spin-off" books where side characters in the Night Huntress series are now the hero/heroine of their own novels. The first spin-off book will feature Spade (a.k.a. Charles) as the main character. The second spin-off book will feature Mencheres as the main character. These books will be stand-alone novels, not the start of a new series, and will be set in current times with their story lines running parallel to the Night Huntress series. More spin-off stories featuring side characters are planned. Books 1 and 2 are scheduled to be out in Feb & Sept of 2010.

2496970 I loved these books. Does anyone know whe the next book comes out?

message 66: by Starling (new)

2446676 Fever is the most recent series of this kind for me as well.

message 65: by Cherra (new)

1488662 Starling, I agree. I am pleased with the progression of the Night Huntress series.

I don't mind a predictable plot/outcome if that is what I am expecting--like in the Psy-Changling Series by Nalini Singh or even BDB by J.R. Ward and the Midnight Breed series by Lara Adrian. Although there is a little back story that links book to book, it is basically the same story with different characters. Don't get me wrong, I have read and love the previously mentioned series, but I tend to get a little bored with them. But the series with the major cliffhangers, like The Fever series by Moning Karen Marie--they really drive me to madness...but I still love them!

message 64: by Starling (new)

2446676 Cherra, most of the series where it is the same story over and over again are the HEA paranormal romances. It is one of the reasons I tend not to read a whole bunch of those, paranormal or not. I've got a couple of historical romance authors who have no problem pulling it off and keeping me interested, but none of the paranormal romance writers I've read so far seem to be able to do it.

But when it is urban fantasy, whether or not the HEA has happened as it has in The Night Huntress series, you keep reading because you want to know what happens next.

Even wanting to know what happens next is different if the series is open ended like The Night Huntress, or closed. If the series is a closed one, I mostly want to wait until the last book is out to read the series. With an open ended series, plot lines and arcs can go over several books, but you aren't stuck with a unrelieved plot device to deal with while you are waiting.

message 63: by Cherra (new)

1488662 I was totally surprised by the twists. I actually thought Destined for an Early Grave had a lot of new situations for the characters to deal with--which, I think is crucial for a series. A lot of times books in a series are basically the same situations in a different book. You know what I mean? At that point, I typically finish the series just to satisfy my curiosity, but I think Frost is doing a good job with developing the story line. I can wait for Spade's book to come out and of course the 5th in the series!

message 62: by FlibBityFLooB (new)

2505272 Cherra -- were you surprised with some of the twists in Destined for an Early Grave?

2271580 My son is turning 3 on sunday and we are having his party at Chuck E Cheese. I don't think I'm going to make it through the day without thinking about the part in At Grave's End.

message 57: by Cherra (new)

1488662 For those of you who haven't read book #4, this isn't giving anything away, but Spade is discussing with someone (can't remember who) how Tate is still alive with all his flirting with Cat. He says the only reason Tate is still alive is b/c Bones knows how much Tate means to Cat--like a brother to her and he feels that Tate is no real threat to their relationship. So, pretty much as we thought...

message 56: by Tara (new)

2390440 I agree! I'd love to see it done well! I think it would be best to wait until all 7 of the books to come out and then make the screenplays, that way if something does get cut, they won't something important.(although in my opinion it's all important...)

2763463 Oh nice point. Most books that have been made into movies were overdone a bit i guess. Even when i think of more recent films like Twilight and New Moon - I mean they put things in the movie that didn't even happen in the book! thats why i prefer reading to watching the movie.

I'd really hate it if they decided to make Halfway To The Grave a movie and then mucked it up with too much blood and gore or over dramatized the "vampires are evil" theme and turned it into a tacky horror movie

message 54: by Ann (new)

426768 However, in addition to not wanting the G version--we also don't want a butchered version either. Think True Blood (while I do watch it, periodically I just cringe with what they've done to the books), think Bourne, think--well, every single book that has ever been made into a movie. Since I'm never going to be a famous author (altho I DO have a nice collection of rejection slips) I can say and hold firm to the idea that I'D never just sell my book to Hollywood and NOT keep final control of it. :o)

2763463 Oh i totally agree, every time a plot was revealed i thought Tate was in on it. Especially when he tried to make a move on Cat after they thought something happened to Bones. Big ups to Cat for stabbing him! :D

Yeah I'd love to see it as a movie or something similar. oh and definitely dont want the G rated version either lol.

message 52: by Stephanie (new)

1571402 Good point, ya he's definitely a protector of her and die for her (although she's stronger than him). But everytime I'm reading about a bad guy coming after them, I'm always suspicious of Tate and waiting to find out if he's involved and giving out her location or something.

Anyways - is it 2010 yet?! Can't wait for the new books! I'd love to see this story on the big screen, or even HBO - not regular TV, I don't want the G rated version :)

message 51: by FlibBityFLooB (new)

2505272 I'm bummed out because I've worn out my paperbacks in this series. I hope they come out in Hardcover...

2763463 I wander if Bones is cutting Tate a lot more slack partly because of what happened with Annette when she first showed up? I mean she was doing the same thing that Tate's doing now - all the taunting and the flirting. Only difference is Tate doesn't have any previous experiences with Cat to hang around Bones neck. I also think Tate is still around because Bones knows that Tate would die protecting Cat, and lets face it, he cant argue with that.

message 49: by Cherra (new)

1488662 I am so excited! I discovered that the 4th book went straight to paperback--this entire time, I have been waiting for it from the library! I bought it today...can't wait!

message 48: by Ann (new)

426768 Personally I think that the only reason Bones hasn't killed him is because he feels that Cat views Tate as kind of a big brother type character (even tho Tate wants more.) And we all know how us girls feel about our big brothers right? (Hey, I can call him all the names I want--but nobody ELSE is allowed to even look at him crosseyed. And yeah, I DO have a big brother.) Also, Bones wants Cat to be happy, and since she DOES think of Tate as a good friend (and since Bones has friends of his own that he's fought with, and made up with) he's willing to cut Tate a lot more slack than he would anyone else.

message 47: by Stephanie (new)

1571402 Ya I agree that their friendship has saved him too, but he sure does push it a lot, and as possessive as Bones is....I'm just saying I'm curious what's going to happen with him in the plot. Oh I've read all the books - this is like my favorite vamp series!

message 46: by Cherra (new)

Stephanie--which book are you on? I think the only think that has saved Tate so far, is that he and Cat are close and she doesn't indulge his fantasies. If she were returning the flirtation I think Bones would kill him--but he knows that Tate is no competition for him.

message 45: by Stephanie (new)

1571402 So what does everybody think of Tate? I'm surprised Bones never did kill him, he sure did push his luck - especially in the limo scene! I sort of kept expecting him to work with somebody else and try to kill Bones. Can't wait to see what she does with him in the next book.

2763463 HI, i just joined goodreads and found this discussion going on and just had to comment. I have just finished reading At Graves End (literally)and it was AMAZING! Just as good as the first two. Can't wait to start in on Destined For An Early Grave. Oh and I'm definitely going to get First Drop Of Crimson as Spade is one of my favourite characters.

As far as characters for a movie go, i think Oded Fehr is a perfect choice for Mencheres. I also thought of Kellan Lutz to play Tate, Taylor Kitsch to play Ian or Spade, Maybe Danneel Harris as Cat, although im not too keen on her voice. They are all actors, you can look up their pics on www.imdb.com. Just type in their names in the search bar and pics sould come up. As for Bones, i had my own image. No actor springs to mind sadly.

message 43: by Tara (new)

2390440 I LOVE that you started this thread, and that I found it. None of my friends have read this series, but I actually heard about it on a Sookie Stackhouse podcast. I just happened to start it the day before the 4th book came out which was perfect because I read them in 4 days!

When I was reading it I'm with Cherra, he was kind of not anyone specific, like a dream. He was Mark Wahlberg's body, with Spike from Buffy's hair and a face most closely resembling Wentworth Miller. But his voice was always David Anders.

But I had a clear picture of Tate and it was always Enver Gjokaj for the TV Show Dollhouse.

message 42: by Ann (new)

426768 Fortunately my library is available on-line for checking out, reserving and suggesting books. I've put in a couple of suggestions. I found a book that looked interesting at the library (ok, I checked it out because of the title, hey, that's allowed, right?) Got it home, read it and discovered it was like book 4 in a series. But when I went on line to reserve the rest of the series, the library didn't have ANY of them. So when I took the book back, I went to the reference desk (where you turn in "in person" recommendations) and told the librarian there about it. So she promptly put down to get the first 4. Still haven't seen them, and I DID find the first 3 at a used bookstore, so I managed to get the entire series read. :ol

message 41: by Tonya (new)

2139765 Ann...who knows. I did mention it to the check out lady and she thought it was weird too. She gave me a number to call and said to request the books, which I didn't know you could do. Nice to know, but to late at this point because I need those books now!

message 40: by Ann (new)

426768 I know what you mean Tonya--I wound up having to do that too. Maybe its a rule that libraries are only allowed to hang onto the first and last of a series???

message 39: by Tonya (new)

2139765 I have read Halfway to the Grave (Night Huntress, #1)and I absolutely loved it!!! I now have to go buy the next two since the library only has the 1st and last book in the series (kind of weird). I am totally hooked on this series and can't wait to read the next three, so it's off to the book store tomorrow.

message 38: by Ann (new)

426768 oohhh--what about giving James Earl Jones an English accent. Now THAT is a voice that would be wonderful for Bones. That man has a seriously sexy voice. Or what about Barry White? He's another one with a seriously sexy voice. Hum, what if we picked an actor with the LOOK and then had someone do a voice over for Bones? I mean, there are a few actors who might LOOK right, but the voice isn't. Since this is a dream casting, we can do that, right?

message 37: by Susan (new)

2429588 Yes, Ann, Ben Cross has the most wonderful speaking voice!
