Haha, I'm a big fan also. I'm trying to decide if I want to read her for this task or for the superhero task as she's been a longtime hero of mine.
I am reading Complications A Surgeon's Notes on an Imperfect Science. He also wrote Better A Surgeon's Notes on Performance.
Some interesting science books I've read, and ones that don't require a degree in chemistry or physics, are -

I recently read The World Without Us which discusses what would happen to the planet if humans were to disappear tomorrow. Its truly fascinating and I actually ranked it as one of my favorite books of the year. I highly recommend it if you are looking for a book for this category.

You could find a book about something that you're interested in... say you're interested in electricity - there are some good books about Tesla out there, etc.
What type of science books would you define as acceptable for this task? Amazon.com isn't too clear since when I click on Science books pulls social sciences, math and philosophy books. Hmm.
