As Autumn 2009 is now officially winding down and Winter arrives in 8 days, I wanted to check in with everyone to see how we've done with our Autumn goals! My goals of continued purging, organizing and finishing the spare room have gone fabulously and I've even made a huge dent in re-organizing the basement. My writing & knitting goals are still a bit off but I'll keep working on them this Winter!
Carrie, I'm so happy for you! I keep thinking of that song by Barbara Streisand & Bryan Adams..."I finally found someone..." I finally found someone, that knocks me off my feet -I finally found the one, that makes me feel complete.....Oh, I finally found someone -Someone to share my life - I finally found the one, to be with every night...
; )
Thanks. I'm not getting off my butt until mid-November to get those needed filing boxes. It's break time for BAKING!
1. 2. Go through stacks of paperwork and organize in a nice filing system
3.
4. Bake
5.
6. Read 20 books before year is out (and move faster with Fall Reading Challenge)
8. Holiday Gift Purchases/Making!

Autumn Goals update:
#5 - Complete a "short story" I've been writing for a long time
#6 - Let go...

Jo, you'll have to upload pics of your sewing/knitting projects as they progress. By the way, I decided against buying the sewing machine. I can just see me now crying over botched sewing proejcts then lugging the gosh darn thing up to the attic where it'll never be seen again. So many good intentions are stored up there :o)
Uhuru, I was so proud of myself too when I knit my first scarf a few years ago. And I still am every time I finish one! It's a contented sense of accomplishment. I love it! My Mom gave me to gorgeous skiens of yarn today and I can't wait to start a new scarf with them!
Whenever I knit or hand sew, I feel such a connection to the past, to my Nana and further back. It's something Women have done for generations & centuries and I love feeling a part of that.
I'm still getting the hang of practicing on my new "basic" sewing machine (honestly, it's giving me a headache) but my friend is relearning to machine quilt and is going to teach me after New Year's so I'm excited for that!

Sarah, Last year I crocheted my very first project - a scarf. I finished in time for a trip to D.C. on what was probably one of their coldest nights of the year. Felt so proud of myself :)Just looked at more yarn on Saturday and a sewing machine by the way. Keep picturing myself clothing my entire family with homemade goods. I Wish you the best on your goals!
Okay, I've made some very small progress...
- Still cleaning and sorting to do, but we've gotten enough done that I feel comfortable and at home at the new place.
- Actually, I didn't carve because I heard that pumpkins were going bad this year. But I did decorate them!
~Crochet a long, cozy scarf.
~Buy (and learn how to use) a sewing machine.
~Christmas shop.
~Get hot apple cider from Borders (it's soooo good!)
~Buy a long, red coat for the winter.
~Go to a big state park after the leaves have turned and take lots of pictures.
Still more to aim for, but I'm trying not to stress about it. That would defeat the purpose!

* Get started on my holiday shopping and the boys holiday craft gifts.
* Get my holiday cards started. (I never get them sent out because I always run out of time)
* Search for a new arts & crafts hobby.
I got a few things done. Apple picking didn't work with the weather. But all in all, Yay!!
Finished #3 (record voice-over demo) on my goal list of 6.
Had a complete meltdown yesterday however... Couldn't find the passwords for my copyright material. Have no idea where I put them - probably someplace "safe" no doubt. ARRGH! Who needs enemies when you've got yourself as saboteur?
Thankfully today is a new day. Gonna put that disappointment behind and forge ahead into the hours before me.
Happy Sunday ladies!
No worries! Don't get down on yourself for what you don't accomplish on your lists! Look at everything you've accomplished that's Not on your list! See what worked or didn't work with your list for next season and try again. (There's still plenty of Autumn left too). Not every last thing needs to be on your list either. Use it as a starting point and go from there.
Mandy, you have been busy! You have accomplished So Much with & for your children (and yourself!) recently that you don't need a " =( " in your post! Give yourself more credit & be proud of yourself and what you've accomplished so far!
Same here Mandy! And I actually think that I'm just plain not going to be able to do some of them, due to either financial or scheduling reasons. Maybe I should make a new list...

Thanks Cindy and Jo! It's good to be here. I feel welcome.
Cindy - Children's art mostly. It's kinda hard to describe. Quite honestly I haven't figured out exactly what it is but friends seem to think it may be marketable. So we'll see.
Happy Monday everyone!
Wow Uhuru, great goals! What kind of art do you do? and the Poetry Discussion Group sounds awesome, I too love poetry!
Glad to see you here!
I'm new to the group and happy to read such an encouraging comment thread. My goals?
I've completed two already:
#5 - Complete a "short story" I've been writing for a long time
#6 - Let go...
1. 2. Go through stacks of paperwork and organize in a nice filing system
3. Have one empty shelf. Would like to fill with some classics (recommendations?)
4. Bake gingerbread cookies and red velvet whoopie pies with peppermint/cream cheese filling. Give testers to co-workers. Use best batch for friendly cookie competition.
5. Hang paintings.
6. Read 20 books before year is out (and move faster with Fall Reading Challenge)
7. Go to a Haunted House
8. Holiday Gift Purchases/Making!
If I could move some things around, maybe the kitchen would be a good place for the pc. I love our kitchen and it's where I do most of my writing. Hhhhmmm... This is a tough one Lizzi and I struggle with it for the same reasons you do! Great list too btw! Thanks for sharing it with us!

Jo I know what you mean about computer placement! We have a laptop and I'm constantly moving it from our kitchen (we have a built-in desk) to our bedroom. Sometimes I want solitude and sometimes I need interaction.
My goals (in no order):
To be a better person to myself and others (alway my goal)
To concentrate on my new photography business http://picturethisbylizzi.com
To eat better and excercise more
To be more financially responsible
To relax and play more with Beau
To read more
.. meeting my deadline at work, - I want to go out to play on many pretty days:)

I've decided to not put the computer in the spare room as of yet. My thinking there is that I will just dote online while in there instead of creating which will defeat my purpose of what I want to accomplish in that room. I'd prefer the computer to be in the living room (instead of our room) but Hubby doesn't like that idea. We'll see. For now it's staying in our room. How are we doing on our goals Chicks?
I want to add to my list sticking to buying things on sale & w/coupons (when possible) and taking the equivilent of the $ I save by doing so and putting it into savings. I got this from my Aunt who's done this for longer than I've been alive and w/Hubby still laid off from his full time job, saving/re-cooping our savings is very important right now.
So many things to do....I wish I could read for a living.1. Take the Comprehensive exam for my MSCJ
2. Start taking two classes a semester for my MPA
3. Find a place to celebrate the Holidays
4. Clear the clutter from my house
5. Re-Finance (sigh)
6. Continue to read a book a week
7. Drink more water/start working out again
8. Don't know yet
Btw, these are not in order.

Lydia, I feel your pain. My husband has been out of work since May and he's getting discouraged. I hope you are offered something you want to do soon. Good luck!
Hiya Lydia! Happy Birthday to you!! Hope you have a fab day on your bday! I think you are so right on track with maintaining a positive attitude with regards to looking for jobs - I am sure one will be coming your way soon enough! And I love your autumn goals - especially #2, because that is what I have been trying to do these past few weeks and so far so good. Cheers!!
An early Happy Birthday to you Lydia!
I know it's so difficult but keep your spirits up and keep at the job hunting & a wonderful opportunity is bound to show itself!
Thanks for joining us here & sharing your Autumn goals with us.
Yes, the first day of Autumn. I'm approaching my birthday this week, during which I tend to become kind of feisty. Although I have no job and nobody seems to want to offer me a job, I'm trying to keep my head up and keep on moving. So, I'm going to set just three goals:
1. To maintain and keep up on my weekly writing goals.
2. To do some exercise at least 3 days a week.
3. To maintain my letter-writing resolution from New Year's.
I hope all of you are doing well.
Happy first day of Autumn Chicks! Best of luck with your goals this season. Let us know how you're doing and if you need any Chick love to help you through.
Lori, I really like goal 10. It's tough in college, espcially when you're trying to convince the professor, too! Hehe, if I was in college now (compared to when I was shy Jennifer), they'd never get me to shut up. :) Start by faking it, pretty soon you start to believe yourself.
These are great lists, everyone. It's inspiring me to think about what I want to accomplish.
Brigitte, when it comes to writing, just do it! Lol, I speak from experience here. If you try to figure out the what, when & how, you never actually write! Grab a notebook or some paper (or sit at the pc or grab your laptop) and start jotting down whatever comes to your mind and go from there. Best of luck with your goals and if you need any help along the way, let us know!
What a great thread you have going here. It sounds like everyone has great goals! -I want to plan help my children get organized for school. I have two middle schoolers this year and a 4th grader and the homework and projects are overwhelming
-I want participate more in this group and not be such a "lurker"
-I want to have my Christmas shopping and/or ideas for everyone by Thanksgiving
-I want to start write, I just have to figure out what, when and how.
-I want to spend more time reading and less time watching TV
Thank you for this wonderful thread and for this great group!
