Thanks Linda. Yes, I've found them. I completely missed them before. I'm known to search high and low for things that are right in front of my face :)
Michelle, we do have shelves both for monthly purchases, and monthly reads. Have you found the group bookshelves over in the top right corner? (I missed them when I was first here) So you can just log in your books on the appropriate shelves.
Hmmm..... I'm not exactly sure how to start a thread here, but I was wondering if anyone would be interested in keeping track of our October purchases? I had fun reading the posts, as well as keeping track of my own purchases.

Linda, unfortunately, I have to pay the same price as everyone else, $1 for hardcovers and $.50 for paperbacks. But, since I am often the one doing the weeding and withdrawing, I usually get first dibs, which could be seen as both a good thing and a bad thing. lol
Lauren wrote: "Looloo how long did it take for you to get your books from bd.com? "I've gotten some books in 7-10 days and others it took almost three weeks. If you haven't ordered from them another thing to know is they send the books out separately. My first order with them was for three books and I got each book one at a time over the span of a couple of weeks.
Even though it takes a while it's still worth it to get brand new books for up to 50% off and free shipping.
Hadn't gotten over to the library's store for awhile, so finally on the last day of the month, I picked up the following for 50 cents each:Reading Lolita in Tehran: A Memoir in Books
Wise Blood A Novel
Cry, the Beloved Country
The Willow Tree
I believe I only purchased 6 books in the month of September.
Just curious Joseph: since you work at the library and get first crack at the items being pulled, how much are you able to get these books for? I've always wanted to work at a library, but you've just given me a new reason to do so.

I'm not sure where I'll end up this month. There are no more new books coming out that I want until next year, but I never know what might be getting withdrawn and put up for sale used at my library. Time will tell. :-)

I think I ended up with around up with about 40 or so for the month. I can't be in the vicinity of any kind of bookstore and not stop!
My final total for September ended up being 57. I grabbed one last book yesterday before the month ended: Nine Animals and the Well
How about you all?

That's awesome. I love bookmarks too but I've never thought of using different bookmarks for different books either. The bookmarks always catch my eye whenever I am the bookstore. There are some pretty cool ones out there.
My mother made me a bookmark about 7-8 years ago and that is the only real "bookmark" that I will use. If I'm reading more than one book at a time, I just use whatever scrap of paper is near at hand-- even if its a paper towel or a tissue!I never thought about having different bookmarks for different types of books... :)

I agree %100. Ok, this'll prove I've got it bad. I even like to make my own bookmarks, special ones for use only with certain titles, authors, or genres. I have my Horrors bookmark, my Peter Benchley bookmark, my The Cat Who... series bookmark, my Moby Dick bookmark, etc.

I'm the same way. There's only one person I still loan books out to and that's only because I love her dearly. Way too many have never been returned and that's just not cool. I ALWAYS return any books I borrow... I had a friend in high school who would bend the spines backward and fold the cover. It infuriated me! :) I'm not surprised that all of *us* would feel similarly. It should be no surprise from bibliophiles!! :)

I completely understand on the whole book loaning thing. I have lost so many books over the years from "permanent loans" LOL! Additionally, I am very picky about my books. When others borrow them sometimes they don't exercise the same care while reading my books. Funny, when I borrow something from someone, I take EXTRA care with it as to return it in as good as condition as when it was loaned to me. I have bought some of the trade paperbacks (oversized) recently & I am even careful not to open them enough to crease or break the spine.

Selfish, not at all. Smart, yes. I've loaned out books in the past to either, never get them back, or have them returned with grease stains or jelly stains etc. I would think to myself, "how could you eat while reading something that doesn't belong to you?" I would get so upset. So, I don't blame you there. You'll have to let me know what you think about The Lost Symbol.
Joseph I totally understand about letting people borrow books.
I lent one to my sis once and she spilled soda all over it. and a couple i lent to a friend and never got it back. I did let a couple people borrow books but these people i trust enough lol.
Michelle wrote: "Lauren wrote: "geesh Joseph when are you starting your own library lol."

I already have started my own library, it's just not open to the public. I used to let people borrow my books, but too many came back in terrible condition or never came back at all. Call me selfish if you must, but my collection is mine, everyone else can use the public library. To be honest, I dream that when I die I'm going to donate my library like Thomas Jefferson did his and I want it to be in good shape to do that.
P.S. My total is now 56, I just got The Lost Symbol from Amazon.

You better get a third bookcase just in case :P
This is why I maybe should not be involved in the withdrawals at the library where I work. Over the last week, we have been weeding the adult fiction collection. I was doing withdrawals yesterday and today and what happens? I come home with THIRTY-ONE new books for my library! Yikes! Good thing I am going out to buy two more bookcases next week. :-)

That makes FIFTY-FIVE so far this month and there's still four days left in September. Good grief.
After what seemed like a long week at work, I decided to treat myself to some new books, or at least new to me. Rebel Fay, Child of a Dead God those two complete my Noble Dead series by Barb and J.C. Hendee. Eve of Darkness and Eve of Destruction, both by SJ Day.Blood and Chocolate by Annette Klause, Unclean Spirits by M.L.N. Hanover, About A Dragon and What A Dragon Should Know both by G.A. Aiken, Watchers in the Night, Shadows On The Soul, and Secrets in the Shadows by Jenna Black. The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman, Skinwalker A Jane Yellowrock Novel by Faith Hunter, Mark of the Demon by Diana Rowalnd, Black Magic Woman by Justin Gustainis, Night's Cold Kiss A Dark Brethren Novel by Tracey O'Hara, and Dark Time by Dakota Banks. With the exception of the last five, they were all purchased from the used bookstore.
I went to my local Sainsburys for a few things and ended up buying Catching Fire, Evermore and Shiver. They had a "3 for the price of 2" offer and I couldn't resist!
My count was 18, now it's 24. YEsterday, I grabbed a bunch of used books by the Pulitzer Prize winning author John Updike. Can you believe that these books had not been checked out in the last eight years? I couldn't just let them go in the trash.
Rabbit Is Rich
Rabbit at Rest
Bech A Book
Bech Is Back
Afterlife
Memories of the Ford Administration
We're currently going through weeding our library's adult fiction collection of books that haven't been checked out in the last five years and we're finding an unbelieveable number that fall into that category. That's both good and bad, it gives us more space on our shelves but it's sad to see so many getting pulled. On the other hand, that means I have more to fill up my home shelves and also empty my wallet. Oh well, I like to think of it as giving good homes to endangered species. :-)
I don't know if this is good or bad, but my coworkers at the library have learned what a good source of income I can be for the library by letting me know right away if any books are being withdrawn because then I get first dibs on buying the used books. This has resulted in me grabbing another five yesterday.
Rob Roy
Ivanhoe
The Werewolves of London
Shadows on the Hudson
Shosha A Novel
That makes 18 now. I was planning on buying two more bookcases next month, but I don't know if just two are going to be enough. Yikes!
So in true BBA fashion, "my Books-Bought tally" so far for the month is as follows:
Borders
Storm of Shadows
Hot Spell
Sexy Beast V
Acheron
Halfway to the Grave
Weddings from Hell
Over Her Head
Devil May Come
Four Dukes and a Devil
Barnes and Noble
Drawn into Darkness
Dawn's Awakening
At Grave's End
Born of Night
Used bookstore
Mammoth Book of Paranormal Romance
Kiss of Night
The Smoke Thief
The Door to December
Amazon and Ebooks
Dark Prince
Book Depository.com
Destined for an Early Grave
One Foot in the Grave
Covet: A Book of Fallen Angels
Shakespeare's Landlord
Magic Bites
Hot for the Holidays
-----------------------------------------------
Total # = 24
Two more added to my collection yesterday, from the used book shelf at the library. That brings me up to 13 for the month, so far.
Herman Melville Typee, Omoo, Mardi
Herman Melville Redburn, White-Jacket, Moby-Dick
Wow ya'll have been a busy busy bunch ;) I've been being good so far this month! But there are at least 5 or 6 that I'm pretty sure I'll be buying before the month is out.....
I went back to Forbidden Planet at the weekend and bought Unshapely things by Mark Del Franco and Kiss of a Dark Moon by Sharie Kohler.

Sept 20 and I still have not purchased a book in Sept. There are many I want but I don't have the cash to spend so I am reading what I have here at home already.
Wow Dorsi, you've been a busy girl! I'm curious, what benefits do you get with the B&N membership?Kelli - congrats on making it by the used bookstore without stopping. I struggle with that too and really feel proud if I can stay strong and keep driving. Doesn't happen often though, lol.
I won two auctions on ebay today. I got Snyder's Magic Study and 4 Ronda Thompson's Wild Wulf series books. I'm excited! With those I'm probably up to 16 books for the month. I'm doing good, usually by this time of the month I'm already pushing 40+ books.
My TBR pile is growing quickly! There's never enough time to read! I am glad you gave me the heads up on the Jodi Piccoult book. This will be my first one. Congrats on your strength & resistance! LOL I am not sure I could have done it!

I love everything by Stephen King. I have quite a few of the same ones in my ever-growing TBR pile.
We went out driving today to coax the baby to sleep and passed a used book store and I resisted!! I'm very proud of myself. Hopefully I can keep that up for a while... :)
Okay, whew! The Witch's Trinity (Erika Mailman), Speak (Laurie Halse Anderson), Covenant With the Vampire (Jeanne Kalogridis), Touch the Dark (Karen Chance), The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (Stieg Larson), Rebel Angels (Libba Bray), Wuthering Heights (Emily Bronte), The Outlandish Companion (Diana Gabaldon), Acheron (Sherrilyn Kenyon), So Worthy My Love (Kathleen Woodiwiss), Petals on the River (Kathleen Woodiwiss), Ashes in the Wind (Kathleen Woodiwiss), A Rose in Winter (Kathleen Woodiwiss), The Perfect Poison (Amanda Quick), Catching Fire (Suzanne Collins), In the Woods (Tana French), The Dark Highlander (Karen Marie Moning), The Book of the Dead (Preston & Child), Brunswick Gardens (Anne Perry), Celtic Fairy Tales (Joseph Jacobs), Plain Truth (Jodi Piccoult), Whiteout (Ken Follett), The Choice (Nicholas Sparks), The Closers (Michael Connelly), The Tenderness of Wolves (Stef Penney), Dead Sexy (Tate Hallaway) & Salems Lot (Stephen King)...and a Barnes & Noble membership for $25....Has anyone bought one of those & do you think it is worth it? I think that's up to 27 for the month. How I love to shop for books! I am ready to go again!
Kelli - I have about 290 books I haven't read. I like to try to buy the whole series before I start reading them. That tends to make them add up quickly.

Is it bad that you own over 550 books that you haven't read yet? Definitely not!! That being said, I'm just someone with an addictive personality when it comes to books, music, candles :)
I have purchased close to 125 this past month, but I've only paid full price for 4 of them. I can't resist library book sales, thrift stores, or ebay. Is it bad that I currently own over 550 books that I haven't read yet?!?! Better get off here and back to reading before the baby wakes. :)
