I didn't make a ticker last challenge, but I couldn't help myself this time. :)Here's a test! I'm about halfway through Time Traveler's Wife now, hopefully I can finish it up in the next few days!
Hmm, yes, I see how if they're all very different types of books it might work! But I wouldn't get them read any quicker as I'd have less time to read each book .... I'll stick to one book at a time I think, and not tax my poor little brain too much LOL!

I usually read two books at once. They are very different. Sometimes YA (kid's) and an adult book, but it makes it easier when the subject/plot is different to keep things straight. Maybe I got used to doing that being an English major in college and having to read so much when I took multiple English lit classes.
And at the moment I'm reading two books--One is an adult mystery Winter Study, the other is a young adult fantasy fiction. The Battle of the Labyrinth

Suzie, the trick is to keep the plots of each book entirely different in order to keep the plots straight in your head. At least, that's the way it works for me. For example, one contemporary book, one sci-fi, one fantasy, etc.

Oh, all of you who can read in a moving car are lucky! I can't read in any moving vehicle without getting motion sick......thank goodness for audio books. "
I get sick after reading about 3 pages... But I love audiobooks, so I'm good to go!
I was less than halfway through The Greatest Knight The Story of William Marshal when I realized it worked for the challenge, so I can finally pick that back up! I started City of Glass today, too. Also I stopped by the library this afternoon and finished the task where you can read a bunch of children's books which was an extremely fun/motivating way to start!I love the tickers!

LOL! My husband does that in front of the TV. He'll be (silently) watching, I'll pull out a book and he suddenly starts talking. It's a good trick to know for when we want them to talk, isn't it? :D

I haven't yet, I am waiting for my longest read to get in at the library now. Plus, Adrienne just reminded me I have to get my ticker set up.
I started The Boleyn Inheritance but didn't make it to the halfway point before today thank goodness!

I started reading My Sister's Keeper on Friday, but I had such a busy weekend that I only got through about 100 pages by last night.
Teresa wrote: "okay how do we do those things : ) I want one Please"HOW TO CREATE A TICKER
-Click this link: http://www.tickerfactory.com/ezticker/ticker_designer.php?type=14
-Pick a pin number you'll remember...
-As your "object", type "points".
-Your cumulative value will be how many points you have.
-Target is 690 or whatever your goal is.
-The message (optional) will be like a title. (Ex - On Candace's ticker, above, "Candace's Fall Challenge Goal".)
-Click next.
-Navigate through the "More Designs" pages and select a "ticker" bar. Once you've selected the one you want, hit next.
-Navigate through the "More Designs" pages and choose a "ticker slider", and then click next again.
Voilà! Your ticker is made!
To get your ticker to appear here, copy the HTML code (not the bbCode)... the one that starts with "<a href=" and paste it here in your comment box on goodreads!
A really helpful suggestion: Once you have your ticker posted here, click on it, and bookmark the page that comes up. This will help you when you want to update your points.
HOW TO UPDATE YOUR TICKER WITH YOUR CURRENT POINT TOTAL
-Go to your bookmarked page (or find somewhere that you posted your ticker and click on it)
-Click "Edit/Update Data & Style".
-Enter your pin and your current points (as the "current cumulative value")
-Click next THREE TIMES.
-Copy and paste the HTML code again!
Note: You won't need to re-bookmark the page. The website will save your current point total for you.

I started reading The Glass Castle on Saturday, but I'm only on page 66. And The Book Thief is waiting at the library for me so I will be starting that today! Really want to read that one.
SuzieR wrote: "I started The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay a few days ago, because I think it is the biggest book on my list for the challenge so I thought I'd get a little bit of a head start..."YES, IT DOES!! Don't give up! I struggled through the first fifty pages, procrastinated the next hundred, then flew through the rest and wondered why it took me so long to fall in love. It was my best read of the summer, but it took me all summer. :)
Part of it for me was that I insist on looking up every word I don't know, and as you can imagine, there were a lot of those.
I started reading Everything is Illiminated (sp), but only read about 10 pages and was bored with it. May have to pick another book, but I really want to read History of Love by Nicole Kraus (husband wife) and I already ready his other book.
Started According to Garp last night, which I have a feeling I am really going to enjoy all 700 odd pages of it.
Also started Breakfast at Tiffany's this morning while I was waiting for my other person to show up at work. So three going!!!

Yep. That's exactly what you do. :)
I started The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay a few days ago, because I think it is the biggest book on my list for the challenge so I thought I'd get a little bit of a head start, but am seriously struggling with it! I'm only on page 29! The font used in the book isn't helping. Anyone who's read it, does it take a while to get in to it?!
I hadn't actually planned on it, but then it turned out that the book I was reading "just for fun" has time travel in it, so I'll be able to count it for the challenge. Good thing I'm not past the 50% mark yet.
Adrienne wrote: "Took time out from reading to create a ticker, but I'm not sure I understand how it really works. Do I go back to the site and change the points number each time and then copy and paste? "Yep, basically! I suggest bookmarking the tickerfactory page where your ticker is located, so you don't have to track down your last post every time you want to update your ticker...
For those of you that have tickers, how are you doing them? Can you have signatures on Goodreads or are you copying the tickers into your posts each time you post?
I'm on page 118/895 of Little Dorrit, which I started on Saturday. I have already managed to spill coffee on it (not my fault! the cafe table was super-wobbly and the mug was full when I accidentally brushed the table, I also got coffee all over my jeans) and bent the heck out of it trying to cram the darned brick into my work-bag. Luckily this version only cost $0.50 and I've already bought a replacement copy for when the spine goes...
I hadn't yet because I was afraid I'd race through it... but I guess I'm probably safe now, right? Maybe I'll start a "meaty" one so there's no way I'll get through half of it tonight. :)
I am so glad to read this thread! I told DH that I was going to start reading a couple of books for the challenge and stop before I got halfway and he told me that sounded kind of fishy. He was making me feel a little guilty so I am very glad to see I am not the only one who can't wait for this challenge to start, LOL! I have been collecting books from the library and I have them all arranged on my nightstand shelf in the order I am going to read them.
Now I need to go make a ticker... :)
Hi all,
Just stopping by to see if my ticker works.
Yes, I've started reading. My husband is just shaking his head at me.
I too am guilty!! I went to my campus library and checked out a couple of the books I really want to read and started The Book Thief... I didn't get very far though. Work called! Oh, all this talk of Korea is making me wish I was back in Seoul! And Seoul is the reason I didn't get very far in the last challenge!
Also, love the tickers. And Jamie? I hope you feel better soon! Sick without reading is a sick I don't want to be.
Took time out from reading to create a ticker, but I'm not sure I understand how it really works. Do I go back to the site and change the points number each time and then copy and paste?

So cute! I am a teacher, so that's why I took the back to school route. LOL

I went for the Halloween route...

I LOVE candy corn, so it's perfect!

Something like that! :) Korea's awesome, but it'll be good to be back. My mom and brother are coming back to the States in December, and my dad in January. I want to go visit SO BADLY!
April wrote: "I'm excited you are enjoying CoMC! It's fantastic, are you reading abridged or unabridged? Which translation?"It's SO GOOD. It's unabridged on audiobook... 35 discs/43 hours, but it nearly killed me to have to stop half-way through! As for the translation... I'm not sure, but the language is BEAUTIFUL. The translator was spot-on. This is the version I'm listening to: The Count of Monte Cristo
I still haven't started yet because a. I just had to field 9 new questions about my task and b. I was making this awesome ticker:
I LOVE IT!
I am already into two books - one because I began it for the summer challenge and decided I did not have time to finish it, and one because I always keep an audio book in my car going and I started the new one yesterday.
I have started The Book Thief and New Moon - I had to slow down when nearing the mid-point (I'm loving The Book Thief and finding myself surprisingly into New Moon)! I've also been reading Fables Storybook Love which wasn't in my challenge-plans but may just end up being my "thing" book and I am a few pages into The Sisters Grimm Book 1 The Fairy-Tale Detectives - tried to start that one over lunch break but was interrupted over and over again! Look forward to diving into this tomorrow!
I'm working on Curse of the Spellmans by Lisa Lutz for the multiplication task, Bear Daughter by Judith Berman for 10.3 (bear in the title), and The House of the Spirits by Isabel Allende for 10.4 (Hispanic Heritage Month). What can I say? I'm a very impatient person. :)
Leora wrote: "I started the 'Time Travelers Wife' for the Summer challenge but when I saw the task list for Fall and realized that I wasn't going to complete the Summer list anyway I put it down. I did the same..."I'm in the same boat as Leora - I started The Time Traveler's Wife for the summer challenge, got about 15% in, and put it on hold when I realized I wouldn't finish the summer challenge and it fit so well into the fall challenge. :)
I'm also about 35% into The Ordering of Love: The New and Collected Poems of Madeleine L'Engle, which I started for the spring challenge, didn't finish in time, and then put on hold for the whole summer. I'm glad there's a poetry challenge this fall, because now I have a reason to pick it up again and finish it! :)
There were so many books that looked good when I started figuring out my plan for the Autumn challenge that I couldn't resist starting a couple of them! But I always have more than 5 books on the go (one for every kind of mood or situation), so I haven't gotten very far in them yet. Except for American Nerd The Story of My People, which I literally stopped at the halfway point. I'll probably finish it tomorrow! I am so glad I found this group -- you're all my kind of people!
I've been reading "Full Catastrophe Living" for the last week, and am only on page 30 or so-no fear of making much further today! I also started a David Sedaris book tonight.
