1661554 Not a problem. If you read any of our past Book of the Month selections, please don't hesitate to comment on any of those books, even if we read it in 2008.

985335 Oh, I second Kathleen's comment, Kelly. If any of the other discussions are on something you read, please don't hesitate to post your comments.

Meanwhile, everyone, I'm going to go start a new board, specifically for discussions on books read. Simply type in the title and author's name to start a new thread and please include the bookcover and description of the book in your first post.

1383279 I'll be skipping this month also for the same reason Kelly stated. Looking forward to next months selections.

985335 Coles up here didn't have either, so it looks like I'm ordering them.

917504 Well, my new friends, guess what?! I wasn't really planning on reading these but I hit the used bookstore yesterday to make a trade, and I was able to get If You Dare, so WhOOOO HOOOOOO!
I'm a huge Diana Gabaldon fan but this is the first other highlander book I've read since I swore off Barbara CArtland in High school! I think I'll get me a nice bottle of cheap Chianti and dig right in.

985335 Gaijinmama, as for highlander novels, Hannah Howell is pretty good as well. I read two of her novels and hope to find more of hers next year on my book-buying trip.

917504 Thanks! I've marked it To-Read.

1661554 I have read Hannah Howell, also, and she writes a decent highlander novel. However, the very best highlander novels that I have ever read were the ones written by Julie Garwood. Titles include:

The Bride (Lairds' Fiancees, #1)The Bride

The Wedding (Lairds' Fiancees, #2)The Wedding (sequel to The Bride)

------------------
------------------

The Secret (Medieval, #1)The Secret

Ransom (Medieval, #2) Ransom(sequel to The Secret)

Ransom is one of my two all-time number favorite medievals by any author.

------------------
------------------

Saving GraceSaving Grace

Saving Grave is my all-time number one all-time favorite medieval. I get shivers thinking about how well written is this book.

Garwood, to the disappointment of many of her fans of her medievals, switched to contemporaries several years ago. All of these titles are available used.

985335 Kathleen, have you tried Karen Marie Moning. She's great!

1661554 Yeppers, I loved her story about Adam Black the best. Can't remember the title. I would put her with Howell as writing a very solid medieval. Garwood is still the best.

message 14: by Gina (new)

985335 LOL, that would be The Immortal Highlander, Kathleen.

message 15: by Gaijinmama (new)

917504 Well, I posted my review of If You Dare. Got lots of giggles from the other teachers at my university when they saw me with it in the teacher's room...but you just KNOW they're probably all going to go find a copy and read it!
It was enjoyable (3 stars) and I'll probably try to hunt down the other two books in the trilogy.

message 16: by Gina (new)

985335 I'm about 2/3's of the way through it myself. I have a feeling 3 stars is what I'll be giving it as well. I've read better...

917504 Yeah, I'm a bit prejudiced. Diana Gabaldon has completely spoiled me. Her books aren't exactly romances but they have more than enough Hot Highlander (Jamie Fraser...drool, swoon, thud!!)and she is one of the most gifted writers out there(and researchers...you can tell she has an academic background. Man does she do her homework!!)

I'm totally with you on Gabaldon.

985335 Gabaldon and Karen Marie Moning for sure! I even read a couple of Hannah Howell's and they were pretty good.

Yep, as I figured, no more than 3 stars. I liked the characters but I didn't find the plot as exciting as I'd hoped. Almost sort of... same old, same old. However, that's not to say I won't pick up the others. I'm curious to what Court's brothers are like.
