885602 I agree; I fail to see what is so utterly hilarious about this book. Its popularity is entirely based on the hype surrounding the author's suicide and subsequent publishing due to pity taken on the grieving mother and awarding of the Pulitzer.

213855 No. I can't tell you why. A group of my friends 'discovered' Confederacy of Dunces in high school and read and reread while singing its praises until I finally caved. I lasted about three chapters, returned it to the library and never looked back.

864287 Can someone tell me please why this book is great. It is long winded, dirty and not particularly enlightening. The interest in this book is as much about JKO as any of the book's inherent merit.
