I agree; I fail to see what is so utterly hilarious about this book. Its popularity is entirely based on the hype surrounding the author's suicide and subsequent publishing due to pity taken on the grieving mother and awarding of the Pulitzer.
No. I can't tell you why. A group of my friends 'discovered' Confederacy of Dunces in high school and read and reread while singing its praises until I finally caved. I lasted about three chapters, returned it to the library and never looked back.
