2634423 Still gloomy and overcast here.

message 1394: by David (new)

1287856 The brass monkeys, too?

message 1393: by carol (akittykat) (new)

2524666 Yeah the sun is shining . I have not been out as yet.

message 1392: by Ruth (new)

335159 It rained last night. Bright and breezy this morning and the ocean is covered with whitecaps.

Better go take in the umbrellas on the patio.

2634423 Ruth wrote: "Warm by your rights, I guess, Gabrielle. Chilly for here on the coast. Low 60s."

Yes, I can see that would be chilly in SoCal, Ruth. But it's still better than 30s and 40s.

Debbie, the only time I like colder weather is for Christmas, but I could get used to a summer Christmas, that's for sure.

message 1390: by Debbie (new)

686757 Sunny, warm, light breezes and around 23C....I love a summery Christmas!

message 1389: by Ruth (new)

335159 Warm by your rights, I guess, Gabrielle. Chilly for here on the coast. Low 60s.

2634423 Ruth wrote: "Overcast and dreary here in Sunny Socal, too."

But warm. I'm jealous, Ruth. ;)

Clear always mean brrrrrr! in the winter, NE.

Carol, I'm sorry, but I don't know any book titles that fit what you're looking for.

2524666 Speaking of witch,(little pun) I am reading a fiction about the Salem Witch trails. Anyone know of a well written non-fiction about same subject. I am on a history kick this year.

message 1386: by Newengland (new)

730754 Colder than a witch's and clear here.

message 1385: by Ruth (new)

335159 Overcast and dreary here in Sunny Socal, too.

message 1384: by Gabrielle (new)

2634423 You're welcome, Carol.

I have a friend in the warm, sunny Canary Islands, who wants to fly home to England for Christmas and there's so much snow and fog in England he thinks his flight will be delayed.

Here, it's just overcast and dreary.

message 1383: by carol (akittykat) (new)

2524666 Thanks Gabrielle

message 1382: by carol (akittykat) (new)

2524666 I hope she gets to your home soon. At least in time for Christmas. She would make better time with Santa maybe.

message 1381: by Gabrielle (last edited 2 days ago, 05:19PM) (new)

2634423 Glad to hear they got there safely, Carol. And tell your son to take heart, spring comes early to Virginia and it's gorgeous when it does.

I must be a very odd person, I LIKE the Newark airport. But Amsterdam's Schiphol is the best. That first one looks sort of like a space station. Well, how I picture a space station. I don't really know what one looks like. Don't want to, either.

message 1380: by Newengland (new)

730754 Surprise! Only one in America. Um. If Florida counts, I mean.

message 1379: by carol (akittykat) (new)

2524666 That sucks, Detroit is not an airport I would want to be stuck in for too long. There was an article not to long ago about which airports were the best to be stuck in.

here you go

message 1378: by Newengland (new)

730754 Mine lost her flight out of Seattle yesterday and spent all day at the airport. Got one this a.m. and NOW is hung up in Detroit.

Planes. Can't live with 'em, can't live with 'em.

message 1377: by carol (akittykat) (new)

2524666 YEAH! THE KIDS MADE IT SAFELY TO THEIR DESTINATION IN VIRGINIA. THE ROADS WERE CLEAR SAILING. IT IS COLD FOR MY CALIFORNIA BOY. HE BOUGHT HIS FIRST PAIR SNOW BOOTS. HAHAHAHAHA Thanks for listening to my play by play.

message 1376: by carol (akittykat) (new)

2524666 Change the name to my son's and you will have about how I feel. I am happy for them and their career advancements. I have encouraged them to make this move, but I an devastated for me and my husband. we will miss them very much. Thanks for the chuckle David . I needed that.

message 1375: by David (new)

1287856 Puts me in mind of this:

Long distance information give me Memphis Tennessee
Help me find the party trying to get in touch with me
She could not leave a number but I know who placed the call
'Cause my uncle took a message and he wrote it on the wall

Help me information get in touch with my Marie
She's the only one who'd phone me here from Memphis, Tennessee
Her house is on the south side, high upon the ridge
Just a half a mile from the Mississippi bridge

Help me information, more than that I cannot add
Only that I miss her and all the fun we had
But we were pulled apart because her mom did not agree
And tore apart our happy home in Memphis Tennessee

Last time I saw Marie she was waving me good-bye
With hurry home drops on her cheeks that trickled from her eye
Marie is only six years' old, information please
Help me get in touch with her in Memphis Tennessee

message 1374: by Gabrielle (new)

2634423 It's lovely, but it does get cold in the winter. You have to bundle up.

message 1373: by carol (akittykat) (new)

2524666 Daughter -in-law is from there and they were married there. They want us to relocate there. I don't know what will happen.

message 1372: by Gabrielle (new)

2634423 The snowstorm has moved into southern New England now, Carol, so the roads to Virginia should stay clear for your son and his family. The trip should be fairly easy. Alexandria and Fairfax are beautiful places. I lived in Falls Church, Virgina once for a while and loved it. Close to Washington, D.C.

message 1371: by carol (akittykat) (new)

2524666 This is an update on my son. They have left Memphis heading to Nashville. They send pictures along the way. The roads are clear for now. There will be snow flurries the closer they get to Va. They want to make it to Blacksburg Va. tonight , and go the final leg tomorrow , They will relocate in Alexandria, Va. But for now they will be in Fairfax with relatives.

message 1370: by Gabrielle (new)

2634423 Hopefully, you'll hear from your son and learn he's in Virginia today, Carol. I'm sure he'll be fine. The roads are always cleared when it snows. Here in Ohio, it's raining instead of snowing, but I'm in southern Ohio. In Cleveland, by Lake Erie, I would think it's snowing.

message 1369: by carol (akittykat) (new)

2524666 The kids are bunked down for the night.I should say hunkered down. My son said the wind chill is 0 degrees. He has never been in this weather before. I have to fix some dinner.

message 1368: by carol (akittykat) (new)

2524666 He must have a magnetic car.

message 1367: by Gabrielle (new)

2634423 I think he needs to drive a tank! LOL He's a good driver. All the accidents have been the fault of the other person. Terrible!

message 1366: by carol (akittykat) (new)

2524666 I think brother needs a red car, so everyone can see him. Or a James Bond car with spikes on the hubcaps that keep other cars at bay.

message 1365: by Gabrielle (new)

2634423 Unfortunately, it is, Carol, but any time is bad, really. My brother's car got hit for the fifth time when we went out to get dinner today. At least this driver was insured. The other four were not despite the fact that Ohio requires every driver to have insurance. You lose your license if you have an accident and have no insurance.

All five times were someone else's fault, too, but this guy wasn't a jerk like some of the others were.

message 1364: by carol (akittykat) (new)

2524666 My kids are in Memphis, Tn. They have stopped for night. I have been on-line, giving them driving and weather updates all day. They are on their way to Va. It is bad weekend to travel.

message 1363: by Gabrielle (new)

2634423 That's the best kind to have, Carol.

message 1362: by carol (akittykat) (new)

2524666 My one big romance was with my husband. HOOK,LINE AND SINKER.

message 1361: by Gabrielle (new)

2634423 Harlequin makes me shudder. Cannot stand romances! LOL

message 1360: by carol (akittykat) (new)

2524666 Calling all would be writers, Harlequin wants you.

2524666 Bee's wax candles burn longer don't they? I have not tried the soy jobbers.

message 1358: by Newengland (new)

730754 You have to be careful with candles. Most of them burn bad juju into your air. I'm not clear on this, though. I only know that beeswax candles are safe -- and maybe the new soy jobbers.

Nothing is as it seems. That's what I like about this ride.

message 1357: by Anna (new)

2716113 Maybe he was raised by Mr. and Mrs. Snail. Ha

message 1356: by carol (akittykat) (new)

2524666 They need all that light to go squid hunting.

Let's go down to the sea
bring the candles if you please
hooligans doused the lighthouse
so man the shore
with candles galore

Yeah, but Yankee Candles (and you're a Yank!) sell just about every aroma out there in it's candle aisle!

Luddites and early adopters alike light candles!

2524666 Squid is more cerebral, and too sensitive. He cries over spilled ink.

message 1353: by Newengland (new)

730754 Plus, octopi always scored with the babes. The squid just got ink all over everything -- prematurely.

message 1352: by carol (akittykat) (new)

2524666 And don't forget your coconuts. I thought that was funny. I have heard it said that squid were smart but never an octopus

2524666 I know, warm bread ,fresh butter. Homemade jelly or jam. Can I come visit you guys?

message 1347: by Newengland (new)

730754 Trader Joe's doesn't sell the smell though.

message 1346: by carol (akittykat) (new)

2524666 You have no need for home made bread in my book when you have Trader Joes
