2457455 Lol that happens to everyone. Its so hard to stick to a list!

message 86: by Kaliki (new)

2630720 I'm laughing out loud as I look back at this thread. Of my original list, and my revised list, I have read exactly 1 (ONE) book.

But I have read some GREAT books lately! Time to re-do my list, I do believe.

1939651 I did like it. I actually enjoyed this book more than the first 3! Let me know what you think of it once you receive it.

message 81: by Jo (new)

2457455 Did you like Van Alen Legacy? I'm still waiting for my copy to get delivered!

message 78: by Jo (new)

2457455 I always try that but then my mood changes and all gets messed up or something new comes out that i forgot about.

message 77: by Linda Grace (new)

1939651 I know! I'm so excited about that. I am trying not to add new books to my list unless I really am going to read them soon.

message 76: by Jo (new)

2457455 Good start! It won't be long till you have read more books that you didn't have on your list than the ones you did.

2457455 Lol its hard not to stray! You click the (some html is ok) thingy above the comment box and it tells you. I am reading one now that isn't on my list!

1939651 LOL I didn't even notice that! What a weird coincidence. I wonder what else I have at home to read that only has a one word title...

message 60: by Jo (new)

2457455 That would be a cool challenge actually lol. Read all the single word title books that you have been meaning to read forever. Although that could take forever!

message 59: by Kaliki (new)

2630720 Hey Linda Grace ... was it part of your challenge for October to read single word titled books? I just notice that (except #5) & thought it was funny. Coincidence? :)

Thanks Jo! I'm SURE i will be like you and stray from it! But it'll be a fun challenge anyway.

Thanks Dean :) I definitely won't finish my list i made to be done by the end of october. No way! I have read about 3 books already this month that weren't even on the list. Oh well, i started with good intentions!

message 55: by Jo (new)

2457455 Good luck with completing your list! Hopefully you won't be like me and stray from it and end up not finishing it. I am with you, i had so many books at home that i hadn't read and making a list gave me motivation. I hope you reach your goal!

message 54: by Kaliki (new)

2630720 So here's my TBR list to start with. It includes a few books I don't own, but was already planning to read for another challenge.

**I own

The Traveler
Heart and Soul
**Barking: The Sound of a Language

Salmon Fishing in the Yemen
**Little Women
**The Lost Symbol
Me of Little Faith
The Poisonwood Bible
**Water for Elephants
**The Nonrunner's Marathon Guide for Women
**From Baghdad With Love
**The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo
**The No 1 Ladies Detective Agency
**The Girl Who Played With Fire
**For Whom the Bell Tolls
**Monday Night Jihad
Shanghai Girls
First They Killed My Father
Three Cups of Tea
**The Third Jesus

I'm hoping to have these completed by the end of the year. I think that's realistic. At least I hope so!

message 53: by Kaliki (new)

2630720 Alright, I like this idea. I was just working on my 'books I own but haven't read list' and it's over 70 and I'm not done! So I've decided to create a challenge for myself. I'm going to (try to) read 4 books that I own per month to bring that # down. Theoretically, if I didn't buy any more books, I would be down to zero in a year & a half. lol .. but I don't imagine myself not buying another book for a year & a half .. heck, I can't even really imagine myself not buying another book for a WEEK & a half! 4 books a month is a low number, but I wanted to leave time for other books, in case I borrow, check out from the library, or those other books I'm 'not' going to buy in the meantime. :)

Sounds like I'm in good company here. Thanks everybody .. you've motivated me!

message 52: by Dean (new)

2464171 Happy Birthday Jo!

I won't complete my list... well I don't think I will. I'll be done with Blood Meridian and Dorian Gray at the same time and that will be half of it done then. But a couple I've got left are quite long.

2628150 I`m hopeless at lists they would make me feel like I was at school, the way I do it is that one book leads me into another,so I have a treasure trail of books!!!

message 50: by Jo (new)

2457455 Lol i always just end up buying something or remembering about one that i already have that i want to read

message 49: by Linda Grace (new)

1939651 :) Yeah, it really depends on what the library gets first for me.

message 48: by Jo (new)

2457455 I am like you and always end up reading books that aren't on the list i make

Have you read Sei Shonogan's Pillow Book? She was considered the rival to Murasaki Shikibu, the writer of "The Tale of Genji." I thought that was an interesting book as it talks of court life and gives lists and bits of gossip and so on...

2464171 I was thinking of getting this one The Tale of Genji (Penguin Classics Deluxe Edition). Not sure if it's a good version or not.

No, I've never read it but I will certainly look out for it. I love stuff to do with Japanese culture ( so if you have anything else to recommend feel free!), I'm really hoping The Tale of Genji is as great as I've heard. Have you read it? What did you think of it?

The Picture of Dorian Grary is one of the creepiest things I ever read! You're going to LOVE it. Great list! A few of those are on my TBR for October as well! Happy reading!
