I may get around to reading Ice eventually, but after her last book, Burn, (which bored me), I'm not all that enthused to read Ice.
Well fellow LH fans, I finally read Ice...I read some initial reviews and decided to put my name on the library wait list instead of running out to buy it...annnnnd sadly, it was a good decision. It was such an average read...the book was so bare bones, I felt like she's written more in-depth and fulfilling books in her Silhouette days...don't think I should discuss the book in greater detail until some more people have read it.
Amar,
I really loved Diaz too and he has sure stayed with me,only a true Alpha hero would take care of and protect the heroine like he did.
Sooooo ladies, today is release date for Ice! Anybody get it yet? I'm sure I will by the end of the day...I have no will power when it comes to LH books!
I just heard a Linda Howard interview and she was saying that the character Diaz from Cry no More stayed with her for a long time...I thought that was good to know since we were all so touched by that book.
my favorite was a tie between "Shades of Twilight" and "Open Season". Open Season made me laugh out loud several times!
I cried my eyes out throughout "Cry No More". But loved the epilogue :)
lol Kathy Anne,I know what you mean... I liked Burn, it just needed some more va-va-voom LH love scenes!!
Wohhhh, just checked on Amazon and noticed the book description for Ice (rel. Nov 10th) is out!!! yehhhh!Product Description
’Tis the season for mistletoe and holly, Santa . . . and suspense. And the gift that keeps on giving is Ice: premier thriller author Linda Howard’s breathless tale of a man, a woman, and a battle for survival against an unforgiving winter–and an unrelenting killer. Oh what fun it is to read.
Gabriel McQueen has only just arrived home on holiday leave from the service when his county-sheriff father sends him back out again with new marching orders. A brewing ice storm, and a distant neighbor who’s fallen out of contact, have the local lawman concerned. So he enlists Gabriel to make the long haul to the middle of nowhere, and make sure Lolly Helton is safe and sound. It’s a trip the younger McQueen would rather not make given the bitter winter weather–and the icy conditions that have always existed between him and Lolly.
But there’s no talking back when your dad is the town’s top cop. And there’s no turning back when night falls just as Gabriel arrives–and discovers that the weather outside isn’t the only thing that’s frightful. Spotting strangers in Lolly’s home–one of them packing a weapon–is all it takes to kick Gabriel into combat mode. And his stealth training is all he needs to extract Lolly from the house without alerting her captors. But when the escape is discovered, the heat–and the hunt–are on. And the winter woods are nowhere to be once the ice storm touches down, dropping trees, blocking roads, and trapping the fleeing pair in the freezing dark.

Have you read After the Night yet,it is so good,it is far better than good in fact, and Kill and tell is good too.
Of all the Kell Sabin books I love White Lies, the h falls for the H when..."
Hi Kathy. I don't have that book yet. I have Kill and Tell and I will read it one day.
I just posted, I know but I thought I'd put some words in :)
I LOVE her writing. The first one I picked up was After the Night and it's been difficult to match. I ADORED it. The next I read was Heart of Fire, LOVED that too so kept going with this author. Kill and Tell, Lady of the West, Heartbreaker, Drop Dead Gorgeous and now (literally 20 minutes ago) I finished Cover of Night. That last one was on the weaker side just because it didn't have as much romance in it but I still liked it. A little far fetched though. Moving onto Mr. Perfect which I've heard amazing things about so I'm excited. I, like Tonya who I responded to above, hope to read and own all her books. Linda Howard's amazing! Gets me laughing, sitting on the edge of my seat, heart racing from the action and the hot steamy scenes...oh boy. :)
Tonya wrote: "Linda Howard is my all time favorite author!!! I have read and own everybook of her that I can get my hands on (which is all but 2 I think). I have been dying to meet people who have read her books..."
AFTER THE NIGHT WAS AMAZING!!! I passed it on to all of my girlfriends and we all LOVED it. Who could forget that memorable patio/porch AND bathroom scene? Ach, I could talk about this book and read it forEVER.
Something about An Independent Wife just really grabbed me. I started off just flipping through the pages and I ended up glued to the book and unable to move.
LOL. You're actually the first person to tell me, "I didn't think Rome was too bad." Usually everyone regales me with tales of what an utterly craptastic hero he is.
Holly I didn't think Rome was too bad, considering what he'd been through...I wasn't crazy about Independent Wife if you liked that, I think you'll love Sarah's Child.
At the end of burn--the closing scene made me wonder if we'll see more of Jenner, Cael and Tiffany? I really liked the secondary characters and thought the book was richer with the additional interaction. In a lot of Howard's books, the two main characters become isolated, and all the action surrounds them. Gotta say, I also missed the love scenes! But loved the dialogue between characters, their growth.
I wondered about that too. If Ice was goingto tie in with Burn but so far nothing I've read about the book suggests that.
My next Linda Howard is going to be Sarah's Child. I loved An Independent Wife so here's hoping Rome isn't too obnoxious for me.
Finished with Burn!!! I think it has a great story line that gripped me from the beginning and had me laughing out loud, but I agree with a few of you that it didn't have the va-va-voom scenes that I have come to love from Linda. We got lots of details on the happenings on the ship, but not with Jenner and Cael.
I haven't read anything about what Ice is about and I'm wondering if it is going to tie in with Burn in anyway. Does anyone know?
I am so agree with Amar: lots of laughs but not enough va-va-voom love scenes. In over all, I still like the story. Now waiting for "ICE"... Is it coming out in September?
I thought Burn was a throwback to Mr Perfect and Open Season...lots of laughs with some intensity thrown in. Only complaint I have is that it was missing LH's usual va-va-voom love scenes (there were a couple but not nearly enough!)
I am reading Burn right now and so far loving it. Hate it when I have to stop reading and get ready for work!
Yeah, Arch, I second Kathy D, All that Glitters is not very good...it was LH's first book I think and in keeping with the romance genre of the time so really bad!
Just finished it and loved it!! Don't want to put any spoilers out there but I think you all will enjoy it!!I finished NR's new book too...now I'm bummed, shouldn't have finished them so fast :-)
Happy Reading ladies!
I am dying here!!! I pre-order Burn from Barns and Noble and it still isn't here yet!!! Last time the book was at my door the day it was ava. AAAAhhhhhhhhh
Kathy D and Arch - John Medina is an amazing character!! He was in the first Linda book I read too, Kill and Tell! I read that book when I was 15 and Fell In Love!!! =)
Tonya, I just didn't like the hard nosed attitude the hero had in The Independent Wife (granted all of LH's earlier heroes were that way) but it didn't click with me I guess.Yeash BlueBird Winter was short and sweet with no fire right? :-)
Arch, Diamond Bay is a great book to read after Midnight Rainbow! =) What book did you have in mind next?
Amar, I didn't think The indepentdent Wife was to bad, just not as good as say, Kill and Tell or Now You See Her. But have you read Blue Bird Winter? After reading Sarah's Child and Almost Forever I was really looking forward to a book featuring Derek Taliferro and I have to say that I was alittle disappointed.
Arch you have to read Diamond Bay next...it's about Kell Sabin's love story...and Jane and Grant make a special appearance!
Tonya, oh yeah, All that Glitters was really bad...i think it was her first book so I forgive her fo it. Independent Wife was pretty bad too.Hmm, good idea to reread the Mackenzies...I think I'll do that too while waiting for Burn to come out!
Hi Arch,
I'm a big fan of Midnight Rainbow! About twice a year I new a dose of the Mackenzie's, so I'm reading Mackenzie's Pleasure right now.
Hey Amar,
I haven't read anything about Burn yet, I've been waiting for a new book by Linda for so long that I think I'm going to let it be a surprise. =)
About Cover of night, I really liked that book. I've reread it several times. I liked that it was different than her normal style. It was also the first woman to have children too.
The one book that I'm not a big fan of and haven't reread is was the one with the rich greek guy Niko, I think it's All the Glitters. He was not your normal Linda guy, he was a jerk! What did you think?
Glitter, I think that one was called Cover of Night...and like you, I didn't really care for that one either...the hero just wasn't one of LH's typical guys and I just couldn't get over that. Didn't reread that one that either, and I've read each of her books many times over. :-)unread topics | mark unread
