In The Woods was really good, but it gets intense. I nominated Virgin of Small Plains because it's a mystery, but it's got a lot of other things going on too. :)
If you want Halloween-ish, how about Frankestein by Mary Shelley? Or Dracula by Bram Stoker?Sorry- that was two! Now I can't decide...
