I haven't read a whole lot of "erotica". I've read the Beauty Trilogy by A.N. Roquelaure and if you would consider Laurell K. Hamilton to be erotica, there is enough sex - just not as raunchy of descriptives, but the one book that I've read that I thought was really good erotica was Strange Attractions. I tend to write more erotica than I read, but I do enjoy a well written erotic story.
Kate Hill does mostly e-books, you can find her at Changeling press and several other e-presses.Angela Knight has a series that I absolutely adore, a re-invention of King Arthur and friends, The series is called The Mageverse.
Mychael Blackis an excellent erotica author who specializes in alternative lifestyle romances. Not everyone goes for those. To be honest, I didn't used to until I proofed some, but they're not for everyone.
I also like Katie MacAlister, she has a vampire series and two dragon series, which I also love. I wouldn't term either one of them erotica, but the love scenes are hot as...dragon's breath, lol.
I'll try anything once, as my bookshelf will show. Check it out for some other suggestions.
Lil, Emma Holly wrote "Dirty", right? I've been dying to read her. As for the other authors you mentioned, I haven't heard of them, to be honest. Any book recommendations? Besides the one that you meantioned already. lol
I enjoy many erotica authors. Some of my favorites are Emma Holly, Angela Knight, Kate Hill, Mychael Black...just to name a few. A new author I had the privilege to read may not be termed exactly "erotica," the scenes, while definitely spicy are not the main focus of the story.
I had a ball reading this one. It's called Just My Luck, by Gail Koger. She's a Goodreads author.
*Disclaimer* Yes, that was a slightly shameless plug. I proofed the book and enjoyed it so much, I forgot that was what I was supposed to be doing.
I just noticed something: I never answered the question that began this post! lol I think the best erotic author is Opal Carew, whom I was just introduced to about a month ago. I simply adore her writing style! At first, she will write from the main character's point of view, and in the next segment or chapter, if you will, she writes in one of the supporting characters' point of view. She also mixes in romance with it, so that the story has substance other than just the sex scenes. As for the sex scenes, they are potent and envelope you into the story. It feels as if you are there with the characters, and to me, that is a must, and one of the things that makes a superb erotic author.
As for unkind words, I very rarely have them for people. But, since you're looking for honest feedback, and I will honest with you.
you're very welcome....I meant every word, I enjoyed that stories very much, and yes, that is me.... :-)

As i believe you are politicalgirl1985
Thank you for the kind words, and feel free to offer unkind ones as well

a good starting place sometimes is a story you know that was disapointing, make it what you thought it should be
Thank you, I sometimes struggle with the ability to convey my thoughts properly to other people. :-)
Yes, I understand what you're saying, it's just easier said than done. You, of all people, I'm sure can relate to that. And hey, of course I'm hard on myself, if i'm not, then when I do write it might not be the best I can do...it's my way of pushing myself.
Hey...don't be so hard on yourself. EVERY story has pretty much been told before...including erotica, really. The trick is to make it different in some way. That's what tweaking...revision...editting is for. And reading a lot is just grist for the mill...fuel for the fire, got it? ;)
Thank you very much, Chris. yes, I have tried my hand at writing it, but they always sound like other stories I have read. I need something new and fresh to work with.....of course, it probably doesn't help that I read any type I can get my hands on, you know? It's a guilty pleasure for me as well.

Oh I know, Kristen...and thank you for the nice words. Actually, I have been slightly sarcastic in here but that's just me kidding around. I'm very confident about myself as a writer, but then again we are our own worst critics at times, too. I've actually published erotica previously and while it isn't my main interest as far as writing goes, I admit it is a guilty pleasure. I will send you a link to where you may read a few of my stories.
I'm a strawberry-blonde, so does that mean I get the best of both worlds? thank you very much for your help!

Thank you M.R., I will definitely check it out! I am always willing to read other stories....especially since I can actually tlak to the author. :-)

if you'd be willing I have a collection of erotic shorts on Authonomy.com and would appreciate any feedback at all.
The link can be found on my profile
the collection is called
Coming into your Own
by M.R. Gott
Chris, I would be very interested to read what you write. I am always looking for new authors. :-)Like M.R. said, don't sheapen yourself though. i'm sure you are a wonderful author. Give yourself credit for what you do, not everyone has the talent for writing....especially erotic fiction.
Chris wrote: "I was partly kidding. Although I don't really read erotica, I write it and like what I do a lot. But my stuff is probably not for everyone. More pornographic but tastefully done. All of my stor..."
Don't cheapen your own efforts by stating its pornographic, and erotica is not for everyone, so if you were writting for everyone it would not be good,
imagine young adult erotica...that would just be sad
