Hi Yz,
I called my cousin to see if anyone had bought it for me for Chritmas ,because I had written it on our family wish list for Santa to bring me,and she said her and my Mom had gone shopping for all the books for everyone on the list and she bought it for me.Good ole Mom.
Thanks so much for offering to trade with me,I really appreciate it,and would have been happy to if she hadn`t bought it.I can`t wait to read it,you guys make all the books sound so good ,I love reading this thread.
Kathy Anne,
I have an extra copy of Gone Too Far if you need it. If you want to swap something for it, I'm more than willing to mail it to you, if you are in the US.
Kathy Anne,
In Gone Too Far, someone has been murdered.
Alyssa is seeing her boss Max. They don't live together. Sam hates seeing them together.
Gone Too Far is Sam and Alyssa's book. I love that book.
Hi Arch,
Yes it is Gone Too Far,I need to get it and the fourth one.If I am remembering right it is Sam`s wife and maybe his child that he sees murdered thru a window in a house he had to travel to a long way away.Am I remembering right that Alyssa is living with a friend of his,and he doesn`t like it.I am home(LA) and those two first books are in another state,so I can`t check them.
I can``t wait to get this book to see who had been murdered, certainly hoping it isn`t his daughter.I love reading these posts you all have on here ,they are almost as good as reading the books.
I have only read the firt two-ending with him going to thaat house and seeing his ex wife and another woman dead in there and wondering if his child is dead too.Even tho I loved that ending I have made myself wait since last spring I think it was, because I usually glom them and then I am sad.
I have the next two on my Chrismas List so I will soon get to find out who was murdered.I love this series and Suzannes writing.
Eastofoz,
Sam and Alyssa were to me, like the boy and girl in school, who liked one another, but didn't know how to tell the other, so they fought.
Sam was the boy pulling Alyssa's hair.
Alyssa was the girl that smirked at Sam, each time he would look her way or come around her.
Thanks for the suggestion Auntee. Looks like I'll give book 2 a shot.Stinkerbell I see what you're saying about the first book in a series --I find that seconds sometimes go the same route so I'll give this one to the third and then see if I really like it :)
Arch I really liked the Sam/Alyssa starter story in the first book because I love love-hate themes. I have Brockmann's other book "Prince Joe" that I'll give a shot too even though it starts another of her series.
Eastofoz wrote: "I don't know what to try next, go on to book too or pick another one in the series. I can't say I was a huge fan of The Unsung Hero (and it doesn't seem to be in the top 5 for anyone either) but I..."
The Unsung Hero was the first book in the series, and honestly, I'm seldom overly impressed by the first in any series because there is so much backstory, plot developement, character introductions, etc. For that reason, while I did like Unsung Hero, but it wasn't my favorite.
East, if you want to get the full Sam and Alyssa experience (probably Brockmann's most popular couple), I'd continue to read the books in order if you can. The Defiant Hero(the next book up) certainly wasn't my favorite, but things get a lot better after that book.
Eastofoz,
Who's your favorite characters? I would read the next book they are in. Then again, a lot of characters only be in one book. Their book.
Suzanne wrote books about her Team Ten characters. Try reading her other books. If you have a few of those and then come back to the Troubleshooter series.
I don't know what to try next, go on to book too or pick another one in the series. I can't say I was a huge fan of The Unsung Hero (and it doesn't seem to be in the top 5 for anyone either) but I'd like to give the series another shot seeing as so many people like it. Hmmmmmm
I have never heard of Suzanne Brockmann, prior to be buying Gone Too Far at a library booksale in 2004. After buying that book, I've later bought Flashpoint, but didn't read it until after I've read Into The Storm in 2006.
I can read books out of order. Especially, if my favorite characters aren't in most books.
...and don't read through them too fast otherwise you'll be bummed waiting for the next book to come out :-) like me!
OOH! Good question, I've wondered this myself. I tried to put my favorites in order and here it is:
1. Hot Target.....2. Flashpoint.....3. Force of Nature.....4. Into the Storm.....5. Dark of Night.....
6. Into the Fire.....7. Breaking Point.....8. The Defiant Hero.....9. Into the Night.....
10. Unsung Hero.....11. Over the Edge.....12. Gone Too Far.....13. All Through the Night.....
14. Out of Control.....15. Hot Pursuit
I don't recall all the names and stories. For the most part, I loved them all. I loved Stan and Terri's story, Sam and Alyssa's parts in all the books and Dave and Sophia.
Gone Too Far was my first book. Sam and Alyssa hooked me in this book. I had to find out more about them.
I like their scene in Unsung Hero. I never really read that book, just really Sam and Alyssa's scene.
Defiant Hero, Over The Edge (For Alyssa and Sam parts.)
Into the Storm (I've read before Flashpoint. Dave and Sophia stood out to me in Into The Storm, I had to go back and read Flashpoint.)
Into The Fire - Dave and Sophia parts.
Dark of Night. I was happy that this was Dave's book.
For me, East, they were #3-6, Over the Edge, Out of Control, Into the Night, Gone Too Far, then #9 Breaking Point, #13 Into the Fire and #14 Dark of Night. I liked them all, but those are my favorites.:)
What are the general reader favourites for this series? I've only read the first one (no spoilers for the others please :)
Before leaving work today, Sam and Ash came to my mind. When I've read Dark of Night and Hot Pursuit, I've wondered why Suzanne had Ash spend more time with Sam and Alyssa had less book time with him.
This came to me and this is why I believe Suzanne is showing more Sam and Ash.
Sam never really had a father. He's father would beat him, when he was younger. I am sure that his father didn't care for him, when he was a baby either. So, Suzanne is showing how a father is supposed to be with his son. Sam is getting a chance to truly feel, how it is to be a son and have time with your father. Have your father love you.
Uncle Walter was there for Sam and he treated Sam like a son, but Sam truly needed his father in his life.
Sam truly needed to have a son. I had a feeling that Alyssa was going to get pregnant and have a boy, before the news of Alyssa being pregnant in All Through The Night. I've told two of my buddies what I felt and it came to pass.
I'm happy that Sam has Ash. I would love to read more stories about Sam, Alyssa and Ash. I would like to see him have mommy time too. I always thought that their son would be a mommy's boy and I have no doubt that he is, but he's daddy's boy as well.
Arch wrote: "I think that the homeless man kept trying to protect Alyssa. He witnessed the other women getting killed by Mick"
That makes sense, thanks for clearing that up for me!
Alyssa's father is dead. He died when she was young. He died in a car crash and her mother was killed too. Her younger sister Lanora was in the closet, when their mother gotten killed. Alyssa, and her two sisters Lanora and Tyra went live with one of her father's sisters. Lanora died giving birth to her child. Reference (Defiant Hero and Gone Too Far)
I could be wrong, but this is why I think that the homeless man kept trying to protect Alyssa. He witnessed the other women getting killed by Mick and he knew that Mick was the one that threw out Alyssa's picture, so he figured that Alyssa was Mick's next target. He didn't know Sam. For all he knew, Sam could have been Mick. He probably heard Mick talking to himself, stating that he was going to get to know Alyssa and then kill her.
As for Murphy's nickname. I think it was given to him in college. I don't have my book in the front of me. I'll try to check into the nickname sometime the remaining of the week.
Wasn't the homeless man thought to have been Alyssa's long-lost father? Can't remember now...
I remember the nickname thing...but it's been too long--I need to see the book!:)
Hot Pursuit question! Why did the homeless man have Alyssa picture and why was he so psycho about her?
Into the Fire question! (This was one of my favorites, by the way ). Hannah kept calling Vinh a name. I'm assuming its a nickname, but I couldn't find where it started or why she kept calling him that. I think it was "Bwee".
Savannah is Wildcard's wife.
I don't have anything against any of Suzanne's other characters, but I truly only care for Sam, Alyssa, Ash, Dave and Sophia and hopefuly they should have their little one by the next time we hear about them. Marianne.
Side characters. Noah and Claire. I really wish that Suzanne would have Noah and Sam be close as adult. I understand Sam has friends on his jobs and from his old navy seal team, but what about Noah? Noah plays a big important part, in who Sam is today.
I like Jones too. I would like to see him and Sam work together. And since, Dave and Nash are best friends now. I would love to see them two work together as well.
Nash still needs his book. It's time for him to shine as well. He never really shined.
Keri wrote: "I did enjoy reading Tony's story because I remember him from the very end of All Through the Night A Troubleshooter Christmas. Did everyone figure out who his "other" was?..."
I thought it was Adam. Probably not, but I was hoping someone else would occupy Adam's time and leave Jules and Robin alone.
But, to be honest, I'm tired of hearing about them for pages on end. I was some recaps on Stan and Teri, Cosmo and Janie... Mikey and... was is Savannah? I want to know how things are going with them.
Arch wrote: "Oh and I hated how Sam was walking around with a broken rib"
Yeah, I thought she'd eventually go somewhere with that plot. Like when Dave got hurt in Dark of Night and then he got kidnapped?
Honestly if I never hear from Sam and Alyssa it will be too soon. I think they've had their page time and now its time to move on :)
I did enjoy reading Tony's story because I remember him from the very end of All Through the Night A Troubleshooter Christmas. Did everyone figure out who his "other" was?
Yes, in regards to Sam and Alyssa, I've picked that up quickly and I had to talk about it in my review.
People that knows how much I love Sam and talk about him and Alyssa, knew I wasn't feeling Hot Pursuit.
Even the rescue was weak.
Suzanne better not write another Sam and Alyssa book or story, without making them the strong people they have started out.
There's no way that the old Sam would have let Mick beat him up like that.
Oh and I hated how Sam was walking around with a broken rib.
Wow, I'm glad that I'm not the only one who felt like S&A kinda fizzled out there. I hope for better things for them!
Yep, Danny definitely didn't deserve to get Jenni so easily at the end of their book, looking forward to him wooing Jenni properly in the next book!Keri and Arch, I totally agree about the 'different' Sam and Alyssa represented in Hot Pursuit...the S & A magic just didn;t happen for me in this book.
Keri wrote: "I just finished Hot Pursuit. It was not one of her best, I think. My heart broke for poor Izzy. I hope Eden finds happiness in Europe so he can move on with Maria."
I agree Keri, Hot Pursuit wasn't one of Suzanne's best books. Even Sam didn't seem to fit in this story. I honestly don't know where she has gotten this version of Sam from. He didn't appear to be the Sam that I have fallen in love with books ago. Even Alyssa seem different. I hate that Suzanne didn't give her much book time with Ash. Surely, her job can't be more important than her son. I want Sam and Alyssa to both be Ash's parents. Sam works as hard as Alyssa does and sometimes, he's over missions and she has to answer to him, although, she's his boss. I couldn't help but see separation time between those two. Sorry, they are my favorite couple, but Hot Pursuit wasn't really showing their strong love in this book.
I just finished Hot Pursuit. It was not one of her best, I think. My heart broke for poor Izzy. I hope Eden finds happiness in Europe so he can move on with Maria.
Danny got on my nerves. He always wanted to fight Dave.
Even in Hot Pursuit, it showed that the man still had a thing for Sophia. I'm glad that she moved on. He didn't understand what friendship meant. She didn't want a relationship with him.
I'm surprise that Sam didn't beat him up in Hot Pursuit. Sam would have hurt him.
Amar wrote: "...and I didn't really take that seriously anyway, I thought the Decker/Sophia issue was more serious...and then of course, Sophia/Dave."
Yeah, but I want to see what happens with Danny/Jenni. She needs to kick his arse all over the city before she will have anything to do with him. He needs to work for it. Bastage.
...and I didn't really take that seriously anyway, I thought the Decker/Sophia issue was more serious...and then of course, Sophia/Dave.
I believe that Suzanne has written Beth for a reason. She's either going to be Lopez woman or maybe Jazz's woman or a new guy's woman.
I am just happy she wasn't Dave's woman, which, Sophia has been Dave's woman since Flashpoint. The footprint was written on the ground.
I want to read more about Dave. I would love to see him work with Nash, his bestfriend. I would love to see him punch Danny in the face, in he comes at him in a wrong way. But, I guess Danny will move on from Sophia, since she's with Dave now and even though he can't stand Dave.
I love how Dave was with Decker. He wasn't scared of Decker, even though, Decker probably would have hurt him in a fight.
Ok, now I remember Dr. Jo. I wasn't terribly impressed with her character which must be why I forgot all about her.
I knew it was an M name... Maria/Mary
