Oooh - this one looks mighty meaty and would generate a lot of discussion.

1109068 It really was the one of hers that I've most enjoyed reading, Virgin Earth A Novel.

Yes, this fits the theme perfectly!

550517 Devil Water Devil Water by Anya Seton

Based upon actual historical events, the book is a beautifully drawn portrait of early eighteenth century England, as well as the colony of Virginia. Vividly descriptive and replete with the politics and well-known personages of the day, it details the struggle of the Stuart Dynasty to try to regain the throne of England through a number of ill-fated uprisings that were to impact greatly on any number of families, including the prominent Radcliffes. It is a rip-roaring good read and historical fiction at its finest.

196350 **COLONIZATION / EXPANSION / TAKEOVER (WITHIN EUROPEAN ROYALTY)**

***ANY TIME PERIOD, ANY COUNTRY, FICTION OR NON-FICTION***

Okay everyone, it's that time of the month - time to nominate! Anyone who would like to nominate ONE book may do so in this thread.

The theme this month is COLONIZATION / EXPANSION / TAKEOVER (WITHIN EUROPEAN ROYALTY) (any time period, any country, fiction or non-fiction). There's a lot of flexibility here! Anytime some European royal is trying to take land away from someone else will qualify (or when those same people are trying to break away from European royalty rule). Of course there is the British expansion in the 1800s and the European colonization of the Americas (and the fights for independence), but there are also the internal expansions within Europe - the English into Ireland, the Vikings into France, etc.

Please try to check amazon or some other site to make sure the book is easily available - the last thing we want is to nominate some great book that no one can get! If you nominate more than ONE book, only the first book listed will make it into the voting thread (so save additional books for the next months!). Also, if the book doesn't fit the theme, I won't add it to this month's voting list, but I will carry it over to the next theme that it does fit under if you would like.

Feel free to nominate one book of your choice in this thread until July 31st, 9pm Eastern.

At around that time, I'll make a voting poll and list all the nominated books in it, and people can vote in the poll until the poll closes (around end of August 4th). Discussion can start on SEPTEMBER 15th.

Happy Nominating!
